Wesley O. Vandewark
The graveside service for Wesley Oliver Vandewark will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Christopher of St. Mark's Episcopal Church will officiate.
Mr. Vandewark, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 21, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

He was born May 3, 1919, in Choteau, Mont., a son of Harry and Opal Vandewark and a descendant of early Montana settlers. He graduated from high school in Billings, Mont.
On Jan. 2, 1943, in Billings, he married Betty Blodgett, who survives.
Mr. Vandewark was an aircraft maintenance inspector for the Federal Aviation Agency for 32 years, retiring in 1974. He worked for many years in Billings, Mont., Denver and Portland, where he was the G.A.D.O. (General Aviation District Office) chief for the F.A.A. He moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Portland.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater and received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Mr. Vandewark received the Department of Transportation F.A.A. Distinguished Service Award in 1984.
He was a member of the QB's and the Medford Experimental Aircraft Association. He was also a volunteer in the inspection of home-built aircraft in Southern Oregon.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Carol Nichols, Crescent City, Calif.; and three grandsons.

Dorothy K. Senge
Dorothy K. Senge, 87, of Ashland, died Monday (March 20, 2000) at Ashland Community Hospital.
The memorial service for Dorothy K. Senge and Paul "Pete" Senge was held Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland. The Rev. Michael Powell officiated. Interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park.
She was born Sept. 3, 1912, in Chicago, a daughter of Mathilda and Alfred Koehler.
In 1933, she married Paul E. Senge, who died March 5, 2000. They moved to Southern California in 1952, and to Ashland in 1989.
Mrs. Senge managed a public school system cafeteria in Southern California.
Survivors include a son, Peter, Sterling, Mass.; and two grandchildren.

Jack `Duane' Johnson
The graveside service for Jack "Duane" Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Everett Denniston of Merlin Community Church will officiate.
Mr. Johnson, 75, of Medford, died March 15, 2000, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

He was born June 14, 1924, in Dodge City, Kan., a son of Lee Edwin and Jessie L. (Dismukes) Johnson.
On Dec. 24, 1947, in Ketchum, Idaho, he married Betty Frances Shipp, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Idaho in 1965.
Mr. Johnson was an auto dealer in the retail sales industry. He retired as the owner of Motor City of Phoenix, Inc. He was a local Mail Tribune carrier.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended a YMCA aerobic class and enjoyed traveling and family activities.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Greg, Medford, and Gary, Grants Pass; a daughter, Pam Schwietert, Grants Pass; and six grandchildren.

Mildred R. Sessions
Friends of Mildred Rose Sessions are invited to an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at 121 Union St., Ashland.
Mrs. Sessions, 83, of Ashland, died Tuesday (March 21, 2000) at Skylark Assisted Living Center in Ashland.

She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Coos Bay, a daughter of Aina and Otto Rickter. She was raised in Coos Bay and moved to Ashland in 1936, where she attended Southern Oregon Normal School.
On Dec. 22, 1947, in Grants Pass, she married Gerald Sessions, who survives.
Mrs. Sessions was a homemaker and volunteer.
She was active with the American Red Cross blood drive program.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Judy Hale, Medford; a son, Jerry Lynn, La Grande; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Shari D. Miller
A celebration of the life of Shari D. Miller will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the home of her cousins, Dee and Ron Moore, 3443 Ross Lane, Central Point.
Ms. Miller, 52, of Medford, died Sunday (March 19, 2000) at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Her ashes will be scattered throughout her favorite places.

She was born April 15, 1947, in San Jose, Calif., and moved to the Rogue Valley from San Jose in 1981. She received a master's degree in psychology and criminology from what is now Southern Oregon University.
Ms. Miller was a probation officer for the Department of Corrections. At the time of her death, she was a caseworker for Services to Children and Families.
She enjoyed her dogs, gardening and the outdoors.
Survivors include a sister, Penni Viets, Aptos, Calif.; and her mother, Edna Silcott, Aptos, Calif.

Joseph Conley Phipps
Joseph Conley Phipps, 83, of Medford, formerly of San Diego, died Friday (March 17, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Kingsport, Tenn., a son of Joe Mack and Margaret Isabella Phipps. In 1937, during his senior year, he was the captain and selectee of the Bristol Tennessee High School basketball team, which won the first-ever state championship.
On Nov. 11, 1962, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Mary Ann Auvacha, who died in 1999.
After attending Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning School, Mr. Phipps worked in construction as chief estimator in Class A Construction for 48 years, building skyscraper, industrial buildings and sports arenas. He also worked for Trepte Construction in San Diego. He moved to Medford following his retirement in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1938 to 1945, aboard destroyers and transports.
Mr. Phipps was active in civic groups, such as the P.O.E.T.S. Society.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen C. Stefonowicz, Denver, and Michael J. Briggs, El Cajon, Calif.; a brother, Mac A., Richlands, Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Agnes M. Shafer
Agnes M. Shafer, 79, of Medford, died Friday (March 17, 2000) at her home. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, March 21, at the First Christian Church in Medford.
She was born July 2, 1920, in Chester, Pa. A long-time Medford resident, she graduated from Medford High School in 1938.
On Sept. 25, 1940, she married Price Shafer, who died in 1999.
Mrs. Shafer earned a bachelor of science degree in education in 1973 from what is now Southern Oregon University. She taught school for several years, specializing in early childhood education.
She was a member of the Medford Garden Club, the Master Gardener Association of Jackson County, Southern Oregon Antique and Collectible Club, National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, and the Evening Mini-Crafters of Medford. She was a volunteer at the Rogue Galley and Art Center and the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary.
Mrs. Shafer was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Medford.
Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Gibbens, Chico, Calif., and Patricia Scruggs, Portland; six sons, Brian, Medford, Stephen, Eagle Point, Daniel, Butte Falls, John, Moro, Frank, Elkton, and Howard, Reno, Nev.; a brother, Arthur Dunford, Paul, Idaho; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
