Carl D. Witt

The graveside service for Carl D. Witt will be at 2 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Witt, 97, of Medford, died Aug. 2, 2000 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born July 10, 1903, in Chicago.

Mr. Witt served in the U.S. Army for eight years. In civilian life he also worked for the U.S. Army, retiring in 1955 from Quartermaster Corps in the Presidio in San Francisco.

Survivors include a nephew, Arthur Witt, Columbia, Mo.; and four nieces, Victoria Frantz, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Elaine Mueller, Elmhurst, Ill, Virginia Saul, Wheaton, Ill., and Helen Mielke, Ironwood, Mich. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann; and four brothers, Art, Walt, Robert and Bill.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Marian E. Jorgenson

The funeral for Marian E. Jorgenson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.

Mrs. Jorgenson, 83, of Central Point, died Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) in Medford.

She was born July 29, 1917, in St. James, Minn., a daughter of Peter and Ella Mae Frisch.

In 1942, in Osakis, Minn., she married Arnold C. Jorgenson, who survives.

Mrs. Jorgenson was a registered nurse in St. James, Minn., St. Paul, Minn., and Chula Vista, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from Chula Vista, Calif and worked briefly at Providence Medford Medical Center, retiring in 1973. She lived in Rogue River from 1974-1988, when she moved to Central Point.

She was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and the Applegate Grange.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Jayne Temple, Medford; and three grandsons.

Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Richard ‘Larry’ Cranston

The memorial service for Richard "Larry" Cranston will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Medford Friends Church.

Mr. Cranston, 62, of Central Point, died Aug. 2, 2000 at the Diamond Lake First Aid Station as the result of a bee sting he received while biking with his family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Friends Church, 525 DeBarr Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born July 11, 1938, at the family home in Medford, a son of Maurice William and Faye (Farnsworth) Cranston. He graduated from Medford High School in 1957.

On Dec. 7, 1963, he married Margie La Fever, who survives.

Mr. Cranston was a truck driver for LTM for 35 years, retiring in 1995.

He served in the National Guard for seven years.

Mr. Cranston was a member of the Master Gardeners.

He enjoyed master gardening and outdoor activities.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Eric Cranston, Central Point, and Brad Hart, Redding, Calif.; a daughter, Linae Simpson, Medford; two brothers, Don Cranston, Medford, and Mark Carter, Alturas, Calif.; a sister, Margie Bennett, Central Point; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Janice Kay Traister

Janice Kay Traister, 64, of White City, died Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held in October.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219-5481.

She was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Butler, Mo., a daughter of Richard LeRoy and Marie Elizabeth (Simpson) Fleming.

Ms. Traister worked in the food industry as a bakery clerk. She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Montclair, Calif.

She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Carl, Medford, Steven L., Jacksonville, Michael E., White City, and Richard, Placerville, Calif.; three daughters, Judi Traister, Medford, Christine Connelly, Grants Pass, and Lorna J. James, Gold Hill; her father, Richard Fleming, White City; a sister, Anita Brady, Mount Vernon, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Valerie H. Arnold

Valerie H. Arnold, 86, of Applegate, died Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at Golden Hours Foster Care. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to C.A.T.S (Committed Alliance to Strays), P.O. Box 56, Medford, OR 97501, or the Jacksonville Library, 170 S. Oregon St., Jacksonville, OR 97530.

She was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Astoria.

In 1933, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Melvin L. Arnold, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley 28 years ago from London.

Survivors include a daughter, Alexandra A. Lynch, Portland; a sister, Naomi Smith, Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives & Crematory.

Michelle Ann Whitt

The funeral Mass for Michelle Ann Whitt will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Chapel, Ashland.

Ms. Whitt, 42, of Talent, died Monday (Aug. 7, 2000) at her home.

She was born Nov. 25, 1957, at Shelby, Mont., a daughter of Walter and Barbara Whitt and was raised in the Talent/Phoenix area.

While in high school, she worked at the Talent Police Department and later with the rehabilitation program at the White City Veterans Administration Domiciliary. She was disabled in a car accident in 1976.

From 1988 to 1998, she lived in Gresham with her companion, Jerry Kuffler, who preceded her in death.

Ms. Whitt was a member of the Catholic church.

She enjoyed drawing, gardening, traveling and people.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Kip Nelson, Talent; her father, Walter Whitt, Talent; two sisters, Ruane Miles, Gresham, and Kathleen Witt, Talent; and two stepbrothers, Chuck Kittner, Vancouver, Wash., and Allen Kittner, Tehachapi, Calif.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Tony Champ McCoy

The graveside service for Tony Champ McCoy will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Eagle Point National Cemetery interment shelter. The American Legion Honor Guard will officiate.

Mr. McCoy, 76, of Medford, died Aug. 2, 2000 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born July 5, 1924, in Los Angeles, a son of Don and Louyre (Rollins) McCoy. He received a master’s degree from Colorado A&M, now known as Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.

Mr. McCoy was a professor of English and drama. He attended the Pasadena Playhouse in California, and appeared in 27 plays and four Hollywood films. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Army with the Paratrooper Skull Squad and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

Survivors include a son, Charles, in Canada; a brother, Donald E. Jr., in Canada; a sister, Janet Lourye Odell, Medford; and several grandchildren.
