Loyce ‘Bud’ Westerman
The memorial service for Loyce S. "Bud" Westerman will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Doug Schmidt of Three Rivers Hospice will officiate.
Loyce "Bud" Westerman, 80, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (July 22, 2000) at his home. The service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery at a later date.

He was born Loyce Spencer Westerman on May 9, 1920, in La Habra, Calif.
On Nov. 12, 1949, in Fullerton, Calif., he married Virginia R. Russ, who survives. He moved to Grants Pass in 1951 from Buena Park, Calif.
Mr. Westerman was a tire repairman and assistant manager for Oregon Tire.
During World War II, he served as a U.S. Army staff sergeant and tank commander with the 273rd Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy landing. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in France. He also received the Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster.
He was a member of the Foursquare Church and Ducks Unlimited.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, outdoor activities and visiting family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Carole Garcia, Grants Pass; a son, Randy, Grants Pass; two sisters, Leona Robbins and Jewell Fisher, both Rogue River; a brother, Leroy, Grants Pass; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Joe Russ; two brothers, Franklin and Troy; and a sister, Mary Davis.

Joseph Power Jewell
Joseph Power Jewell, 66, of Tacoma, Wash., formerly of the Applegate area, died Aug. 14, 2000, in Tacoma, Wash. No service is planned.
He was born Feb. 26, 1934, in Hot Springs, Ark., a son of Sherman A. and Cora (Newcomb) Jewell.
Mr. Jewell worked in forest management for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring after 30 years. Following his retirement, he was an avid gold miner in Southern Oregon.
He coached little league baseball and other sports for numerous years in Douglas and Polk Counties.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin and Errin; a daughter, Tara Jewell; and one granddaughter.

Elsa Mae Magerle
The funeral for Elsa Mae Magerle will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rogue Valley Community Church in Rogue River. Pastor Dick Kelso will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery.
Mrs. Magerle, 71, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) at her home.

She was born Elsa Mae Tillman on Dec. 25, 1928 in Pure, Okla., a daughter of Calvin Andrew and Eliza Mae (Miller) Tillman. She moved to Oregon in 1952.
On Jan. 5, 1955, in Reno, she married Richard Lee Magerle, who survives.
Mrs. Magerle was a Girl Scout leader, taught in the Child Evangelism Fellowship and helped with the Good News Club.
She was a member of Rogue Valley Community Church.
Mrs. Magerle enjoyed crafts, gardening and camping.
Survivors in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Martha Longtain, Rogue River, and Patricia Effingham, Christmas Valley; two sisters, Marie Pierce, Salem, and Christine Webster, Cleveland, Okla.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Goesling; and two brothers, Francis and Junior Tillman.
Friends may pay their respects from 10-11 a.m. Monday, at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.
Curtis Willard Green
Friends and family of Curtis Willard Green will gather at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Funeral Care.
Mr. Green, 60, of Ashland, died Thursday (Aug. 24, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Del Norte, Colorado. He lived in Ashland from 1990 to 1996 and moved to Idaho. He recently settled back in Ashland.
Mr. Green enjoyed reading and music.
Survivors include a sister, Martha Berg, Ashland; and a brother, Loy Green, Anchorage.

George William Linde
George William Linde, 72, of Medford died Thursday (Aug. 24, 2000) at his home. A private service will be held.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1928, in Port Angeles, Wash. He was a son of John Reinold and Helen Montana (Cameron) Linde.
On July 25, 1953, in Auburn, Calif., he married Marian S. Smith, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Sacramento.
Mr. Linde served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and during World War II.
He was a graduate of California State University in Sacramento and was one of 20 outstanding students. He was a teacher at Rio Americana High School in Sacramento, and was faculty advisor for the student newspaper. He was a sportswriter for the Sacramento Bee and wrote features for the California State Fair.
Mr. Linde was recognized by the House of Representatives in the Congressional Record as an outstanding teacher in 1987.
He was a member of the California State Teachers Association, the Elks Lodge, Cedar Links Men’s Golf Club and the Southern Oregon Couples Golf Club.
Mr. Linde enjoyed sports and writing.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Jeff Madsen, Jacksonville, and Scott Daniel, Vancouver, Wash.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Louis E. Keller
The memorial service for Louis E. Keller will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, at United Methodist Church of Medford.
Mr. Keller, 80, of Medford, died Wednesday (Aug. 23, 2000) in Medford.

He was born May 5, 1920 in Boise, Idaho, a son of Robert B. and Emma K. Keller.
On Aug. 6, 1942 in Columbia, S.C., he married Marian Hendrickson, who survives. He moved to Medford in 1987 from Corona, Calif.
Mr. Keller was a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Tokyo Doolittle Raiders and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 for extraordinarily courageous achievement.
He and his wife owned and operated Keller’s Home Furnishings in Corona, Calif., for 53 years.
Mr. Keller was the Commander of the American Legion Post in Corona, Calif.; he was a Master of Temescal Masonic Lodge; president of Riverside Shrine Club; president of the Rotary Club of Corona; president of Corona Chamber of Commerce; and served on the Corona City Council.
He enjoyed golfing and flying.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Jill Keller, Phoenix, Luan Keller, O’Brian, Ore., and Kathie Keller, East Hampton, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert D., Houston, and George A., Cherry Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Margrette T. Steinhoefel
The memorial service for Margrette Taha Steinhoefel will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford. Pastor Jim Berglund will officiate. Interment will be at Crestlawn Memorial Park, Riverside, Calif.
Mrs. Steinhoefel, 97, of Central Point, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) in Medford.

She was born Margrette Taha Brizzi on May 27, 1903 in Omaha, Neb.
On Nov. 22, 1922 in Omaha, she married Ruby Steinhoefel, who preceded her in death. She moved to Central Point in 1992 from Riverside, Calif.
Mrs. Steinhoefel was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Las Sierra Seventh-day Adventist Church in Riverside, Calif., and a member of the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford.
Survivors include a son, Jack, Central Point; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Eugene and Rudy Jr., four brothers and two sisters.
