Betty Jane O'Brien
Betty Jane (Dunn) O'Brien, 77, of Rogue River, died August 20, 2000, at her home. The memorial service was held Thursday, Aug. 31, at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 26, 1923, to the Dunn family of Curtice, Ohio. She was the highest honor "Bishop' Cross" winner as a graduate of Central Catholic High School.
In 1941, she married Kenneth A. O'Brien, who survives. They lived in Toledo, Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio, Hilo, Hawaii, and finally Rogue River, and celebrated their 59th anniversary on July 8.
Mrs. O'Brien was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Catholic Altar & Rosary Societies in Ohio and Hawaii as well as a Cub Scout den mother.
Mrs. O'Brien was a certified ceramics teacher. She enjoyed camping, the outdoors, ceramics and yearly travel throughout the United States.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Kittie Kennedy, Medford, Judy Faunce, Grand Junction, Colo., and Kim Gartland, Seattle; three sons, Tim, Medford, Mike, Hilo, Hawaii, and Kevin, Tioga, N.D.; two sisters, Margaret Dohms and Angela Dunn, both Curtice, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia, in 1948.

Carrie J. Peck
The graveside service for Carrie J. Peck will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.
Mrs. Peck, 91, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000) at her home.
She was born April 1, 1909, in Unica Springs, Tenn.
In 1943, in Reno, Nev., she married Leonard E. Peck, who died in July. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Redding, Calif.
Mrs. Peck enjoyed caring for her family and going on family outings.
Survivors include two sons, Bill E., Medford, and Leonard Jay, Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter in 1993.

Philip Jefferson Hussey
The memorial service for Philip Jefferson Hussey will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass.
Mr. Hussey, 94, of Central Point, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2000) at his home.

He was born Oct. 6, 1905, in Merlin. He lived in the Grants Pass and Merlin areas all of his life, except for a five-year period when he worked out of state. He moved to Central Point three years ago from Grants Pass.
Mr. Hussey owned and operated a farm on Riverbanks Road raising timber, hay and peppermint. He also worked for Fry Farms off Riverbanks Road driving heavy equipment and farming for many years.
He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 78, Order of Odd Fellows, since 1941 and received his 50-year pin. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Hussey got his pilot’s license when he was younger and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Janice Jackson and Carol Medcalf, both of Central Point, and Dona Pierce, Medford; a stepson, Ronald Frey, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Marion Brittsan, Medford, and Dama Damewood, Eugene; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur "Ted" and Carrol; and a sister, Lois Runstetlar.

Jerrel Kirklin
The graveside service for Jerrel Kirklin will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Pearson of the Medford First Baptist Church will officiate.
Mr. Kirklin, 74, of Butte Falls, died Aug. 27, 2000, at his home.

He was born July 19, 1926, in Lathe, Ark., a son of Pearl Kirklin. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Bakersfield, Calif.
Mr. Kirklin was a truck driver in the Oregon timber industry.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years.
Mr. Kirklin enjoyed fishing, restoring old cars and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his companion, Mary Boyd of Butte Falls; three nephews, Lynn, White City, Wayne, Grants Pass, and Jim, Wilder, Idaho; and a niece, Penny Kirklin, White City. He was preceded in death by a brother, David; and a niece, Norma Hackett.

Susan Judith Hunt
The funeral Mass for Susan Judith Hunt will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Ms. Hunt, 53, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2000) at her home.

She was born May 14, 1947, in Cherry Point, N.C., a daughter of Francis "Rocky" and Marciele "Marcy" Opeka. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from Seaside.
Ms. Hunt was a records supervisor for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include her parents, Francis "Rocky" and Marciele "Marcy" Opeka, Medford; four sisters, Toni Valle, Franklin, N.Y., Julie Wertepny, Portland, Jody Heydon, Kailua, Hawaii, and Lisa Daughenbaugh, Moreno Valley, Calif.; and a brother, Daniel Opeka, Moreno Valley, Calif.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Jo Ann Bennett
The graveside service for Jo Ann Bennett will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Pastor Jay Wolfman of Word of Life Christian Fellowship in Medford will officiate.
Ms. Bennett, 68, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born March 31, 1932, in Rogers, Ark., a daughter of John and Dorothy (Strain) Hannon. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Pasadena, Calif.
Ms. Bennett was a homemaker.
She enjoyed raising her dog, Sha Sha, gardening, baking and embroidery and other needlework.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Lamproe, White City, and Shannon Schwinler and Terri Ross, both Vancouver, Wash.; her mother, Dorothy Strain Hannon, Lemoore, Calif.; two sisters, Sara Williams, Loyalton, Calif., and Janet Middlebrook, Paso Robles, Calif.; a brother, Teddy Hannon, Lemoore; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Earl Bennett, Central Point. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Fraley.

Gene Fischer
The funeral for Gene Fischer will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mr. Fischer, 88, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at his son’s home in Woodland, Calif.

He was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Wamego, Kan.
On Feb. 28, 1938, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Elsie Marie West, who died in 1991.
Mr. Fischer owned and managed an apartment complex in Santa Monica, Calif. He also worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica from 1936 until his retirement in 1969. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Santa Monica, Calif.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking and watching football on television.
Survivors include a son, Thomas, Woodland, Calif.; a sister, Dora Linton, Wamego, Kan.; a brother, Frank, Bullhead City, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
