Doris LaVeta Horsley
The graveside service for Doris LaVeta Horsley will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Rev. David Croy, retired, Medford First Baptist Church, will officiate.
Mrs. Horsley, 73, of Medford, died Thursday (March 9, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Doris Webb on Aug. 12, 1926, in Chandler, Okla.
On Oct. 6, 1954, in Reno, Nev., she married I.R. "Bob" Horsley, who died in 1995. She moved to the Rogue Valley 38 years ago from Los Angeles.
Mrs. Horsley wa a homemaker all her life.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medford and the White City Christian Church, where she enjoyed singing in a gospel trio and in church.
Mrs. Horsley enjoyed reading, her family, and cooking and canning vegetables from the garden.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Horsley, Central Point, Ken Himes, Corvallis, and Dale Himes, Portland; four daughters, Iline Koehler, Medford, Anne Young, El Segundo, Calif., Cathi Martin, Chico, Calif., and Jean Perdue, in Washington; two brothers, Lyman Webb, Spokane, Wash.; and Ronald Webb, Los Angeles; two sisters, Betty Krahmer, Jacksonville, and Arlene Himes, Fullerton, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy, in 1994; a brother and three sisters.

Dorothy Ann Biggar
Dorothy Ann Biggar, 88, of Central Point, died Friday (March 10, 2000) at her home. The memorial service will be held later.
She was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Kent, Wash., a daughter of Percy Alvan and Josephine Mary Beatrice (Cody) York.
On Feb. 25, 1928, in Tacoma, Wash., she married Donald James Biggar, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Spangle, Wash., where they lived for 25 years.
Mrs. Biggar was a member of the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford.
She enjoyed reading, music, gardening and her family.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Donna Marie Tschetter, Buffalo, Wyo., Diane June Taylor, Saint Helena, Calif., and Dixie Louise Plata, Central Point; three sons, Duane Everet, Waterville, Wash., David Edwin, Glasgow, Mont., and Dale Linden, Everett, Wash; a sister, Ruth Agnes Rohlinger, Suquamish, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Garth Orville, in 1993; and a daughter, Delia Ann Leeper, in 1970.

Elga Warren Abbott
The graveside service for Elga Warren Abbott will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Butte Falls Cemetery. Pastor John Adams of Community Bible Church will officiate.
Mr. Abbott, 97, of Butte Falls, died Friday (March 10, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1902, in Phoenix, a son of William and Laura (Lowe) Abbott. He was raised on the family ranch on Cobleigh Road in Butte Falls. His parents owned a home in Eagle Point so their children could attend school and he attended grade school and high school in Eagle Point. His father was killed in a logging accident in 1906.
On Aug. 12, 1933, in Jacksonville, he married Emogene M. Edmondson, who died in 1998.
Mr. Abbott was employed by the Forest Service, PPL, and helped in the construction of Diamond Lake Highway. In 1936, he began work as a timber faller for Medford Corporation, retiring in 1964.
He lived in Butte Falls for more than 90 years and was awarded the title of Local Historian of Butte Falls. He was the mayor of Butte Falls from 1960 to 1972, and served as a councilman for eight years.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Abbott, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bill Hartlerode, Central Point; two daughters, Beth Hartlerode, Central Point, and Karen Abbott, Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, who died at birth; and eight siblings.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Butte Falls Community CHurch.

Harold Glenn May Jr.
The graveside service for Harold Glenn May Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. May, 58, of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 19, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
Agnes E. King
Agnes Emily King, 80, of Medford, died March 24, 2000 at Providence Hospital. A private family service is planned at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.
She was born January 26, 1920 in Ashland and has lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.
Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home of Ashland.
Dean Chalfant
Dean Chalfant, 51, of White City, died Sept. 20, 2000, in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born April 3, 1949, in Chicago, a son of Glen and Rita Chalfant. He moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago.
Mr. Chalfant was a logger.
He was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include his mother, Rita R. Chalfant, Oak Forest, Ill.; and a brother, Mark, Oak Forest, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen.

Bertie Lee Hutton
The memorial service for Bertie Lee Hutton will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Central Point Senior Center. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hutton, 90, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Hearthstone.
She was born Roberta Lee Francis Hayward on March 10, 1910, a daughter of Frank and Ellen Rosebury Hayward. Her mother died when she was 13, and she lived with a sister until her father took her to live in Oklahoma with an Indian family. They then moved back to Lebanon, Mo.
On April 20, 1932, in Waynesville, Mo., she married Louis Elbert Hutton, who died in 1970. They lived in Lebanon until 1935, when they moved to Phoenix. They moved to Central Point in the mid-1960s.
Mrs. Hutton gardened and raised cows. She also worked in the fruit packing plants during the summer. Following her husband’s death, she lived alone until ill health forced her to move to Hearthstone.

Ralph E. Hibbs
The memorial service for Dr. Ralph E. Hibbs will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Rogue Room of the new Rogue Manor Skyline Plaza building. Pastor Alan Jackson of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Dr. Hibbs, 87, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 1, 2000) at his home.

He was born July 23, 1913, in Hiteman, Iowa, a son of Newton and Laura (Swan) Hibbs. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. In 1936, he received a medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical School.
On March 31, 1946, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, he married Jeanne Howard, who died in 1946. He moved to the Rogue Valley around 1950.
On Nov. 30, 1991, in Medford, he married Virginia (Moffett) Caldwell, who survives.
Dr. Hibbs was a physician and a founding member of Doctor’s Clinic in Medford. He retired from Doctor’s Clinic in 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was appointed chief surgeon of the 31st Battalion and was stationed with a medical detachment near Manila. He was one of 60, 000 American prisoners who started on the 70-mile Bataan Death March in 1942. He was also the author of "Tell MacArthur to Wait, " a book about surviving a POW camp in the Philippines.
Dr. Hibbs was president of the Oregon State Board of Medical Examiners from 1978-79. He was a founding member of the Medford Linebackers and was a member and Past Grand Master of Medford Elks Lodge No. 1168. He was also a member of the University Club and was an active member of Toastmasters.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, travel, tennis and golf.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Jack, Florence, and Stephen, Orangevale, Calif.; two daughters, Jill Hibbs, Beaverton, and Jennifer Eastberg, Oregon City; a stepson, Drew Fletcher, Ashland; a sister, Elizabeth Blagg, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, David; and a sister, Virginia Collier.
