Federico Cruz Salazar

The funeral Mass for Federico Cruz Salazar will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. Interment will be in Mexico.

Mr. Salazar, 42, of White City, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) near Prospect.

He was born March 2, 1958, in Durango, Mexico. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Durango.

On July 10, 1980, in Durango, he married Josefina Rodelo, who survives.

Mr. Salazar was a forklift operator for Sabroso Company for the past three years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.

Mr. Salazar enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Jaime, Andy and Ruben Tyler, all White City; two daughters, Noemi Salazar and Alama Ericka Salazar, both White City; his parents, Roman and Salome Salazar, San Luis, Mexico; eight brothers, Dario and Roman, both Medford, and Florencio, Jesus, Alberto, Desidero, Tito and Francisco, all in Mexico; four sisters, Teresa Salazar, Medford, and Maria DeLosAngles, Maria Fausta and Teresa Salazar, all in Mexico.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Dean L. Welch

Dean L. Welch, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.

He was born June 1, 1916, in Portis, Kan.

On Feb. 1, 1938, in Kansas, he married Mary F. Ralston, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Grants Pass.

Mr. Welch worked for Pacific Power and Light for more than 25 years. He began his career in 1952 and worked in various positions, most recently as a credit representative.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Welch was a member of the Congregational Church in Medford.

He enjoyed woodcraft, landscaping, fishing and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dean R., Medford; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Iva Pearl Mayfield

The graveside service for Iva Pearl Mayfield will be at 10 a.m. today at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland. The Rev. Don Baker of Ashland will officiate.

Mrs. Mayfield, 97, of Klamath Falls, formerly of Phoenix, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at her home.

She was born May 28, 1903, the daughter of Oregon pioneers Eva and Lester Lacy, and was raised in Phoenix.

On March 22, 1950, in Reno, Nev., she married William Mayfield, who died in 1975. They settled in Klamath Falls in 1950.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Seutter, Yreka, Calif.; two brothers, Virgil Lacy, Medford, and Ellis Lacy, Alturas, Calif.; a sister, Lorraine Ball, Montague, Calif.; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Eleanor Jane Farrell

Eleanor Jane Farrell, 88, of Medford, died Sunday (July 30, 2000) at her home. A private scattering of ashes will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dec. 27, 1911, in San Francisco, a daughter of William H. and Alice Mary (Kenny) Shaw. She attended schools in San Francisco, including the San Francisco College for Women, and graduated from Mills College in Oakland, Calif.

On Dec. 28, 1946, she married Robert James Farrell, who died in 1992. They moved to Ashland in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Farrell was a junior high school teacher for many years in the San Francisco area. She later worked as a secretarial clerk with the FBI.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Jane Longley, Albuquerque, N.M.; and a granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Lawrence Shaw.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Homer Mansfield Stuart

The memorial service for Homer Mansfield Stuart will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Stuart, 75, of Medford, died Friday (July 28, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born June 23, 1925, in Seattle, a son of Archie and Jean (Allen) Stuart.

Mr. Stuart began his career in journalism in 1946 as a copy boy for the New York Herald Tribune. He then worked for the Journal American, where his duties included calling photographers and reporters to assign stories specified by the night city editor. He advanced to secretary and assistant to the drama editor. As a reporter with the Journal American, he covered the opening of the United Nations building. He moved to Medford 30 years ago from New York.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater.

Mr. Stuart was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1833.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

James S. Blaylock

James S. Blaylock, 84, of Reedsport, formerly of Medford, died Friday (July 28, 2000) in Coos Bay. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 14, 1916, at Bunker Hill, a son of Jerimiah and Allie (Metzker) Blaylock.

Mr. Blaylock began his career as a meat cutter at age 14 and retired at age 62. He worked for McKay’s Markets from Gold Beach to Reedsport and was in Medford from 1930 through 1970.

He served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion during World War II and saw action in the Pacific theater.

Mr. Blaylock was a member of the Lakeside City Council and the water board from 1983-1990. He was also a member of the Elks Club for more than 50 years.

He enjoyed life, woodworking and helping his neighbors.

Survivors include two sons, Donald, Medford, and Roger J., University Place, Wash.; a brother, Don, Roseburg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four wives and a daughter, Ruth Anne Buckles, in 1992.

Arrangements: North Bend Chapel.

Gladys Marie Tuttle

The graveside service for Gladys Marie Tuttle will be at 10 a.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. John Braund of Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice will officiate.

Mrs. Tuttle, 87, of Medford, died Saturday (July 29, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Jellico, Tenn.

On June 6, 1931, in San Francisco, she married Leo Tuttle, who died in 1976. She moved to the Rogue Valley 43 years ago from Sunnyvale, Calif.

Mrs. Tuttle managed the Rogue River Lodge from 1943-1953. In the 1950s, she owned and operated At-Last-A-Lunch restaurant in Trail for seven years.

She was a member of the Women Veterans of Foreign Wars and Medford Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Tuttle was an avid bingo player and enjoyed trips to Reno with the senior citizen group.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane O. Wall, Medford; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry; and one grandson.
