Patrick R. Valdez
Patrick R. Valdez, 93, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 20, 2000) at Hearthstone. A private service was held in El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.

He was born Patrick Raymond Valdez on March 17, 1907, in Marino Valley, Calif.
Mr. Valdez was a buffer for North Island Naval Shipyards for more than 30 years. He lived in the San Diego area most of his life. He moved to the Rogue Valley from San Diego in June 1998.
He enjoyed golf, horse races and Las Vegas.
Survivors include a daughter, Violet Geiser, Medford; two half-brothers, Frank and James Hahn, both San Diego; a sister, Sarah Greenleaf, San Diego; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son; and by his companion of more than 50 years, Noni Sieck.

Phyllis Burnette
A celebration of the life of Phyllis Burnette will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Applegate Community Church. Pastor Jason Burns will officiate.
Mrs. Burnette, 83, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (June 20, 2000) at Hearthstone.

She was born Felicia Corina Beccaris on July 8, 1916, in Connecticut. She was valedictorian of her high school class in New York. When she was young, she worked as a waitress at Stouffers in New York for 5 cents an hour. She moved to California from New York.
In 1952, in Yuma, Ariz., she married John Houston Burnette, who survives.
Mrs. Burnette was a waitress. She worked for the California Hotel in San Bernardino, Calif., for 10 years, and at Skinners in San Bernardino for 18 years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from San Bernardino.
She was an active member of the Applegate Community Church and the Ladies Outreach Club in the Applegate area.
Mrs. Burnette enjoyed gardening and cooking and was an avid Lakers fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Rodriguez Krouse, Grant Pass; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, in 1918; and a great-granddaughter, in 1989.

Norven R. Furry
Norven Robert Furry, 81, of Central Point, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born March 28, 1919, in Phoenix, a son of Frederick and Josephine Furry. He is a descendent of Rogue Valley pioneers.
On Nov. 14, 1942, in Phoenix, he married Bonnie Darlene Morris of Ashland, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Furry worked for Arden Farms Co. for 36 years.
He enjoyed his family’s Southern Oregon heritage and he worked to help preserve Rogue Valley history.
Mr. Furry enjoyed hunting and fishing. The preservation of Rogue Valley resources was also very important to him.
Survivors include a son, Robert G., Central Point; a brother, Leo M., Bend; and three grandchildren.

Edith Anna Biles
The visitation and gathering for Edith Anna Biles will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rock Point Cemetery in Gold Hill.
Mrs. Biles, 85, of Grants Pass, died Friday (June 16, 2000) at her home.

She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Gold Hill. She attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Gold Hill.
On Oct. 9, 1933, in Medford, she married Raymond Biles, who preceded her in death. In 1948, she and her husband cut the lumber and built their home in Grants Pass, where she had lived ever since.
Mrs. Biles initiated and organized the original Josephine County Fair flower show and exhibits. She won awards for many of her entries in the fair, including leather, canned goods and flower arrangements. She was also an Oregon state champion archer.
She was active in the Grants Pass Garden Club and the Shan Creek Grange.
Survivors include a son, Mitchill, Grants Pass; a daughter, Lucille Salmela, Portland; a brother, Raymond Dusenberry, Grants Pass; a sister, Ida Tilley, Gold Hill; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Jones
The graveside service for Robert Leonard Jones will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Jones, 77, of Everett, Wash., formerly of Central Point, died June 13, 2000, in Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Jones, and a daughter, Annette Austin, both of Everett.

Ralph Perley Ward
Family and friends of Ralph Perley Ward will gather at 5 p.m. Saturday at 1120 Niantic St., Medford.
Mr. Ward, 67, of Medford, died Saturday (June 17, 2000) at his home.

He was born March 28, 1933, in Boston, a son of Perley V. and Mary Etta (MacNeil) Ward.
On June 20, 1958, in Seabrook, N.H., he married Cindy Poole, who survives.
Mr. Ward was a carpenter in the construction industry. He moved to Oregon in 1990.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Barry, Klamath Falls, and Mark, Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Tami L. Kanas, Auburn, Calif.; a brother, Paul, Klamath Falls; two sisters, Doris Mattos, in Hawaii, and Ruth Matson, in Massachusetts; and three grandchildren.

Marion Cyril Johansen
The graveside service for Marion Cyril Johansen will be at 2 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Medford Medical Center Hospice will officiate.
Mr. Johansen, 80, of Medford, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at his home.

He was born April 17, 1920, in Greeley County, Neb.
On Dec. 13, 1942, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married Elaine Bogart, who survives.
Mr. Johansen worked for Diamond National Lumber in Red Bluff, Calif., during the late 1950s. He also worked as the business manager for the school districts of Castro Valley, Petaluma and Salinas, Calif., until his retirement in 1983. He moved to the Rogue Valley 14 years ago from Salinas.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Johansen was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Barbara Johansen Haden, Berkeley, Calif.; two sons, Steven Marion, Portland, and Dennis Lee, Santa Cruz, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Elaine Johansen, in 1945.
