Carl Barks

The funeral for Carl Barks will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Pastor Bob Wood of Redwood Christian Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Barks, 99, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 400 N.E. E St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born on March 27, 1901, in Merrill.

In 1954 in Reno, he married Garé, who preceded him in death on March 10, 1993. He moved to Grants Pass in 1983 from Temecula, Calif.

Mr. Barks began work in 1935 as a cartoonist with Walt Disney Studios, later becoming a storyboard artist and writer. He wrote and illustrated almost 500 Donald Duck comic books between 1942 and 1966. He retired in 1966 and continued to write until 1973.

He enjoyed oil painting at his home.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Gibson, Bremerton, Wash.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy.

Phillip Joseph Button

The funeral for Phillip Joseph Button will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Roseburg veterans cemetery.

Mr. Button, 58, of Gold Hill, died Aug. 21, 2000, in Roseburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 8725 N.E. Sandy Blvd., Portland, OR 97220, or to the Roseburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center, c/o Myrtle Grove Funeral Service, P.O. Box 37, Coquille, OR 97423.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1941, in Valparaiso, Ind.

In 1984, he married Joyce B. Bowers, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987.

Mr. Button completed six years of college in northern California.

He served in the U.S. Army infantry during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Button owned and operated a diesel and gas repair service and farmed in the Sams Valley area.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, John and Matthew, both Gold Hill; two sisters, Phyllis Armstrong, Spring City, Tenn., and Jean Bowers, Sams Valley; two brothers, Richard, El Sobrante, Calif., and John, Valparaiso, Ind.; a stepson, Roy Bowers, Racine, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Jean Bowers, Sams Valley, and Theresa Bowers, Racine; and seven step-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Myrtle Grove Funeral Service, Coquille.

Eugene Earl Gemaehlich

The memorial service for Eugene Earl Gemaehlich will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Medford.

Mr. Gemaehlich, 67, of Central Point, died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at a friend’s home in Beaverton.

He was born on Aug. 11, 1933, in St. Francis, Kan., a son of Burt H.D. Gemaehlich and Elsie Marie Felzien Stowell. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1940. Mr. Gemaehlich worked as a traveling sales representative for Ely Walker Western Wear for 30 years.

He enjoyed traveling the West Coast.

Survivors include a son, Robert LeRoy B. and a daughter, Kathleen Gemaehlich Doyle, both Medford; two brothers, Robert Lee, Madras, and Eric, Los Angeles; two sisters, Yvonne Gemaehlich Hart and Marilyn Gemaehlich Jensen, both Medford; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Eugene, in 1995, and by his parents.

Arrangements: Autumn Funeral & Cremation, Tigard.

LeRoy F. Stuart

The funeral for LeRoy F. Stuart will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home. The Rev. William Dillard of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.

Mr. Stuart, 79, of Medford, died Thursday, (Aug. 24, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 6915 S.W. Macadam, No. 130, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Grand Junction, Colo., a son of Fred and Margaret Adshade Stuart.

On July 27, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., he married Frances Lucido, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from Vale.

Mr. Stuart was a first lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corp. He fought in Normandy, France, and in the Rhineland. He received the American Theater Victory Medal in World War II.

He was a pharmacist before retirement.

Mr. Stuart and his wife were park hosts at Valley of the Rogue State Park, Yaquina Bay Light House, Sunset Bay and Stewart Park.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and crafts.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Joanne L. Stuart, Grants Pass, and Christine Stine, Hillsboro; a son, Richard L., Lynnwood, Wash.; four sisters, Evelyn Simmons, Roy, Utah, Dottie Dance, Livermore, Calif., Maxine Bosgieter, Pleasant View, Utah, and Barbara Stone, Upland, Calif.; two brothers, Earl and Keith, both from Ogden, Utah; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray M.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Jack Kezer

The funeral for Jack Kezer will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford. Elder Michael T. Robinson will officiate.

Mr. Kezer, 77, of Central Point, died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Whizbang, Okla. On Jan. 11, 1946, in Oklahoma, he married the former Audrey M. Willmon, who survives. He had lived in the Rogue Valley since moving here in 1981 from Leona Valley, Calif.

Mr. Kezer was a baker for Oroweat(cq no h) in North Hollywood, Calif., for many years, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed his family and horses, fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Janet of Fresno, Calif., and Cheryl Robinson, of Central Point; a brother, Dearrel, San Bernardino, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitors may pay their respects at noon on Monday at Memory Gardens.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Alice I. Rooker

A memorial service for Alice I. Rooker will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland St., Ashland.

Mrs. Rooker, 91, died Thursday (Aug. 24, 2000) at Skylark Assisted Care in Ashland.

She was born May 24, 1909, in Portland to William H. Matney and Sara Pearl M. Penrose. She attended schools in Albany.

On July 5, 1927, in Gold Beach, she married Charles C. Rooker, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Rooker moved to Ashland in 1950 from Eureka, Calif. She worked most her life as a seamstress. She retired in 1968 and enjoyed painting, crafts, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by a son, William Rooker, Hornbrook, Calif.; a daughter, Donna Hubbard, Ashland; a sister, Mary Richey, Phoenix; and 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Nellie G. Schwab

The memorial graveside service for Nellie G. Schwab will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens in Medford.

Mrs. Schwab, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Medford, died Aug. 15, 2000, in Springfield.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens, Medford.
