Donald ‘Don’ B. Birkey
The memorial service for Donald "Don" B. Birkey will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gold Hill United Methodist Church. Pastor Jack Cornell will officiate.
Mr. Birkey, 74, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Pekin, Ill., a son of Ruben and Lena (Maurer) Birkey.
On Dec. 18, 1949, in Myrtle Point, he married Mary E. Wilcox, who survives.
Mr. Birkey was a master carpenter and builder.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Mr. Birkey enjoyed fishing, woodworking and bird watching.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Rick, in Nevada; a sister, Jean Amundson, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Keith Erwin Castle
The memorial service for Keith Erwin Castle will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Medford.
Mr. Castle, 68, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 16, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1931, in Detroit.
On May 23, 1959, in Detroit, he married Lavelle Reynders, who survives.
Mr. Castle was an insurance inspector for Equifax for 29 years. He then worked as an insurance agent. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Detroit.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Castle volunteered for the Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Ombudsman, 4-H Guide Dogs for the Blind and the little league.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Castle enjoyed biking, gardening, softball and golfing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Brent, Portland; three daughters, Julie Castle, Portland, Karen Cruson, Elko, Nev., and Christine Hammers, Seattle; four brothers, George, in Florida, Bob and Dick, both in Michigan, and Don, in California; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig.

Roger F. Goldsmith
The memorial service for Roger F. Goldsmith will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Upper Applegate Grange.
Mr. Goldsmith, 74, of Jacksonville, died July 30, 2000, in Chino, Calif.

Rowena Kellis Ferrario
The memorial service for Rowena Kellis Ferrario will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Ferrario, 82, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

She was born July 9, 1918, in Portland, a daughter of Harry and Bess (Clark) Kellis.
In 1942, in Klamath Falls, she married Frank Ferrario, who survives.
Mrs. Ferrario was a bank teller. She was also an artist, educated at the Famous Artist School in Connecticut, the Oregon Department of Continuing Education and through private instruction and workshops with Lee Beaman and Robert Bannister. She painted landscapes and seascapes in oil and held many one woman shows at the Lincoln Art Center and the Klamath Art Center Gallery in Oregon and in Fort Ord, Calif. She had private collections in Oregon, California, Washington and Canada. She also participated in teaching workshops at Fort Ord, Calif., Klamath Falls and Diamond Lake.
She was included in the 1981-1982 "Artists of Renown."
Mrs. Ferrario enjoyed nature and spending time with her husband and friends in outdoor activities.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Michael, British Columbia, Canada; three sisters, Jean Bunker, Corvallis, MaryLee Kellis, Florence, and Patricia Elsensohn, in North Carolina; and two grandchildren.

P. Peter Sacco
The memorial service for P. Peter Sacco will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Ashland. The Rev. Tony Schultz will officiate.
Mr. Sacco, 71, of Ashland, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Albion, N.Y., a son of Peter and Rose (Saeva) Sacco. He attended school in the New York area, and received his bachelor’s degree from Freedonia State. He received his master’s degree and doctor of musical arts degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
On July 2, 1979, in Burlingame, Calif., he married Theodora Topp, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1985.
Mr. Sacco was a professor of music at San Francisco State University, retiring in 1980. He was also a world-renowned composer and singer who taught voice, composed music, directed choirs, and sang in operas, oratorios and Broadway musicals in Lower Lake, Calif. and Ashland.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.
Mr. Sacco enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, mushrooming and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Peter Thomas, Port Richey, Fla.; a daughter, Jeanette Sacco Belli, Belmont, Calif.; a stepson, Douglas Davis, Puyallup, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Alison Davis, Waldport; his mother, Rose Sacco, Albion, N.Y.; a brother, Joe, Albion, N.Y.; a sister, Gina Boothby, Albion, N.Y.

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Duffield
Elizabeth "Betty" (Vilm) Duffield, 81, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Medford, died July 22, 2000, in Green Valley, Ariz. The memorial service was held July 29 at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Green Valley. The Rev. Thomas A. Pringle officiated. Interment was at Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
She was born Elizabeth Vilm on Sept. 14, 1918, in Medford.
Mrs. Duffield served as a captain in the Women’s Army Corps. She was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Green Valley chapter, and the Women in Military Service of America.
She was also a member of the Green Valley Republican Women, Pi Beta Phi fraternity, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where she was a docent in 1985.
Mrs. Duffield was a member of the Friends of Madera Canyon, the Episcopal Church Women, the Elks Ladies, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra E. Simon, Surprise, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Llewellyn R. Duffield, retired; and a sister, Jean Hart, Medford.

Ronda Lynn Heard
Ronda Lynn Heard, 56, of Ashland, died Sunday (Aug. 13, 2000) at Linda Vista Care Center. The memorial service will be held later.
She was born Feb. 13, 1944, in Denver.
On July 20, 1986, in Hilt, Calif., she married Lewis Durham, who survives.
Ms. Heard was a transpersonal psychology therapist until her retirement in 1990. She moved to the Rogue Valley one year ago from Mount Shasta, Calif. Prior to that she had lived in San Rafael, Calif.
She was a member of the Human Awareness Institute.
She enjoyed travel, art workshops and being around people.
Survivors, include her husband, Lewis Durham, Upper Lake, Calif.; her daughter, Dana Keller, Talent; two brothers, Phillip M. Feingold, Tel Aviv, Israel, and Stanley A. Feingold, Glen Ellen, Calif.; a sister, Joyce M. Revis, Napa, Calif.; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Feingold, in 1946; and her mother, Sylvia Feingold Boutcher, in 1981.
