Herbert Manson Harris
The memorial service for Herbert Manson Harris will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Rogue Valley in Ashland.
Mr. Harris, 83, of Ashland, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Herbert M. and Lillian Harris.
Mr. Harris was a history teacher. He lived in Ashland for five years, moving from Benicia, Calif.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Harris, Ashland; two sons, Darwin, Santa Cruz, Calif. and Brent, Lagunitas, Calif.; a daughter, Myra Harris, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Marilyn Kay Bland
The graveside service and interment for Marilyn Kay Bland will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kan.
Mrs. Bland, 55, of Elsah, Ill., formerly of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) in Eudora, Kan.

She was born Nov. 22, 1944, on a farm in Garfield County near Enid, Okla., a daughter of Clyde Murrel and Tennyson Irene (Welty) Bland. She graduated from Ottawa High School and Principia College in Elsah, Ill. She also received a master’s degree and doctorate in botany from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor..
Ms. Bland was an environmental ecologist for NUS, an engineering consulting firm in Pittsburgh. She also worked for SRI, an institute that was once a research arm of Stanford University at Palo Alto, Calif. She took an early retirement and moved to Medford. Later, she moved near Boulder, Colo., and then to Elsah, Ill, where she resided until she moved to Eudora.
She was a Christian Science practitioner and a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Elsah, Ill.
Survivors include two brothers, Murrel Bland, Kansas City, Kan., and Milton Bland, Eudora. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Tennyson Irene Bland.

Loretta May Van Houten
Loretta May Van Houten, 76, of White City, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
She was born May 16, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kan., a daughter of Louis H. and Martha C. Curtis. On Aug. 3, 1957, in Ukiah, Calif., she married Cecil Van Houten, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Southern California and Salem.
Mrs. Van Houten enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses and tending her lawn.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Victor Van Houten, Murrieta, Calif., and Ronald Phillips, Medford; a sister, Caroline Conville, Rubidoux, Calif.; a brother, Earl Curtis, Beatty, Nev.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, who were killed in World War II; and four sisters.

Wanda Fadling
The memorial service for Wanda Fadling will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Brookings. Pastor Lamb will officiate.
Mrs. Fadling, 87, of Medford, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Alterra Assisted Living in Medford.

She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Randle, Wash., a daughter of Bee and Molly Blankinship. On Jan. 20, 1946, she married Luke H. Fadling, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Fadling was a homemaker. She moved to Medford in January 2000.
She was a member of Topaz Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Fadling enjoyed reading, her yard and flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis, Medford, and Richard, Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Joanne Frazier, Nyssa; a brother, Glen Blankinship, Eureka, Calif.; three sisters, Claire Bonde, Brookings, Alma Matheson, Redding, Calif., and Arleta Sanders, Tacoma, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lyndle and Frank; a brother, Vernon Blankinship; and a granddaughter.

Mary Jane Allen Koelle
Mary Jane Allen Koelle, 67, of Phoenix, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

Originally from Allentown, N.J., she graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
Mrs. Koelle was a journalist at the Doylestown Intelligencer. She also worked for the Tuberculosis Association in Philadelphia and San Francisco.
She moved to Phoenix in 1973, where she owned and operated an antiques business.
Mrs. Koelle served as a Phoenix City Council member for many years and was active in various civic organizations.
Survivors include a brother, Andrew J. Allen, Hamilton, N.J.; a sister, Janet A. Altman, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and the children and grandchildren of her husband, Richard H. Koelle, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy Joy Carr
The graveside service for Dorothy Joy Carr will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River. A reception will follow in Rogue River.
Mrs. Carr, 97, of Scio, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton.

She was born Dorothy Joy Pennington on Jan. 20, 1903, in Houston. On Dec. 25, 1930, in Carson City, Nev., she married Carl Butler Carr, who died in 1997. She moved to Rogue River in 1977 from Los Altos, Calif., and to Scio in July 1998.
Mrs. Carr was a member of the Rogue River Garden Club and of a bunco club. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Roger P., Walnut Grove, Calif.; a daughter Molly A. Erkson, Scio; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gordon Roger Olsen
The funeral Mass for Gordon Roger Olsen will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The Rev. Liam Cary will officiate. The graveside service will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Olsen, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in St. Paul, Minn. On March 23, 1940, in St. Paul, Minn., he married Anna Elizabeth Onisko, who survives.
Mr. Olsen worked at Lockheed Aircraft in California, where he assembled P-38 fighter planes during World War II. In 1946, he moved to Oregon and worked as a millwright in White City. He then moved to Brookings in 1953, where he owned and operated an appliance store. In 1968, he moved to Eugene, where he lived until his retirement in 1979. For 13 years he wintered in Arizona, where he worked in maintenance for Mesa Verde National Park. He returned to Medford in 1992.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mr. Olsen enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Mary Ann Smith, Medford, Barbara Olsen, Phoenix, Ariz., and Kathie Leonard, Prineville; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Malcolm and Edwin; and one great-grandson.
