Simon Samuel Kelley
The graveside service for Simon Samuel Kelley will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Grants Pass.
Mr. Kelley, 75, of White City, died Tuesday (July 11, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Jasper, Ark., one of nine children.
In November 1947, in Arkansas, he married Wilma Mae Baskin, who survives. He moved to Grants Pass in 1954, and to White City five years ago.
Mr. Kelley retired from plywood mill work in 1987, after working for Miller Redwood, Bates and Fiberboard for many years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was awarded four Bronze Stars for his participation in the campaigns in Luzon, South Philippines, New Guinea and the Bismarck archipelago.
Mr. Kelley enjoyed CB radio, fishing and hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Joel, Anderson, Calif.; a daughter, Yvonne Martin, Salem; three brothers; three sisters; and grandchildren. Two brothers, Ray and Lovern, preceded him in death.

‘Fred’ Andrew Gascon
Frederick "Fred" Andrew Gascon, 96, of Central Point, died Wednesday (July 12, 2000) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Feb. 8, 1904, in Rochester, N.Y., a son of Napolean and Anna (Bauman) Gascon. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Rochester, N.Y.
Mr. Gascon worked at a dairy in the pasteurizing process. He also worked in construction.
He was a member of Local Labor Union No. 1400.
Mr. Gascon was an avid hunter, fisherman and shooter and ran the first powered ice saw on Lake Ontario.
Survivors include three sons, Roger, Gold Hill, Charles "Skip, " Central Point, and Frederick E., Palm Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Charles R. ‘Red’ Bruce
A celebration of the life of Charles R. "Red" Bruce will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCann’s Paint and Body Shop in Central Point.
Mr. Bruce, 80, of Cave Junction, formerly of Central Point, died Tuesday (July 11, 2000) in Cave Junction.
He was born April 28, 1920, in Rockford, Ill. He graduated from Burbank High School in Burbank, Calif. in 1939.
Mr. Bruce was a mining caretaker.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Bruce enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two brothers, Frank G., Medford, and Norman R., Central Point; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne; a brother, John A.; and a sister, Elizabeth A. Smith.

Janet R. ‘Missy’ Gundry
Janet R. "Missy" Gundry, 64, of Cornelius, formerly of Medford, died Friday (July 7, 2000) at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. A private service was held.

She was born Aug. 1, 1935, in Gladwyne, Pa., a daughter of John and Barbara (Frantz) Russell. She was raised and educated in Gladwyne and graduated with honors from the Shipley School in 1953. She later attended Smith College and Bryn Mawr College.
On July 27, 1963, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., she married Richard K. Gundy, who survives. They lived in Cambridge, Mass., until 1964, when they moved to Portland. They then moved to Baltimore and returned to Oregon in 1972, first to Medford for eight years and then to Cornelius.
Mrs. Gundry was a homemaker.
She was a dog trainer and won many dog obedience titles, including the most difficult, "Utility Dog, " in 1992. Her home was a haven for cats, horses, sheep and dogs, especially Labradors.
Mrs. Gundry enjoyed her gardens, flower arranging, illustrating letters to her children and grandchildren and collecting children’s literature.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Barbara G. Jacobberger, Medford, and Alison G. Thurman, Seattle; two sons, Dr. Cooper R., Minneapolis, and Dr. John W., Eugene; a brother, Angus Russell, Norwich, Vt.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Russell Jr.; and a sister, Mary Katherine Barnes.

Etta D. Watson Cook
The graveside service for Etta Delores Watson Cook will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland.
Mrs. Cook, 75, of Talent, died Sunday (July 9, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.
She was born June 10, 1925, in Cottage Grove, a daughter of Ransom Roy and Anna Jeano (Wagoner) Raymond. She attended schools in Oregon and Washington and moved to Medford in 1946.
On Dec. 19, 1947, in Medford, she married Earl Everett "Bud" Watson, who died in 1968.
On March 11, 1972, in Phoenix, she married Charles James "Jim" Cook, who survives.
Mrs. Cook volunteered at the Talent Fire Department.
She was a member of the Talent Lions Club.
Mrs. Cook enjoyed gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Clarence "Ted" Clark Watson, Talent; two daughters, Tamara Milanovich, Phoenix, and Pamela Guy, Talent; two stepdaughters, Susan Stevens, Roseburg, and Rhonda Benedict, Phoenix; two brothers, Howard Raymond, Cottage Grove, and Loren Raymond, Springfield; two sisters, Lila Lilja and Uleta Marsh, both Cottage Grove; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and twin sisters.

John J. Birmingham
The memorial Mass for John Joseph Birmingham will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The Rev. Carmello Mifsud of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville will officiate. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Birmingham, 81, of Medford, died Monday (July 10, 2000) at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Bisbee, Ariz., a son of John Patrick and Gertrude Mary (Rogan) Birmingham.
On Aug. 8, 1970, in Las Vegas, he married Sylvia Mary Steward, who survives.
Mr. Birmingham worked for Southern California Gas Co. in Los Angeles from 1939-1957; for McIntosh Electric from 1957-1969; and for Dave Burton Security Doors from 1969 until his retirement in 1980. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from Los Angeles.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Birmingham was a member of the Catholic church.
He enjoyed gardening, his home and his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Pattie Jones, Medford, Joyce Hayford, Jacksonville, Karen Snow, Talent, Janice Anderson, Portland, and Susan Klockzien, Lakewood, Calif.; two sisters, Lucilla Duffy, Los Angeles, and Mary Ann Cogwin, Carson City, Nev.; and nine grandchildren.

Steven Neumann
The graveside service for Steven Tavis Wayne Neumann will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings.
Steven, 10, of Medford, died Friday (July 7, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 15, 1990, in Gold Beach, and lived in Brookings for most of his life. He moved to Medford eight months ago.
Steven attended Oak Grove Elementary School in Medford.
He enjoyed animals, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his parents, Michael Wayne Simpson and Wanda Dell Neumann, Medford; three brothers, Kristopher Wayne Simpson, Michael Carl Neumann and Daniel E. Neumann, all Medford; and two sisters, Stephanie Marie Neumann and Robin Rose Simpson, both Medford. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Wyanema Carlton and Ester Jay.
