Margaret ‘Sue’ Barkley
The memorial service for Margaret "Sue" Barkley will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom Daley.
Ms. Barkley, 80, of Ashland, died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000) at Skylark Place.

She was born June 5, 1920, a daughter of Walter William and Emma C.A. (Ehlers) Mundt and was raised one of seven children on their farm outside of Carter, Mont. She moved to Great Falls in the mid-1930s, and graduated from high school in 1937. She completed the two-year baccalaureate program at the Montana Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She finished her nurse’s training in Bozeman, and received her RN from Montana State University. In 1959, she received her master’s degree in psychiatric nursing from Indiana University, and returned to Bozeman, Mont.
Ms. Barkley was a psychiatric nurse with the MSU extended campus program at Warm Spring State Hospital for 17 years. In the mid-70s, she was appointed to the positions of director of the College of Nursing and Dean of Women of Montana State University. She was also appointed by the governor of Montana to serve multi-terms on the State Board of Nursing.
She was instrumental in the development of four-year nursing programs in colleges throughout the Northwest. She also created the "Roving RN" curriculum which supported nursing education in the rural areas of Montana.
Ms. Barkley was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed bird watching, skiing, gardening and sewing.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Daley, Ashland; a sister, Helen Long, Shelby, Mont.; two brothers, Walter Mundt, Shelby, Mont., and Gerald Mundt, Helena, Mont.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Eilene Brandt, Anita Mundt and Ina Porter.

John Herbert Goslin
The family of John Herbert Goslin will gather at 2 p.m. Saturday at the family home, 448 Daniel St., Central Point.
Mr. Goslin, 52, of Central Point, died Saturday (Aug. 19, 2000) at his home.
He was born May 5, 1948, in Glendale, Calif., a son of Alvinza and Elizabeth (Clark) Goslin.
On Dec. 15, 1981, in Clark County, Nev., he married Debra Lynn Baldwin, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. Goslin was a truck driver for Gene Plunk Trucking in Central Point for six years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Goslin was a member of the Elks Club.
He enjoyed skydiving, playing pool and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanna Branez, Long Beach, Calif., and Spirit Seeley, Boulder, Colo.; three sons, Kristofer, Central Point, John Jr., Long Beach, Calif., and Ryan McQuiston, Boulder, Colo.; his mother, Elizabeth Deemer, Medford; a sister, Cathy Goslin, in California; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; and a brother, Steven.

Susan Ann Haag
The memorial service for Susan Ann Haag will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville. The Rev. Bill Ryan will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Elks Picnic Grounds at 2 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Mrs. Haag, 63, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at her home after a long fight with cancer.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 310, Jacksonville, OR 97530.
She was born Dec. 26, 1936, in Eugene, a daughter of Orlo and Thelma Ricker Youngquist.
On Jan. 10, 1970, in Salem, she married Don Haag, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Salem, and attended what is now Southern Oregon University.
Mrs. Haag was a legal secretary for attorney Otto Frohmeyer, and for Medford School District 549C, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, Rogue Valley Old Timers Car Club and Elks Lodge No. 1168.
Mrs. Haag enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle, her cats and RVing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Robert Gray, White City, Kevin Gray, Central Point, and Bruce and Douglas Haag, both Salem; two daughters, Katherine Voight and Cynthia "Cindy" Haag, both Salem; a brother, Michael Youngquist, Sumner, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Phyllis Ruth Schneider
Phyllis Ruth Schneider, 67, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 20, 2000) at Hearthstone Manor in Medford. A private service will be held.

She was born Sept. 18, 1932, in Boise, Idaho, a daughter of Glenn and Luella Schneider. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1965.
Ms. Schneider was a clerk for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
She was an accomplished pianist.
Survivors include a brother, Glenn Schneider, Shedd; and a sister, Shirley Norton, Fresno, Calif..

Lavenia DeRoo
The funeral service for Lavenia "Beanie" DeRoo will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. DeRoo, 91, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 21, 2000) at a foster care home in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Lavenia Kerr on May 21, 1909, in Piggott, Ark.
On Aug. 19, 1927, in Everett, Wash., she married Cyriel DeRoo, who died in 1982. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1960 from Los Angeles.
Mrs. DeRoo worked in the family businesses in restaurants and lounges and also as a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Cyriel Howard, Medford; a daughter, Caroline (DeRoo) Ebert, Camano Island, Wash.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters; three brothers. A grandson died in Vietnam in 1970.

LoEdith Defenbaugh
LoEdith Defenbaugh, 100, of Ashland, died Sunday (Aug. 20, 2000) in Ashland. No service is planned.
She was born Aug. 6, 1900, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, a daughter of Benjemine and Elva Thompson.
On May 28, 1926, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, she married Charles E. Defenbaugh, who died in 1978.
Mrs. Defenbaugh was a bookkeeper for Ship Ashore and was part owner of the Green Door Bar and Restaurant in Brookings. She moved to Ashland in 1998 from Smith River, Calif.
Survivors include a son, Robert, Ashland; three grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jefferson ‘J.P.’ Allen
The memorial service for Jefferson Peter "J.P." Allen will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Medford Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Ken Hall of Son Rise Outreach of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, White City and Pastor George White of the Central Point Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mr. Allen, 65, of White City, died Aug. 17, 2000, at his home.

He was born May 13, 1935, in Wallowa County, Ore., a son of Wilford Henry and Juanita Billie (Muse) Allen.
On June 12, 1970, in Portland, he married Judy LaVerne Davis, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Portland. He received a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in art history in 1990 from what is now Southern Oregon University.
Mr. Allen was a firefighter for 35 years. He was also a construction worker in Portland and in the Rogue Valley. He spent the past nine years working as a security officer for Initial Security, Inc.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, in crash fire rescue unit (CFR) during the Korean War.
Mr. Allen was a member of Construction Laborers Union Local 1241 and Local 1400.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Norman Richard and Wilford Henry II, both White City; a daughter, Ruth LaVerne Allen, White City; and a sister, Virginia Lee Poppino, Gearheart. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilda Marguerite Bulis, Mary Margaret Murphy, and Katherine Leown Grafton.
