B. J. Thorpe
The graveside service for B. J. Thorpe will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Veterans for Veterans will officiate.
Mr. Thorpe, 65, of Trail, died Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) in Trail.
He was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Valliant, Okla., a son of H.G. and Lizzy Thorpe.
On March 14, 1959, in Sweet Home, he married Johnny Harris, who survives.
Mr. Thorpe was a timber faller for various logging companies in Eastern Oregon.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1963.
Mr. Thorpe moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995. He was a member of the Lions Club in Dale.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gun smithing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John, Trail; a daughter, Cindy Thorpe, Rapid City, S.D.; three brothers, Wayne, Roy and Troy; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Davis; and a grandson.

Donna Harriet Turgesen
The funeral for Donna Harriet Turgesen will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors in Portland. Interment will be at noon Sunday at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Mrs. Turgesen, 81, of Milwaukie, formerly of Ashland and Medford died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) in Portland, of cancer.
She was born Donna Lynum on Jan. 20, 1919, in Bremerton, Wash. She married John R. Turgesen, who died in 1983. She lived in Ashland in 1986, and in Medford from 1993-1997.
Mrs. Turgesen was a member of a nondenominational Christian church and the Sons of Norway.
Survivors include three sons, Joel, Medford, Paul, Amity, and Bryan, Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Jean Calvo, Ashland, and Margie Gibler, Portland; a sister, Lola Oliver, in California; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Kenneth O. Boyd
The memorial service for Kenneth O. Boyd will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Northridge Center, 3737 S. Pacific Highway, Medford.
Mr. Boyd, 92, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) in Medford.
He was born June 17, 1908, in Riverside, Calif. On July 9, 1937, in Long Beach, Calif., he married Guinevere Chaney, who died in 1999.
Mr. Boyd was an electrical engineer for North American Rockwell Industries, retiring in 1962. After his retirement, he entered into the ministry of the Foursquare Church on a full-time basis.
He enjoyed fixing electrical things.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Lippincott, Phoenix; a son, Dennis, Powell Butte; a sister, Rose Wagner, Seal Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Herbert Manson Harris
The memorial service for Herbert Manson Harris will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Rogue Valley in Ashland.
Mr. Harris, 83, of Ashland, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland, OR 97520.
He was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Herbert M. and Lillian Harris.
Mr. Harris was a history teacher. He lived in Ashland for five years, moving from Benicia, Calif.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Harris, Ashland; two sons, Darwin, Santa Cruz, Calif. and Brent, Lagunitas, Calif.; a daughter, Myra Harris, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Marilyn Kay Bland
The graveside service and interment for Marilyn Kay Bland will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kan.
Mrs. Bland, 55, of Elsah, Ill., formerly of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) in Eudora, Kan.

She was born Nov. 22, 1944, on a farm in Garfield County near Enid, Okla., a daughter of Clyde Murrel and Tennyson Irene (Welty) Bland. She graduated from Ottawa High School and Principia College in Elsah, Ill. She also received a master’s degree and doctorate in botany from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor..
Ms. Bland was an environmental ecologist for NUS, an engineering consulting firm in Pittsburgh. She also worked for SRI, an institute that was once a research arm of Stanford University at Palo Alto, Calif. She took an early retirement and moved to Medford. Later, she moved near Boulder, Colo., and then to Elsah, Ill, where she resided until she moved to Eudora.
She was a Christian Science practitioner and a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Elsah, Ill.
Survivors include two brothers, Murrel Bland, Kansas City, Kan., and Milton Bland, Eudora. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Tennyson Irene Bland.

Loretta May Van Houten
Loretta May Van Houten, 76, of White City, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born May 16, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kan., a daughter of Louis H. and Martha C. Curtis. On Aug. 3, 1957, in Ukiah, Calif., she married Cecil Van Houten, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Southern California and Salem.
Mrs. Van Houten enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses and tending her lawn.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Victor Van Houten, Murrieta, Calif., and Ronald Phillips, Medford; a sister, Caroline Conville, Rubidoux, Calif.; a brother, Earl Curtis, Beatty, Nev.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, who were killed in World War II; and four sisters.

Wanda Fadling
The memorial service for Wanda Fadling will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Brookings. Pastor Lamb will officiate.
Mrs. Fadling, 87, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Alterra Assisted Living in Medford.

She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Randle, Wash., a daughter of Bee and Molly Blankinship. On Jan. 20, 1946, she married Luke H. Fadling, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Fadling was a homemaker. She moved to Medford in January 2000.
She was a member of Topaz Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Fadling enjoyed reading, her yard and flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis, Medford, and Richard, Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Joanne Frazier, Nyssa; a brother, Glen Blankinship, Eureka, Calif.; three sisters, Claire Bonde, Brookings, Alma Matheson, Redding, Calif., and Arleta Sanders, Tacoma, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lyndle and Frank; a brother, Vernon Blankinship; and a granddaughter.
