Mary Dovie Duke
The memorial service for Mary Dovie Duke will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Duke, 87, died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000) at Orchards Assisted Living in Medford.
She was born Nov. 5, 1912, in Scurry, Texas, the daughter of Ike and Ola Flowers.
On Sept. 29, 1929, in Rusk, Texas, she married Horace C. Duke, who survived.
She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1960 from Jacksonville, Texas. She and her husband retired from Gratsinger Dairy in Eagle Point in 1975.
She was a member of the Lighthouse Church.
She enjoyed baking peach cobbler and flower gardening.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Billy Duke, and three daughters, Margie Allen, Mary Beebe and Patty Dollar. She was preceded in death by a son, Horace Lee, a grandson and a granddaughter.
Visitors may pay their respects from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, 800 S. Front St., Central Point.

Janie E. Newton King
The memorial service for Janie Elizabeth Newton King will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. Private inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.
Mrs. King, 83, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Sept. 7, 2000) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Grants Pass.
She was born Oct. 9, 1916, in Dover, Ark., a daughter of John M. and Janie Tate Newton. She moved with her family to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, and graduated from nursing school in McAllen, Texas in 1937.
On Aug. 24, 1937, in McAllen, Texas, she married Allan. P. "Pete" King, who died in 1988. They lived in California before moving to Oregon. She was a resident of Southern Oregon since 1946, and a resident of Highland House since 1988.
Mrs. King was a registered nurse. In Southern Oregon, she worked for Ashland General Hospital, Medford Community Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Rogue Valley Memorial and Providence Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Allan P., Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Elizabeth King, Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Mattie Moses, Santa Rosa, Texas; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John M. Newton.

Helen Ballard Gardener
Helen Ballard Gardener, 98, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) in Medford. Private interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

She was born Helen Ballard on Dec. 18, 1901, in Los Angeles. She graduated from Bishop Johnson College, now known as Good Samaritan, in Los Angeles in 1921.
In 1925, in Santa Ana, Calif., she married James E. Wooton, who died in 1944. Later, she married Raphael Gardener, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Gardener was a registered nurse at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles until 1936, when she moved to Medford. In Medford, she worked for Dr. W. W. Howard from 1936-1946. From 1946-1995, she and her husband owned and operated The Gardener Ranch in Lake Creek.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Owen, Vancouver, Wash.; and a granddaughter.

Velma J. Tibbets
The memorial service for Velma J. Tibbets will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the South Umpqua Community Church. Pastor Dennis Ellingson will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the Canyonville I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mrs. Tibbets, 79, formerly of Drew, near Tiller, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at a Roseburg area care manor.

She was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Corcoran, Calif., a daughter of Thomas and Roxie (Andrews) Lowry. She graduated from high school in the Corcoran area.
On Dec. 23, 1938, in Corcoran, she married Earl Tibbets who died in 1991. They moved to Drew, near Tiller, in 1947, where they had resided ever since.
Mrs. Tibbets worked for the Days Creek School District for more than 25 years as a cook at Tiller Elementary School.
She was a founding member of the South Umpqua Community Church in Tiller, and helped in the construction of the church building.
Mrs. Tibbets enjoyed helping neighbors and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Richard, Medford; Jim, Palmer, Alaska; a daughter, Peggy Fine, Roseburg; two sisters, Wilma Earon, Reno, Nev., and Marlene Ridenour, Vacaville, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Arlene Tibbets; and two brothers, Troy and Virgil Lowry.

David W. Case
The memorial service for David Warren Case will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Medford Congregational Church. The Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate.
Mr. Case, 80, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2000) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Dimmick Campus, Grants Pass.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Thompson, Mo.
Mr. Case was a crane operator with Boise Cascade.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific.
Mr. Case enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and traveling.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis, Robert and Roger; a brother, Albert; two sisters, Rosemarie and Hazel; numerous grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly, in 1992; a daughter, Betty; a brother, Charlie; and two sisters, Dorthy and Lilly.

Mary Carmela Bath
The funeral Mass for Mary Carmela Bath will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Carmelo Mifsud will officiate. The graveside service will follow the Mass.
Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Chapel.
Mrs. Bath, 78, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
She was born April 19, 1922, in Auburn, N.Y., a daughter of Charles P and Maria DeChick. She was one of 18 children.
In 1963, in California, she married Parhar Bath, who died in 1985. She moved to Medford in 1975 from California.
Mrs. Bath was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Altar Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Barnes, Medford, and Patricia Ann Elizabeth Sidhu, Fresno, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.
Nelda Jean Lane
The memorial service for Nelda Jean Lane will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 953 Garfield Ave., Medford.
Ms. Lane, 72, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2000) at her home.
She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Oklahoma City. She moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Phoenix, Ariz.
Ms. Lane was a parking lot ticket taker for Rogue Valley International Airport for 14 years.
She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses South Medford congregation.
Survivors include two sons, Robert, Medford, and Steve, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Debra Randolph, Medford, and Jana Brown, Carlstadt, N.J.
