Sharon Gruver Kern

Sharon Gruver Kern, 56, of Central Point, died Saturday (June 3, 2000) at her home. A private service was held.

She was born Sept. 18, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, a daughter of Susan Gruver. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Anchorage, Alaska. She lived in Rogue River from 1994 to 1995, before moving to Central Point.

Ms. Kern worked as an electronics technician for Litton Industries in Grants Pass.

She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Ms. Kern enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, collecting bells, playing bingo, and electronics.

Survivors include five sons, Randy Bynum, Gene Harpold, Brion Harpold, Jackson Kern Jr. and Jim Kern; six daughters, Sheryl Dawn Kern, Jackie Gibbons, Suzy Kuhl, Becky Kern, Cherianne Kern and Kimberlee Kern; a brother, Mike Hunter; a sister, Dixie Morgan; and 19 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Richard Leonard Wilson

The graveside service for Richard Leonard Wilson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.

Mr. Wilson, 73, of Talent, died Sunday (June 4, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 30, 1927, in Uniontown, Kan., a son of Leonard and Iola May Wilson. He attended Oregon State University for four years, majoring in forestry.

In 1949, in Oregon, he married Edie Vollsted. They later divorced.

On Feb. 10, 1968, in Carson City, Nev., he married DeEtta Gray who survives.

Mr. Wilson was a self-employed truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Wilson was an avid reader, sports enthusiast and OSU Beaver fan. He enjoyed fishing, travel and his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, David Wilson, Portland; three daughters, Susan Fowles, Bend, Vicky Curry, Creswell, and Leslie Cogswell, Hood River; two stepsons, Gerald Knapp, Medford, and Charles Knapp, Reno, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Rose Marie Sandoval, Klamath Falls; his father, Leonard Wilson, Corvallis; a brother, Ken, Tillamook; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Winford William Bailey

Winford William Bailey, 83, of White City, died Sunday (June 4, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

He was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Aguilar, Colo., a son of William and Cora Bailey.

On Sept. 24, 1939, in Arizona, he married Anita P. Love, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Southern California in 1944.

Mr. Bailey worked for Valley Fuel Company and Naumes Fuel Company, retiring in 1979.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five sons, David, James and Rodney, all of Medford, Cecil, Butte Falls, and Raymond, Dundee; four daughters, Cecelia Daly, Linda Garrison and Judith Selby, all Central Point, and Susan Orikama, of Japan; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Cardon, in 1973; and seven brothers and sisters.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Carolyne G. Wynne

The memorial service for Carolyne G. Wynne will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wynne, 65, of Medford, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Youth Diabetes Association, 6915 S.W. Macadam, Suite 130, Portland, OR 97219.

She was born March 27, 1935, in Philadelphia, a daughter of David and Helyne Archer.

On July 17, 1957, in Lawton, Okla., she married Thomas Wynne, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 from Union City, Calif.

Mrs. Wynne was a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club and Bethel Church.

She enjoyed gardening, golfing, arts and crafts.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Thomas Jr., Union City, Calif.; a daughter, Laura K. Wynne, San Jose, Calif.; her parents, David and Helyne Archer, Sarasota, Fla.; and a brother, Lawrence H. Archer, Sarasota, Fla.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

John Henry Jeffers

The graveside service for John Henry Jeffers will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. The American Legion Honor Guard of Grants Pass will officiate.

Mr. Jeffers, 87, of Ashland, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1912, in New Hope, Ark.

On Dec. 20, 1932, in Nashville, Ark., he married Lois I. Balch, who died in 1985. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Arkansas.

Mr. Jeffers worked for several mills in the Rogue Valley, retiring from MEDCO in 1972.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Jeffers was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, John L., Medford, Bill D., Ashland, and Dale E., West Memphis, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Edna O. Benham

The memorial service for Edna O. Benham will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.

Mrs. Benham, 85, formerly of Talent, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) in Gilroy, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Roff, Okla., a daughter of Charles and Eva Aldridge.

On June 17, 1934, in Antlers, Okla., she married Edgar W. Benham, who died in 1986. She lived in the Rogue Valley from 1964 to 1996, when she moved to Gilroy, Calif.

Mrs. Benham enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include five daughters, Lawanna Church, Central Point, Becky Wright, Roseburg, Jane Hill, Turlock, Calif., Joan Bender, Gilroy, Calif., and Ellen Putman, Kalispell, Mont.; a son, Duane, Lake Fork, Idaho; a sister, Charlene Dockery, Coquille; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Chestene M. Coghlan

The graveside service for Chestene M. Coghlan will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Earl Best of Jacksonville will officiate.

Mrs. Coghlan, 77, of Medford, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born May 27, 1923, in Monticello, Ark., a daughter of L. Z. and Lillian Davis Cline.

On May 23, 1942, in Yerington, Nev., she married John A. Coghlan Sr., who survives. She moved to Oregon in 1945.

Mrs. Coghlan was a career military wife.

During World War II, she worked as a welder at Kaiser Steel in California.

Mrs. Coghlan enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts and her family.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, John Avery Jr., Portland; three brothers, Chester Earl Cline, Vida, Jerry Lee Cline, Goshen, and Carl Lloyd Cline, Pahrump, Nev. She was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Ray Cline.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
