Patrick F. Hawthorne
Patrick Frank Hawthorne, 49, of Medford, died Thursday (June 22, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private family memorial service will be held .

Mr. Hawthorne was born March 17, 1951, in San Francisco. He moved to the Rogue Valley 22 years ago from California.
On Oct. 9, 1979, in Reno, he married Patsy Vega, who survives.
He graduated from Eugene Diesel Training School in 1990.
He worked as a millworker and truck driver in the lumber industry.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Jessica Hawthorne, Medford, and Kimberly Hawthorne, Magalia, Calif.; three sons, Mike, Chico, Calif., Jimmy, Cloverdale, Calif., and Gary, Los Angeles; a sister, Marsha Gardner, Chico, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pearl P. Wagoner
A graveside memorial service for Pearl Pauline Wagoner will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn will officiate.
Mrs. Wagoner, 87, of Medford, died Thursday (June 22, 2000) at her home.

She was born Pearl Pauline Schmidt on Oct. 14, 1912, in Enid, Okla., a daughter of Henry and Pauline (Betz) Schmidt.
On Sept. 9, 1939, in Lakewood, Calif., she married William "Bill" Wagoner, who survives.
Mrs. Wagoner attended two years of college.
She worked as an Escrow Officer for Crater Title Insurance.
Mrs. Wagoner was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, PTA and the YMCA.
She was a member of Altrusa International, California Escrow Association, a past matron of Chispa Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Women’s Council of Medford Realty Board and a member of Medford Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was on the Mother’s Council of DeMolay, Job’s Daughters and Rainbow Girls.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two sons, Richard H. and Gary S., both of Gold Hill. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott, in 1971.

Richard W. Bryant
Richard W. Bryant, 82, of Ashland, died Thursday (June 22, 2000) at Faith Adult Foster Home, Ashland. A private service is planned.
He was born Feb. 7, 1918, in Boston, a son of Harold and Alice Bryant. He moved to Ashland from Carson, Calif., in 1999.
Mr. Bryant was a minister for the Congregational Church in Fullerton, Calif.
He enjoyed stamp collecting, working in the yard and working on his car.
Survivors include two sons, David, Ashland, and Richard, Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara Gorski, Branford, Conn., and Kelly Glass, Riverside, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Verneita Atterbury
A private service will be held for Verneita Atterbury, 86, of Medford. She died Friday (June 23, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Atterbury was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Roseburg, to James and Mary Pickens.
On Dec. 3, 1932, in Roseburg, she married Elmo P. Atterbury, who died Aug. 18, 1970.
The couple moved to the Rogue Valley from Roseburg in 1940.
Mrs. Atterbury was a homemaker. Her hobbies included pinochle and crochet. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Lady Lions, Knife and Fork Club and a local bowling league.
Survivors include: a son, Richard Elmo Atterbury, Running Y; three daughters, Colleen Frances Schneider, Sharon Louise Christlieb and Mary Ellen Plankenhorn, all of Medford; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one great-grandchild.

Betty F. Baldwin
Memorial service for Betty Frances Baldwin, 54, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hearthstone Manor.
Mrs. Baldwin, a certified nurse’s assistant at Hearthstone, died Wednesday (June 21, 2000) at her Medford home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1946, in San Diego, Calif.
She moved to the Rogue Valley from California in 1996.
Mrs. Baldwin enjoyed her work, and she enjoyed roller skating, bowling and dancing.
Survivors include: one daughter, Cynthia Burden, Tennessee; two sons, Anthony Amicay, Medford, and Robert Baldwin, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; one sister Evelyn Gonzalas, Orange County, Calif.; two brothers, John Bruns, Moreno Valley, Calif., and Lani Machado, Tustin, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.

Richard R. Laird
The graveside memorial service for Richard R. Laird will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Laird, 63, of Talent, died Thursday (June 22, 2000) at the Veterans Affairs Roseburg Healthcare System.
He was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Denver, a son of Ralph and Alice Laird.
Mr. Laird worked as a casino chef in Reno and moved to Talent in 1993, where he worked as a cook at the Talent Truck Stop.
From 1955 to 1957, he served in the U.S. Army .
Survivors include a son, Richard Whiteford, and a daughter, Rhonda Armstrong, both of California; and a sister Marcia Taylor, Talent.
A sister, Joan Hermanson, died in 1999.

Robert C. Gilbert
Robert C. Gilbert, 74, of Dewey, Ariz., formerly of Medford, died June 11, 2000 in Dewey. A memorial service was held at the family home.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1925 in San Diego, a son of Robert S. and Mignon (Crepin) Gilbert.
In 1991, in Las Vegas, he married Claire, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley from the late 1950’s until 1981, when he moved to Hawaii.
He attended Porterville City College, Pasadena City College, the University of Southern California, Northrop Aeronautical Institute and the University of California at Davis.
Mr. Gilbert owned and operated several businesses in Jackson and Josephine counties. He was a general contractor and also served as sheriff in the Reno, Nev., area.
He moved to Dewey six years ago, where he and his wife owned and operated Gilbert Realty.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a past member of the Associated General Contractors of America, and a member of SCORE, serving as district representative for that organization in the Honolulu district.
Mr. Gilbert had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Gabe, in Oregon; two stepsons, Jerry and Alan Freidinger, both of Kapaa, Hawaii; and two grandchildren.
