Charles Edgar Brooks
The graveside service for Charles Edgar Brooks will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks, 64, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at his home.
He was born June 9, 1936, in Murphy, N.C., a son of Wiley Anderson and Mable Bell (Donnahoo) Brooks.
On April 23, 1955, in Stevenson, Wash., he married Anita Marie Squires, who died in 1997. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from New Guinea and California.
Mr. Brooks was superintendent for Bechtel Corp., a construction company. He worked all over the world, retiring in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Hillah Shrine Temple.
He enjoyed golf.
Survivors include a daughter, Debora L. Brooks, Coos Bay; a brother, Billy, Port Angeles, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Addie Mae Brown
Addie Mae Brown, 70, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private family service will be held.
She was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Middleport, Ohio, a daughter of Earl and Cynthia (Green) Bosh.
On Aug. 31, 1951, in Indiana, she married Richard W. Brown, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from Marion, Ohio.
Mrs. Brown worked as a sorter for Naumes and Harry & David. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and reading.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Susan A. Brown, of Talent; three sons, John, of Aberdeen, Wash., and Earl and Floyd, both of Grants Pass; five brothers and a s sister; and 13 grandchildren.

Helen C. Enes
Helen C. Enes, 62, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Helen Dunkin on Feb. 4, 1938, in Madera, Calif.
In 1965, in Las Vegas, she married Frank John Enes, who died in 1968. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Antioch, Calif.
Mrs. Enes was a homemaker. She also worked in home health care for the elderly, both in home and hospital settings.
She was a Star Trek fan and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include her companion, Gary Stockton, Eagle Point; two sons, Frank J. Enes, Eagle Point, and Rick Pastor, Capitola, Calif.; four daughters, Shelly Pastor Hargous, and Sandy Pastor Jones, both Eagle Point, Maria Scribner, White City, and Wendy Josse, Pioneer, Calif.; her father, George S. Dunkin, Elizabethtown, Ky.; three brothers, Doug Dunkin, Belvedere, Ill., and Leo and Stan Dunkin, both Rockford, Ill.; three sisters, Linda Dunkin Bowker, Rockford, Ill., and Cleo Dunkin and Kitty Onstott, both Elizabethtown, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Alice Casten
Alice Casten, 70, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 6, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held. The Rev. Ervin Geiszler, retired, of the Free Methodist Church, will officiate.
She was born March 21, 1930, in Estill, Ky., a daughter of Henry and Bertha (Sexton) Rhodes. She graduated from high school in Charleston, W. Va., and moved to San Diego, where she attended San Diego State University.
On July 10, 1950, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Richard O. Casten, who died in 1997. She moved to the Rogue Valley following her husband’s retirement from the Navy in 1973.
Mrs. Casten was a homemaker, pianist and seamstress.
She was president of the Officer’s Wives Club while her husband was in the Navy.
Survivors include two sons, Scot, Beaverton, and Richard Jr., Forest Grove; two daughters, Jody Halpin, Medford, and Carla Hately, San Diego; a brother, Ray Rhodes, Medford; a sister, Carolyn Church, San Diego; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig, in 1989.

Robert Wiley Palmer
Robert Wiley Palmer, 81, chief warrant officer-4 USN, retired, of Ocean Pines, Md., formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 5, 2000) at his home in Ocean Pines, Md. The funeral service is pending at Arlington National Cemetery. A local memorial service will be held later at Crater Lake.
He was born in Weed, Calif., and was raised in Medford and Crater Lake. He graduated from Central Point High School in 1939.
Mr. Palmer enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to submarine service aboard the SS Tuna. He was later reassigned to the SS Grenadier. On patrol off Penang, Malaysia, the submarine was sunk on April 23, 1943 and all aboard were taken prisoner. Mr. Palmer was a POW in several Japanese prison camps and was released Aug. 15, 1945.
Following his release, he served an additional 22 years with the U.S. Navy, on various assignments in the Pacific. Following his retirement in 1967, he worked various jobs, but ill health resulting from his POW days limited his employment.
Mr. Palmer received numerous medals for his service in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign during World War II and the Korean War, including the Purple Heart and the Navy Unit Commendation medal.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lee Palmer, Ocean Pines, Md.; a son, Charles Martin, in California; and two stepchildren, Lynn Krall, Rockville, Md., and Robert M. Kunhardt, Wilmington, N.C.

Mary Regina Hasha
Mary Regina Hasha, 89, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (Aug. 9, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. The memorial service will be held later.
She was born Mary Racine on Aug. 20, 1910, in Corbett, Oregon.
On Dec. 11, 1988, in Medford, she married Wilmer Hasha, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Portland in 1988.
Mrs. Hasha was a member of the World Wide Church of God.
She enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, reading and sewing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Audrey Janson, Chino Valley, Ariz., and Rina, Gresham; five stepdaughters, Patricia Ann Cunningham, White City, Glenda Kelton, Central Point, Linda Sue Sargent, Louisville, Ky., Grace Heffner, Port Hueneme, Calif., and Clarice Naley, Fayetteville, Ark.; four stepsons, W.D., White City, Jeff, Vale, Richard, Seattle, and Larry, San Jose, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Vetter.

Thomas ‘Tom’ E. James
Thomas "Tom" Earl James, 59, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 4, 2000) at his home. A private service will be held.
He was born April 15, 1941, in Broken Bow, Okla., a son of Henry and Geneva (Cummings) James. He attended college for one year and moved to Oregon in 1947.
Mr. James worked in construction.
Survivors include two sons, Brian, Medford, and Mark, Eagle Point; a daughter, Nancy James, Klamath Falls; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Patricia Irene Starks
Patricia Irene Starks, 42, of White City, died Aug. 1, 2000 at Providence Medford Medical Center as the result of a motor vehicle accident on July 22. Private inurnment will be in Quincy, Ill.
She was born Dec. 18, 1957, in Quincy, Ill., a daughter of Otto E. and Doris Irene (Howell) Starks.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy and Danny Cupples, both in Arkansas; her mother and stepfather, Doris and David Whittaker, Quincy, Ill.; three brothers, Ronald Keith Whittaker, Quincy, Ill., David Stimson, Burlington, Iowa, and Clarence Edward Starks, Dixon, Ill.; two sisters, Brenda Willner, Quincy, Ill., and Lorrie Denise Fitzgerald, Kirksville, Mo.; and her step-grandmother, Donna Whittaker, Quincy, Ill. She was preceded in death by her father, Otto E. Starks; and her grandmother, Mary Harding.
