Richard ‘Dick’ Joss
The memorial service for Richard "Dick" Joss will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ashland Elks Lodge.
Mr. Joss, 61, of Ashland, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Queens, N.Y., a son of Emil and Elizabeth (Hanna) Joss.
On July 4, 1959, in New York, he married Gail Kauer. They moved to Ashland in 1971. They later divorced.
In 1990, he married Jacklyn Wagner. They later divorced
Mr. Joss was an automobile mechanic. He owned and operated Siskiyou Service Auto Repair.
He was a member of the Ashland Elks Lodge and served as the exalted ruler in 1986. He was a also a member of the Rogue Valley Street Rods and the Rogue Valley Chevy Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Kidney, Gardnerville, Nev.; a son, Allan, Milwaukee; a brother, Phillip, Stoney Point, N.Y.; a sister, June Anderson, Miller Place, N.Y.; six grandchildren; his former wife, Gail Joss, Ashland; and his former wife, Jacklyn Wagner, Medford. He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Sean, in 1994.

Stanley Alfred Rhoades
The memorial service for Stanley Alfred Rhoades will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Moose Lodge No. 178, 226 Ross Lane N., Medford. The Rev. Jeanane Fournier of the Rogue Valley Church of Religious Science in Medford will officiate.
Mr. Rhoades, 74, of Medford, died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at Hearthstone.

He was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Falls City, a son of Jody and Velma (Goodspeed) Rhoades.
On July 11, 1987, in Medford, he married Dorothy Hilts, who died in 1995. He lived in the Dallas, Ore., area until he moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971.
Mr. Rhoades served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1962, during World War II and the Vietnam War. He was active in the reserves for more than 20 years. He also worked as a millworker and as a custodian for the Moose Lodge.
He was an active member of Moose Lodge No. 178 in Medford, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Rhoades enjoyed writing letters to the editor.
Survivors include a son, Keith L.; several stepsons; a brother, Wynne A., Lebanon; a sister, Carole C. Stohr, Portland; and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Sullinger; a brother, Wesley L.; and two sisters, Gillesi A. Henry, and Louise D. Laqua.

Kathleen Dallas
The memorial service for Kathleen Dallas will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Dallas, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Kathleen Wilcomb on Aug. 30, 1911, in Twin Bridges, Mont.
On Sept. 6, 1936, in Shoshone, Idaho, she married Vernon Dallas, who died in 1979. She lived in Salem from 1954 to 1961, when she moved to the Rogue Valley.
Mrs. Dallas was a member of the St. Ann’s Altar Society.
She enjoyed her family, playing cards, crocheting and knitting and cooking.
Survivors include five daughters, Jeani Everett, Medford, Dolores Baumann, Keizer, Ann Thomas, Dallas, Ore., Janet Kranz, Sauk Centre, Minn, and Deborah Albert, Bellevue, Neb.; two sons, Tom, Eagle Point, and John, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a brother, Richard Wilcomb, Boise, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Verlin Estelle Durham
Verlin Estelle Durham, 89, of Medford, died Thursday (June 8, 2000) in Medford. The memorial service will be held later.

She was born Verlin Estelle McNatt on Feb. 27, 1911, in Arkansas.
On Jan. 11, 1932, in Safford, Ariz., she married Cornelius T. Durham, who died in 1999. She lived in Brawley, Calif. from 1954 to 1977 and in Bisbee, Ariz., from 1977 to 1990. She moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago.
In Brawley, Calif., Mrs. Durham taught handicapped students and drove a school bus.
She enjoyed arts and crafts and flowers.
Survivors include two daughters, Lelia Anita Babb, Medford, and Verlin Laneal Cullum, Central Point; a sister, Minnie Reson, Sweet Home; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ethel Whittaker
The memorial reception for Ethel Whittaker will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Whittaker, 84, of Medford, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at her home.

She was born on March 10, 1916, in Everett, Mass.
On April 20, 1943, in Denver, she married Harry C. Whittaker, who died in 1993.
Mrs. Whittaker was the office manager for Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, Calif., retiring in 1980. She moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from San Rafael.
She was a former board member of Dogs for the Deaf in Central Point.
Survivors include a son, Bruce, Eagle Point; and one grandchild.

Delmer Gene Maloy
The memorial service for Delmer Gene Maloy will be at 1 p.m. on June 24 at No. 3 Ulrich Road in Prospect. Dorlan Woods will officiate.
Mr. Maloy, 59, of John Day, died May 25, 2000, in John Day.
He was born July 16, 1940, in Grants Pass, a son of Melvin and Vivian Maloy. He grew up in Prospect.
On Dec. 20, 1962, in Reno, Nev., he married Sharon Owens, who survives.
Mr. Maloy enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Russel; a daughter, Terry Maloy; a brother, Lee; two sisters, Mona Bishop and Marjorie Fairbanks; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Walter J. Young
Walter J. Young, 84, of Medford and Smith River, Calif., died June 2, 2000, at his home in Smith River. A memorial service and Mass will be held later.

He was born July 23, 1915, in Canada, a son of James and Clara (Arnold) Young. He was a graduate of Medford High School and Santa Clara University in California.
Mr. Young owned and operated Walt Young’s Medford Stationery for more than 35 years. It burned down in 1968.
During his years in Medford, he was responsible for many civic and public improvement projects, including the completion of Highland Drive to Barnett Road and the development of Vogel Park, where his stationery store was located before it burned. He was also responsible for the founding of Blue Bird Park on his property in Ashland Plaza.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, Smith River; two sons, Perry and David, both Medford; a daughter, Janet Dexter, Smith River; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James.
