Archie V. McKillop
The memorial service for Archie V. McKillop will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Prospect. The Rev. Jack Brown will officiate.
Mr. McKillop, 83, of Prospect, died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at his daughter’s home in Woodburn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 431-A Red Blanket Road, Prospect, OR 97536, or to a favorite charity.
He was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Redding, Calif., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1938.
On March 25, 1938, in Klamath Falls, he married Georgia Alice Conger, who died in 1993.
Mr. McKillop was a mill sawyer.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, river guiding and skiing. He met his wife while working as a ski instructor at Mount Shasta.
He also was a member of the Prospect Historical Society.
Survivors include a son, Kim Mack McKillop, Bend; two daughters, Sally Chapel, Woodburn, and Suzan Namitz, Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Frederick Snyder
Frederick Snyder, 89, of Medford, died Sunday (June 25, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
He was born May 15, 1911, in Brooklyn, New York.
On Sept. 10, 1944, in Warham, Mass., he married Margaret Mary Doyle, who died last year. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Snyder was an automotive specialist who enjoyed reading, gardening, music and singing.
Survivors include a sister, Ann MacQueen, Arlington, VA.

Anna Kludt Harper
The graveside service for Anna Kludt Harper will be at 5 p.m. today at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Meford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraff will officiate.
Mrs. Harper, 84, of Medford, died Friday (June 30, 2000) at her home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Medford High School Band, 815 S. Oakdale, Medford, OR 97501.
She was born Jan. 5, 1916, in Virgil, S.D., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936.
On Oct. 4, 1938, she married H.J. Harper, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Harper was co-owner and operator of Harper Meat Co.
Survivors include a son, Lonnie D. Harper, Medford; two daughters, Judy Jewell Crowe, Applegate, and Jacqueline Claire Taylor, Medford; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Marcella Mae Richards
Marcella Mae Richards, 77, of Ashland, died June 23, 2000, in Ashland. No service is planned.
She was born July 5, 1922, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, a daughter of Allan O. and Bergetta G. Knudson.
On Feb. 17, 1940, in Bethany, Mo., she married Keith V. Richards, who died in 1986. She moved to Ashland in 1999 from Oakland.
Mrs. Richards was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Carole A. Richards, Ashland, Linda M. Hayes, Auburn, Calif., and Sharyn L. Porter, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a son, Larry, Redwood City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Stan and Ray Knudson.

Marguerite Rice
Marguerite Rice, 82, of White City, died Friday (June 30, 2000) at her home. Inurnment will be at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Honolulu. On April 12, 1946, in Honolulu, she married Richard P. Rice, who died in 1968.
She worked as an administrative assistant in Honolulu and enjoyed all sports.
Survivors include a brother, James L. Mara, San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Mike Smith
Mike J. "Smitty" Smith, 39, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (June 29, 2000) in Eagle Point. A private service will be held at a later date.
He was born March 21, 1961, in Berkeley, Calif., and lived in the Rogue Valley for 21 years. He attended school in Butte Falls.
Mr. Smith was a sound technician for the band The Regulators, and also worked as a slasher in the logging industry, and as a caretaker.
Survivors include his parents, Jim D. and Merline L. Smith, Eagle Point; and two sisters, Stephanie Smith, Eagle Point, and Valerie Statler, Port O’Connor, Texas.
Yaeko Mayeda
The memorial service for Yaeko Mayeda will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Park View Funeral Home & Cemetery Chapel in Manteca, Calif. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery.
Mrs. Mayeda, 96, of Medford, died Wednesday (June 28, 2000) at her home.
She was born April 24, 1904, in Papaaloa, Hawaii.
In 1920, in Fresno, Calif., she married Sy Saihachi Mayeda, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley seven years ago from Stockton, Calif.
Mrs. Mayeda was very artistic. She did "quilling, " a form of Japanese art. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include six sons, Richard K., Medford, Thomas H., Stanley M., and Victor J., all of Stockton, Fred M., San Pablo, Calif., and Joel T., Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Alice S. Shingu, Stockton, Marian N. Fong, San Francisco, and Colleen Y. Yamada, Reno, Nev.; a brother, Susumu Emori, Ruch; two sisters, Haruko Ogata, Tokyo, and Kimi Emori, Kumamoto, Japan; and 28 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy K.

Richard ‘Dick’ A. James
The memorial service for Richard Alwin "Dick" James will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the All-Sports Park Wall of Fame in Grants Pass. The Rev. Dick Johnson of Sunny Valley Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Mr. James, 66, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (June 28, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Special Olympics, 290 N.E. C St., Grants Pass, OR 97526, or to the American Cancer Society, Josephine County, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.
He was born May 22, 1934, in Grants Pass and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1952. He attended the University of Oregon from 1953 to 1955.
On July 7, 1977, in Reno, Nev., he married Jeanne Koffel, who survives.
Mr. James played professional football as a running back and kick/punt returner for 10 years. His professional career began in 1955 with the Washington Redskins. From 1963 to 1964, he played for the New York Giants, and from 1964 to 1965 for the Minnesota Vikings.
He later worked as a television and radio sports announcer for the Navy football team in Annapolis, Md., aand s a stockbroker for the New York Stock Exchange. He also sold life, health and auto insurance. Before his retirement, he also coached baseball and football at Rogue River High School from 1979 to 1983.
Mr. James was a member of the National Football League Alumni Association and Southern Oregon Special Olympics, and played softball on a city league team.
He enjoyed golf, basketball, racquetball and tennis.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, John M. James, Merlin, Denny James, Grants Pass, John L. James, San Diego, Patrick James, Vancouver, Wash., Richard Paulding, in Pennsylvania, and Eddie Paulding, Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Debbie Hagner, Portland, and Colleen Eye, Richmond, Va.; four brothers, Ernie, Grants Pass, Doug, Canyonville, Don, Macon, Ga., and Bobby, Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Kevin James, died in 1960; and a daughter, Katherine James, died in 1963.
