Helen M. Moss
Helen M. Moss, 85, of Medford, died Thursday (May 25, 2000) at her home. No service is planned. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
She was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Great Falls, Mont., a daughter of William George and Cora Virginia (Clapper) Hofeldt.
Mrs. Moss was a hospital housekeeping supervisor in Watsonville, Calif., retiring in 1982. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1982 from Watsonville.
She was a member of the volunteer guild at Providence Medford Medical Center for 15 years. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Central Point.
Mrs. Moss enjoyed crocheting and cross stitch embroidery.
Survivors include a daughter, Cora Dougherty, Medford; four sons, William L. Geers, Oakhurst, Calif., Donald E. Geers, Belton, Texas, James W. Boles, Soquel, Calif., and John L. Boles, Aptos, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford.
Erma Marie Minger
The memorial service for Erma Marie Minger will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Bible Church in Central Point. Pastor Pete Slusher will officiate. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Minger, 82, of Central Point, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at her home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Bible Church, 500 N. 10th St., Central Point, OR 97502.
She was born Erma Rhodes on Aug. 20, 1917, in Philadelphia, Mo.
On Oct. 26, 1943, in Reno, Nev., she married Alton L. Minger, who died in 1987. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Missouri in 1946.
Mrs. Minger was a charter member of Community Bible Church. She was a volunteer at the church and at the Central Point Senior Center.
She enjoyed needlepoint, stitchery and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Alton L. Jr., Central Point; two daughters, Alice Ewing, Klamath Falls and Naomi Miller, Foster, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; and one grandson.

Jean C. Fowler
The memorial service for Jean C. Fowler will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hope United Presbyterian Church in Rogue River.
Mrs. Fowler, 85, a former longtime resident of the Rogue Valley, died March 12, 2000, in Melbourne, Fla.
She was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she lived until she moved to Southern Oregon in 1948.
Mrs. Fowler was a professional secretary. She retired in 1976 from Ashland High School, where she was a teacher and the head of the business department. She moved to Florida in 1997 to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Rowlands, Melbourne, Fla.; two sons, Don, Pattaya, Thailand, and John, Carlsbad, Calif.; and one grandson.

Ruth Marie Thorne
The memorial service for Ruth Marie Thorne will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rogue Valley Manor Chapel. The Rev. Don Hildebrand will officiate. Inurnment will be in Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Thorne 96 of Medford, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at the Rogue Valley Manor Health Care Center in Medford.
She was born Jan. 27, 1904 in La Harpe, Kan., a daughter of William Franklin and Martha Ellen (Williams) Plew. She was educated in Dewey, Okla., and graduated from Dewey High School in 1921. She then attended William Wood College, a school for girls, in Fulton Mo. for two years.
On May 17, 1927, in Bartlesville, Okla., she married Harold Monroe Thorne, who died in 1998. They moved to Boulder, Colo., where Mr. Thorne had been transferred with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines. In Jan. 1930, they transferred to Laramie, Wyo, where they lived for 34 years.
Mrs. Thorne was a secretary for the First National Bank of Dewey, Okla., and Phillips Petroleum Oil Company in Bartlesville, Okla. After her husband’s retirement in 1964, they moved to San Clemente, Calif., where they lived for 19 years. They moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford in 1983.
Mrs. Thorne was an accomplished organist and played for numerous guilds, dinner clubs, church services and social gatherings.
She enjoyed growing flowers and gardens, golf and travel.
Survivors include a son, Gordon H., Henderson, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert "Bob" D. and Charles "Chuck" E.; two sisters, Minnie and Carrie; a brother, Cecil; and two granddaughters.

Calvin ‘Cal’ Kinney
The memorial service for Calvin "Cal" Lawrence Kinney will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass. Pastor Milton Hayes will officiate.
Mr. Kinney, 76, of Grants Pass, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Los Angeles.
On May 17, 1975, in Montecito, Calif., he married Jean O’Shaughnessy, who survives.
Mr. Kinney was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department from 1946 to 1951. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1961 until 1971.
In 1971, he took a job as an air traffic controller with the Fed-eral Aviation Administration, retiring in 1983.
From 1940 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Kinney enjoyed square dancing, golf and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Patrick O’Shaughnessy, Fresno, Calif.; John Edward Reed, Sacramento, Calif.; and Paul Reed, Turlock, Calif.; a daughter, Theresa Lou Pointer, Coos Bay; a sister, Marie Lewis, Fresno, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.

Albert Cox
The memorial service for Albert "LeRoy" Cox, 58, of Eagle Point, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trail Christian Fellowship, Trail. Pastor Chris White, of Trail Christian Fellowship, will officiate.
Mr. Cox died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) at his home.

He was born March 18, 1942, in Redding, Calif.
On July 8, 1985, in Lovelock, Nev., he married Ronelle Huff-man, who survives.
Mr. Cox lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life. In the mid-1970s, he founded and owned Cas-cade Meat Co. in White City. He later worked for Boise Cascade for 21 years. He also was a taxidermist and owned and operated Bitter Lick Creek Taxidermy at his home.
A member of the Oregon Hunters Association and the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Diane LeRae Bullard, Eagle Point; two step-daughters, Kristi VanDuker, Trail, and Kara Anselmi, Shady Cove; a stepson Kenneth Stinson, Central Point; two sisters, Thelma Ross, Eagle Point, and Jackie Hard-grave, Central Point; and eight grandchildren.

Jayne Reed
The funeral for Jayne Reed will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, Medford.
Mrs. Reed, 83, of Springfield, died Friday (May 26, 2000) in Springfield. She was a Rogue Valley resident for more than 40 years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 804 Bennett St., Medford, OR 97504.
Mrs. Reed was born May 10, 1917. On June 30, 1933, she married James Rivers Reed.
She moved to the Rogue Valley from Southern California in 1953 and lived in Shady Cove and Medford. She lived in the California cities of Fontana and Rialto from 1997 to 1998, when she moved to Springfield.
Mrs. Reed worked as a nurse’s aide. She was an active school volunteer and a leader of Bluebird and Camp Fire groups. She enjoyed music and singing.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Henderson of Fontana, Calif., and Tonielle Larsen of Veneta; two brothers, Elvin V. Vestal of Winter Park, Fla., and Paul Vestal of Bakersfield, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two daughters: Anita Izella Reed Henderson and Emma Ruth Reed.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Road, Medford.
