Joseph Charles Cerniglia
Joseph Charles Cerniglia, 48, of Central Point, died Sept. 25, 2000, in Central Point. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 2, 1952, in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., a son of Charles and Mary Cerniglia. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Berkeley, Calif.
Mr. Cerniglia was a musician and piano teacher. He accompanied choirs at Scenic Middle School and Crater High School.
He enjoyed designing computer Web pages.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Cerniglia, Phoenix; and two brothers, Charlie, Monte Rio, Calif., and Don, in New Jersey.

Richard H. Berman
A memorial service for Richard Hilliard Berman will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Emek Shalom, 1801 E. Main St., Ashland. Rabbi Marc Sirinsky will officiate.
Mr. Berman, 36, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at his home.

Mr. Berman was born Nov. 17, 1963, in Phoenix, Ariz. On Sept. 7, 1990, in Portland, he married Sydney Swope, who survives.
He had lived in the Rogue Valley for six years, moving from Guam in 1993. Mr. Berman was a 1979 graduate of Suarro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. He attended Northwestern University for two years and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He earned a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was editor of Ecology Law Quarterly while a student.
He clerked for the Oregon Court of Appeals in Salem in 1988 and joined the Portland law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in 1990. He worked for the Medford firm Hornecker, Cowling, Hasson and Heysell and for Plexis Healthcare Systems in Ashland.
Mr. Berman was a member of Temple Emek Shalom and the Oregon Bar Association. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hiking and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Arielle and Eva, both of Medford; his father, Mack Berman, of Medford; a brother, Ronald Berman of Gahanna, Ohio; five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Berman, who died in July.

Donald ‘Buck’ Lawrence
The graveside service for Donald H. "Buck" Lawrence will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain Wayne Bell of the White City Domiciliary will officiate.
Mr. Lawrence, 72, of White City, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2000) at his home.
He was born June 1, 1928, in Lamar, Colo. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1968.
Mr. Lawrence was a truck driver in the Medford area.
He was a member of the Eagle Point Assembly of God.
Mr. Lawrence enjoyed racing cars, hunting, fishing and lunches with his friends at St. Vincent de Paul.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Conger-Morris in Medford.
Donald Eugene Lash
The memorial service for Donald Eugene Lash will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church in Medford. Dr. William MacDonald will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Mr. Lash, 82, of Jacksonville, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) in Medford.
He was born July 27, 1918, in Lincoln, Neb. The family moved to the Los Angeles area, where he spent most of his life. In the early 1930s, he moved with his parents to Southern Oregon, where he attended Griffin Creek Elementary School and his first year of high school in Jacksonville. They then moved back to Southern California, where he completed his schooling.
In 1941, in Las Vegas, he married Dorothy Roudebush, who survives.
Mr. Lash was a lithographer at Hemphill District School, North America School, Industrial Lithos and Metropolitan Water District.
He retired from the Metropolitan Water District in the 1970s and went into the Ministry of the United Methodist Church. He served in Glendale and San Fernando Valley churches until his retirement in 1987, when he moved to Jacksonville.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps with the Matere al Command for three years.
In Jacksonville, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Medford, the Southern Oregon Historical Society, and the Booster Club of Jacksonville. In California, he was a member of the American Legion of Glendale, Calif., and the California Pacific Conference of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Frank, San Bernardino, Calif.; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Olive Buelah Looney
Olive Buelah Looney, 94, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at her home. A private memorial service will be held.
She was born Olive Clary on Aug. 10, 1906, in Calm, Mo. On Sept. 9, 1923, she married Ayzial Looney, who died in 1987.
Mrs. Looney was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Escondido, Calif.
She enjoyed oil painting and quilting.
Survivors include a son, Harold, Medford; two sisters, Marie Taylor, and Aleen Snyder, both in Southern California; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Inche; and a sister, Loreen.

Flossie Pellett Spence
Flossie Pellett Spence, 90, of Rogue River, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Scottsbluff, Neb., a daughter of Andrew J. and Aurora (Eichelberger) Hughes. In 1981, in Reno, Nev., she married Russell Spence, who died in 1994. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Woodland, Calif., and lived in Grants Pass from 1950-1984, when she moved to Rogue River.
Mrs. Spence worked as a dry cleaner and as a beautician.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bingo and cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Berry, Medford; a brother, David Hughes, Eugene; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Pellett, in 1980; her second husband, Russell Spence, in 1994; and her son, Robert Pellett.

Luther ‘Sonny’ Jacobson
The family and friends of Luther M. "Sonny" Jacobson Sr. will gather for an open house all day Saturday at his home.
Mr. Jacobson, 77, of White City, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Medford, a son of Albert and Elizabeth (Trefren) Jacobson. On Feb. 14, 1946, in Shanghai, China, he married Olga Castro, who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.
Mr. Jacobson was a logger and small engine mechanic.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Jacobson was a hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working in his yard.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Linda Cutting, White City; two sons, Luther Jr., Salem; and Patrick, White City; a sister, Mary Vail, Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy Johns, Betty Hart and Philena Cleveland.
