Geraldine T. Rapp
Geraldine T. Rapp, 74, of John Day, formerly of Talent, died Friday (July 21, 2000) in John Day. The memorial service will be held later.
She was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Colville, Wash., a daughter of Hugh M. and Rita (Davis) Taylor. She grew up on a ranch in Colville and attended Colville Grade School. She moved to Ashland in 1942 and graduated from Ashland High School in 1944. She then attended what is now Southern Oregon University for a year and a half.
On June 1, 1947, in Medford, she married Raymond E. Rapp, who survives.
Mrs. Rapp was a homemaker and cared for her mother.
She was a member of the Southern Oregon Historical Society and the Elks Club.
She enjoyed genealogy, reading, writing poetry and cooking.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Russell E., Tigard; a daughter, Deanna Rapp Nelson, John Day; a sister, Noveen Zanotto, Ashland; and four grandsons.

John ‘Jack’ Archer
John "Jack" Archer, 82, of Medford, died Sunday (July 23, 2000) in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 19, 1917, in West Hollywood, Calif., a son of Harry and Althea (Ellsmith-Smith) Archer. He attended Fairfax High School in West Hollywood, Calif.
On May 27, 1941, in Valdez, Alaska, he married Mary Stewart, who survives. He moved from Alaska to Oroville, Wash., and from Oroville to Medford in 1977.
Mr. Archer was a mechanic for the Alaska Department of Transportation. After moving to Anchorage in 1952, he worked for Garrison Fast Freight, now Consolidated Freightways. He also got his pilot’s license and worked for the Cessna dealership for many years, retiring from Reeve Aviation Airways in the 1970s. Mr. Archer also owned an apple orchard in Oroville, Wash.
In Medford, he worked for Naumes Orchards until his retirement in 1996.
He enjoyed golf, work and visiting with friends at Bear Creek Golf Course.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Karen M. Archer, Cle Elum, Wash.; a sister, Althea "Babs" Peck, Soldotna, Alaska; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Bruce, preceded him in death.

Helen Frances Panchula
Helen Frances Panchula, 72, of Medford, died Friday (July 21, 2000) at her home. A private family service will be held. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born April 5, 1928, in Littlefield, Texas, a daughter of William LeRoy and Rachel (LeMaster) Tedford.
On Feb. 3, 1964, in Las Vegas, she married George T. Panchula, who died in 1972.
Mrs. Panchula worked as a in-home caregiver. She moved to Oregon in 1999.
She enjoyed working with her church and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon E. Pitzl, Medford; two sons, Ted R. Bolinger, Medford, and Ronald J. Bolinger, Cascade, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Thomasina Elaine Arnold
The memorial Mass for Thomasina Elaine Arnold will be at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The Rev. William Dillard of Sacred Heart will officiate. Interment will be in Springfield National Cemetery, Springfield, Mo.
She was born April 18, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa, a daughter of Thomas and Leona (Roberts) Machamer.
On July 17, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she married Richard Edward Arnold, who died in 1994. She moved to Oregon in 1997.
Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker.
She enjoyed reading, fishing and boating.
Survivors include two daughters, M. Veloye Roth, Medford, and Sonja Roth Brower, Evansdale, Iowa; a son, Michael Roth, Waterloo, Iowa; a brother, Charles Kellogg, Fredricksburg, Iowa; a sister, Colleen Cantwell, Medford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Madelaine, in 1939; three brothers; and three sisters.

Luther Gene Higgins
Luther Gene Higgins, 56, of Medford, died Friday (July 21, 2000) at his home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
He was born Dec. 29, 1943, in Los Angeles.
Mr. Higgins was a member of the Church of Christ in Gardena, Calif.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Sams, Cedar City, Utah, and Deana Higgins, in California; his mother, Mildred A. Higgins, Medford; a brother, Gary Wayne, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther, in 1981.

Mary Ellen Elam
Mary Ellen Elam, 66, of Talent, died Friday (July 21, 2000) at her home. The memorial service will be held later.

She was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Tipler, Wis., a daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (O’Conner) Taylor.
On Sept. 6, 1952, in Fort Bragg, Calif., she married Robert James Elam, who survives. They lived in Fort Bragg from 1955 to 1978, then traveled around the western states. They lived in Brookings for two years before moving to the Talent/Phoenix area in 1998.
Mrs. Elam enjoyed arts and crafts and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Rodney James, Fort Bragg, Calif.; a half-brother, Donald Dumas, Bend; and three grandchildren.

Willamae ‘Billie’ Lockett
The celebration of the life of Willamae "Billie" Irene Lockett will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Doc Griffin Park, on Fifth Street, in Jacksonville. Pastor Joel Williams of New Life Assembly of God in Medford will officiate.
Mrs. Lockett, 73, of Jacksonville, died Friday (July 21, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Grants Pass, a daughter of William Henry and Katherine Elizabeth (Conser) Stinson.
On July 3, 1948, in Reno, Nev., she married Donald J. Lockett Sr., who died in 1984.
Mrs. Lockett was a homemaker and a volunteer with the Loaves & Fishes meals program, Jacksonville unit.
She was a member of the Eagles.
Mrs. Lockett enjoyed knitting Christmas stockings, cooking, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Donald J. Jr., and Robert C., both Central Point; two daughters, Susan M. Vandagrift, Medford, and Janet D. Derry, in Idaho; a brother, Edward Stinson, Roseburg; four sisters, Kathleen Jensen, Eagle Point, Maxine Gibson, Medford, Roseann Wagner, Central Point, and Pauline Steinbech, Lancaster, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Lee Young-Jackson, in 1993.
