Maria Perezchica Serna
The funeral Mass for Maria Perezchica Serna will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Serna, 45, of White City, died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) at her home.
She was born Maria Perezchica on Sept. 15, 1954 in Jalpa Zacatecas, Mexico.
On June 24, 1981, in El Caracol, Zacatecas, Mexico, she married Maximo Serna, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley six years ago.
Mrs. Serna enjoyed camping, walking, and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five sons, Minardo, Maximo Jr., Eric, Andres and Jesus, all White City; two daughters, Alondra Serna and Ashley Serna, both White City; and two brothers, Jose Perezchica, McFarland, Calif., and Guadelupe Perezchica, Colton, Calif.

Kenneth Lisle Rathburn
The memorial service for Kenneth Lisle Rathburn will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cave Junction.
Mr. Rathburn, 69, of O’Brien, died Monday (Sept. 11, 2000) at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1931, in Stamford, Conn.
Mr. Rathburn was an ordained minister of the Jehovah’s Witnesses until his retirement. He moved to O’Brien in 1998 from Sierra Vista, Ariz.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Rathburn enjoyed restoring antique cars.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Rathburn, O’Brien; a son, David Weigert, Liberty Hills, Texas; three daughters, Kathleen Wise, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Ann Marie Goff and Tiffany Lee Barlow, both O’Brien; his mother, Lillian Rathbun, Selma, a sister, Gail Reynolds, Palmer, Alaska; and seven grandchildren.

Leonard Edward Elbert
The Mass of Christian burial for Leonard Edward Elbert will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rogue River Catholic Community, at Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River. The Rev. John Cihak will officiate. Interment will be in Gotcher Cemetery in Williams.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass.
Mr. Elbert, 88, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Sept. 9, 2000) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus, Grants Pass.
He was born July 21, 1912, in Seneca, Mo. He moved to Medford in 1948 from Cupertino, Calif.
Mr. Elbert was a finish carpenter. He worked on several construction sites in Medford, including the Rogue Valley Manor. He lived in Harbor from 1975-1981, where he owned Leonard’s Produce.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Grants Pass and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Carpenter’s Union in Medford.
Mr. Elbert was an avid bowler and pool player.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin, Medford, and Ed, Grants Pass; seven daughters, Kathy Messinger, Portland, Geraldine Heideman, Eugene, Mary Bennett, Lodi, Calif., Susan Mathiasen, Grants Pass, Eva Coleman, Provolt, Rita Bazor, Fort Bragg, Calif., and Monica Huber, Fort Dick, Calif.; his former wife, Geraldine Wolfe, Fort Bragg, Calif.; two brothers, Walter, Grants Pass, and Charles, Vancouver, Wash; five sisters, Ruby Bennett, Grants Pass, Esther Swindon, Roseburg, Barbara Hokanson, Monmouth, Florence Eberhardt, Fremont, Calif., and Loretta Garcia, Tualatin; 37 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass.
L’Marie F. Drake
The graveside service for L’Marie F. Drake will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastor Ed Keys of the Medford Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Drake, 76, of Jacksonville, died Monday (Sept. 11, 2000) at her home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon University Nursing Program, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520.
She was born April 13, 1924, in Los Angeles. She received a nursing degree from White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles and a degree in political science from what is now Southern Oregon University.
She was widowed twice.
Mrs. Drake was a registered nurse in Los Angeles during World War II. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947.
She enjoyed traveling, building houses and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Aberg, Canby; and Debbie Bernhardt, Cupertino, Calif.; a son, Wayne Job, Canby; a brother, Harold Drake, Twin Falls, Idaho; and three grandchildren.

James ‘Ernie’ Cox
The funeral for James Ernest "Ernie" Cox will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Medford Masonic Temple on North Phoenix Road. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Cox, 92, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to any Masonic charity or to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.
He was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Garfield, Ark.
On Oct. 7, 1967, in Medford, he married Gladys Messal, who survives.
Mr. Cox worked in the Bremerton shipyards until 1944, when he moved to the Rogue Valley. He then worked for Bessonette Construction Company and then for Graft and James Construction for more than 25 years. He helped build Rogue Valley Medical Center, Providence Medford Medical Center, Scenic Middle School in Central Point, Briscoe School in Ashland and the Science Building at Southern Oregon University.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 66-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 2067, a past member of the R.V. Pairs (Good Sam RV Club) and the Crater Garden Club. He was a 50-year life member of the Warren Masonic Lodge, the Masonic Blue Lodge in Union City, Wash., the Scottish Rite Temple in Medford, the Hillah Temple Shrine (Wrecking crew), a life member and past Royal Patron of Amaranth, the Order of the Eastern Star, Reames Chapter, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Central Point.
Mr. Cox enjoyed woodcrafts, fishing and gardening and was known for his beer hotcake breakfasts.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three stepdaughters, Judy Klinzing and Glenna M. Stuart, both Central Point, and Linda Messal, Lake Oswego; a stepson, Jerry Stuart, Central Point; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; a daughter, Delores Malone; a brother, Amos; and one grandson.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at Conger-Morris in Medford.
Pearl Lorraine Stanford
Pearl Lorraine Stanford, 74, of Medford, died Aug. 27, 2000, at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Pullman, Wash.
On Dec. 11, 1977, in Reno, Nev., she married Richard Stanford, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950 from Washington.
Mrs. Stanford was a cook at Howard Prairie Resort for 14 years.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and embroidery.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Everett Church, Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Barbara L. Barreras and Karla J. Chambers, both Medford; a brother, Ross Cane, Spokane, Wash.; three sisters, Alice Kotke, Central Point, Janet Marshall, New Plymouth, Idaho, and Nola Jack, Round Mountain, Nev.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John Michael McCracken
John Michael McCracken, 56, of Ashland, died Friday (Sept. 8, 2000) at his home. A private memorial service is planned.

He was born March 21, 1944, in Grants Pass, a son of John Everett and Cecil Pearl (Trueblood) McCracken. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1962. In 1976, he graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University in Ashland.
On Oct. 30, 1987, in Gold Hill, he married Susan (Young) Fletcher, who survives.
Mr. McCracken served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. McCracken was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed target shooting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Shaun, Grants Pass; two stepsons, Matthew Brown-Fletcher, White City, and Jason Brown-Fletcher, Ashland; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Fletcher, Ashland, and Meegan Fletcher, Talent; a sister, Sharon Heston, Vancouver, Wash.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a grandson in October 1999.
