James George Kelly
James George Kelly, 74, of Rogue River, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at his home.
A celebration of his life will be held July 8 at Rogue River Assembly of God. Pastors Dan and George Wilson will officiate.

Mr. Kelly was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Portland. He lived in Southern Oregon 35 years, moving from Portland.
On Sept. 25, 1989, in White City, he married Elizabeth Loftin, who survives.
Mr. Kelly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked for nine years at Techtronics Corp. in Portland, and for 20 years at 3-M Corporation in White City before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Kelly was a member of the Rogue River Assembly of God and the Rogue Valley Medical Center Better Breathers.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and off-roading in the Siskiyous. He was involved in dirt track racing for many years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Troy Kelly, Beaverton, and Jeffrey Sweet, Gresham; an adopted son, Dave Duste, Medford; a sister, Bea Kirsey, Portland; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kolleen Kay Kelly, in 1988.

Lillie Kephart
Lillie Kephart, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (June 15, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
She was born Lillie McNeny on March 4, 1920, in El Paso, Texas. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1980, moving from Southern California.
On Dec. 18, 1937, in California, she married Dennis Kephart, who survives.
Mrs. Kephart had a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. She also enjoyed square dancing and clogging.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Dennis B., Fort Worth, Texas, and Steven W., Central Point; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Tyler Raven Abel
The memorial service for Tyler Raven Abel will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Congregational Church.
Mr. Abel, 21, of Ashland, died Tuesday (June 13, 2000) at his home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1979, in the Colestin Valley, a son of Donald Abel and Ruth Coulthard. He was a lifelong Ashland resident.
Mr. Abel worked at Blue Mountain Cafe as a busboy.
He was a free-thinker, a vegan and nonviolent anarchist, with respect for animals, nature and the community. His community activities included active participation in logging protests, traveling to Guatemala to help build a recycling center, and working as a member of Pax Panis, baking and distributing free bread.
Mr. Abel enjoyed his friends, books and listening to others.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Coulthard; his father, Donald Abel; and two sisters, Zoe and Marley Abel.

William Blackmer
The memorial service for William Blackmer will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mr. Blackmer, 75, of Medford, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at his home.
He was born July 14, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a son of William and Catherine Blackmer.
On Dec. 9, 1943, in Medford, he married Roseangela Sander, who survives.
Mr. Blackmer was the marketing manager and store director for Montgomery Wards, and the store director for Mervyn’s in different stores across the United States. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Mesa, Ariz.
He served with the U.S. Marines Intelligence during World War II.
Mr. Blackmer belonged to the Senior Aces computer club.
He enjoyed computers, fishing and photography.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, William Patrick, Pittsburgh, and Robert Timothy, Las Vegas; his mother, Catherine Henry, Oak Harbor, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Austin Edward Caldwell
The funeral for Austin Edward Caldwell will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice, and Roy Ellis will officiate. Private interment will be in Phoenix Cemetery.
Mr. Caldwell, 85, of Central Point, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at his home.

He was born May 12, 1915, in Chandler, Okla., a son of Royal Alfred and Arletta Blanche (Barnes) Caldwell.
On July 12, 1942, in Phoenix, he married Phyllis A. Wier, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1942 from Oklahoma.
Mr. Caldwell was a carpenter. He worked for several building contractors in the Medford area.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Mortain, and received the Purple Heart Award for an injury in Belgium.
Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Carpenters Union. He participated in the Cub Scouts, PTA and the Westside Rabbiteers 4-H Club.
He enjoyed woodworking and listening to Paul Harvey.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jimmy Lee, Medford; a brother; Herbert, Edmond, Okla.; three sisters, Dorothy Walker, Oklahoma City, Bessie Davis, Tulsa, Okla.; and Alice Phelps, Edmond, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point.

Fred O. Samples
The funeral for Fred O. Samples will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Central Valley Chapel in Central Point. Pastor Mark Burton of Medford Friends Church will officiate.
Mr. Samples, 73, of Central Point, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Buffalo, Wyo. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950 from Kinzua.
On June 29, 1951, in Kinzua, he married Dixie L. Woods, who survives.
Mr. Samples was a cat skinner, retiring in 1985.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Samples was a past president of the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Courd A., Albany, and Steven R., Puyallup, Wash.; a daughter, DeLane L. Kell, Sams Valley; three brothers, John, Merlin, Leonard, Joseph, Ore., and Tommy, Powell, Wyo.; three sisters, Darlene Green, Central Point, Pearl Hurd, Edgewater, Wash., and Betty Ecker, Sumner, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
