Agnes M. Shafer

A celebration of life service for Agnes M. Shafer will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church.

Mrs. Shafer, 79, of Medford, died Friday (March 17, 2000).

She was born July 2, 1920, in Chester, Penn.

In 1941, she married Price Shafer, who died in 1999.

Mrs. Shafer was a teacher in the Medford school district and she specialized in early childhood education.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Medford Garden Club, the Master Gardener Association of Jackson County, Southern Oregon Antique and Collectible Club, National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts and the Evening Mini-Crafters of Medford. She also volunteered at the Rogue Galley and Art Center and the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur Dunford of Paul, Idaho; six sons, Howard, Reno, Nev., John, Moro, Frank, Elkton, Daniel, Butte Falls, and Brian and Steven, Medford; two daughters, Priscilla Gibbens, Chico, Calif., and Patricia Scruggs, Portland; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Alva N. "Al" Bradford

Alva N. "Al" Bradford, a longtime Medford postmaster and city councilman, died Thursday in Eugene of cancer.

He was 80.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, in Eugene.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Hospice, 1121 Fairfield Ave., Eugene, OR 97402.

Mr. Bradford was born March 10, 1920, in Shirley, Ark., a son of Phillip and Dovie (Cullum) Bradford.

In 1948, in Medford, he married Joyce Fraley, who survives. He lived in Medford from 1947 to 1981.

Mr. Bradford was the Medford postmaster from 1963 to 1981, and the Eugene postmaster from 1981 to 1987.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Bradford was a member of the Medford City Council from 1954 to 1963. He was a member of the Kiwanis, and was a longtime member of the Toastmasters in Medford and Eugene.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Mr. Bradford enjoyed photography, music and the arts.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Nina Bradford-Bennett, Estacada, Thia Gilpin, Portland, and Alva Bradford, Oak Grove; two brothers, Zane, Houston, and Louis, Shreveport, La.; three sisters, Mildred Gadberry, Greers Ferry, Ark., Erma Brosamer, Crockett, Calif., and Vera Gage, Tahlequah, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Frank R. Stuchel

Frank Raymond Stuchel, 95, of Ashland, died Sunday (March 12, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital. A private service will be held.

He was born May 27, 1904, in Cleveland. He was raised in Cleveland, where he began his trade at the age of 15 to assist his family. He attended night school to earn his high school degree.

On Oct. 19, 1956, in Brecksville, Ohio, he married Helen Marie "Mimi" Horton, who survives.

Mr. Stuchel was an industrial electrical contractor with Dingle-Clark Co., where he supervised large construction projects such as steel mills and oil refineries. He retired in 1965, after a 46-year career. In the late 1960s and early 70s, he returned to work and was the chief electrician at Children's Hospital in San Francisco. He lived in San Rafael, Calif., before moving to Ashland in 1976.

In his younger days, Mr. Stuchel performed in "Little Theatre" and minstrel shows. He was noted for his dramatic recitation of ``The Lehigh Valley."

He was a 75-year member of Local Union 38 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Mr. Stuchel enjoyed gardening, remodeling and handyman projects, birds and his cat, Domino.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Randy Watt, Ashland; and a daughter, Noelle Watt, Walnut Creek, Calif.

Simeon E. Holliman

The funeral for Simeon Esaias Holliman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. Interment will be in Indian Valley Cemetery in Greenville, Calif.

Mr. Holliman, 85, of Medford, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Living Praise Tabernacle, 115 Gibbon Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born July 3, 1914, in Gulfport, Miss., a son of John and Meccolena (Hoffman) Holliman.

On May 30, 1936, in Gulfport, Miss., he married Lottie Greenwood, who died in 1992.

Mr. Holliman was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenter's Union. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Greenville, Calif.

He enjoyed playing his fiddle, gardening and recycling.

Survivors include four sons, Winfred, Medford, Scottie, Gold Hill, Wallace, Clarkston, Wash., and Charles, Grangeville, Idaho; three daughters, Patsy Miller, Medford, Elouise Stevenson, Oroville, Calif., and Madeline Churruca, Chico, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ann, in 1972.

Paul `Pete' Senge

The memorial service for Paul E. "Pete" Senge will be at 4 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland. Interment will in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. The Rev. Michael Powell of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mr. Senge, 88, of Ashland, died March 5, 2000, at Skylark Extended Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Jan. 10, 1912, in Chicago.

In 1933, he married Dorothy Kochler, who survives.

Mr. Senge settled in Southern California in 1952, where he worked in the film processing department at Buletor Company, which later was purchased by Kodak. He later became a sales representative for film processing services for Kodak and traveled through the southern half of California. He moved to Ashland following his retirement in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the V-Mail Division which converted letters sent to military personnel into photographic film, which eased the transportation of letters.

Mr. Senge enjoyed playing chess and poker, dancing and playing the saxophone.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Peter, Sterling, Mass.; and two grandchildren.

Patrick J. Goody

Patrick Joseph Goody, 65, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Feb. 19, 1935, in Spokane, Wash. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Chehalis, Wash.

Mr. Goody was a helicopter mechanic for Croman Corporation for nine years, retiring in 1997.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958.

Mr. Goody attended the Catholic church at the White City Veterans Affairs Domiciliary.

He enjoyed hang gliding and flying.

Survivors include three daughters, Gennifer Hill, San Leandro, Calif., Carrie Kamers, Tracy, Calif., and Marla Goody, El Segundo, Calif.; a son, Jim, Riverbank, Calif.; a brother, Clifford, Red Bluff, Calif.; a sister, Donna Ponte, Pleasanton, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Juanita D. Odell

Juanita D. Odell, 71, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Los Angeles, a daughter of Louis E. and Bernice (Hummel) Patzack. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from California.

On March 2, 1979, in Medford, she married Robert L. Odell, who died in 1999.

Mrs. Odell was a deputy sheriff in Jackson County. She also worked as a counselor with the Washington State School for the Deaf.

She enjoyed travel, sports and homemaking.

Survivors include two sons, Jay F. Paul, Seaside, and Robert Odell, Medford; a daughter, Jodi A. Paul, Portland; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John R. Smith; and a brother, Ray Alldritt, in 1999.
