John Charles Lyons

John Charles Lyons, 76, of Coos Bay, formerly of Medford, died March 17, 2000, in Coos Bay. No service is planned.

He was born June 2, 1923, in Minneapolis, a son of Leonard S. and Emily Ann Lyons. He lived in Medford from age 2 until after his World War II service, when he moved to Coos Bay.

Mr. Lyons worked for McDonald's Wholesalers in Coos Bay until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Carole, Coos Bay; six sisters, Evelyn Bryan and Florence Shores, both Medford, Ellen Gifford, Phoenix, Elizabeth Orr, Central Point, Ruth Kelso, Eugene, and Billie Ann Hueners, Milwaukie; and a brother, Gerald, Junction City. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cloie Martin; and two brothers, Leonard and Robert.

Arrangements: North Bend Chapel.

`Mary Lou' Wagar

The graveside service for Marion Louise "Mary Lou" Wagar will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Bunny Oliver of Medford Congregational Church will officiate.

Mrs. Wagar, 73, of Medford, died Thursday (March 23, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Garden Grove, Calif., a daughter of Thomas W. and Audrey Alena Swoape. She graduated from Medford High School in 1945, and was the majorette of the Medford High School Band in 1944 and 1945.

On Aug. 6, 1947, in Medford, she married Mitchell Gordon Wagar, who died in 1990.

Mrs. Wagar worked for Pacific Northwest Bell in Medford.

She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include a son, Jerry L., Redding, Calif.; her mother, Audrey Alena Swoape, Medford; two sisters, Lorraine McCurley, and Thomasine E. Smith, both Medford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gordon.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Cynthia Lucille Giles

Cynthia Lucille Giles, 40, of Talent, died March 13, 2000, at University Hospital in Portland. A private service is planned.

She was born April 20, 1959, in Cincinnati, a daughter of Richard and Margaret Rabenneck. She graduated from Apollo High School in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mrs. Giles was a cashier at the 98 Cent Store.

She did volunteer work in the gay and lesbian community.

Mrs. Giles enjoyed making stained glass, caring for animals and sign language.

Survivors include a son, Nathan Giles, Phoenix; a daughter, Cortney Giles, Phoenix; her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Donald Huard, Prescott, Ariz.; and a brother, Keith Rabenneck, Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Rabenneck; and a sister, Deby Taylor.

Arrangements: Autumn Funeral Home & Crematory, Tigard.

Lila `Virginia' Fortner

The graveside service for Lila "Virginia" Fortner will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina, Calif.

Mrs. Fortner, 80, of White City, died Wednesday (March 22, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

She was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Fontana, Calif., a daughter of Charles and Anna Shoup Price. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 from Riverside, Calif.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Zelich, Medford, Barbara Cox, Riverside, Calif., and Juanita Hurst, Claremore, Okla.; a son, Leonard Bodkins, Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Margie Jennings, Riverside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Bodkins, in 1972; and her second husband, John Fortner, in 1990.

Jesse Alan Boulton

Jesse Alan Boulton, 103, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 22, 2000) at Count Your Blessings Foster Home in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born July 17, 1896, in Holden, Mo. He received a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri.

On June 3, 1928, in Knob Noster, Mo., he married Audrey Jenks, who survives.

Mr. Boulton taught high school science classes for more than 30 years in Dallas, Texas. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Dallas in 1994.

During World War I, he served in the Canadian Army from 1916 to 1918, and in the U.S. Army from 1922 to 1924.

Mr. Boulton was a longtime member of the Dallas Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, dancing, reading and travel.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey, Dallas, Texas; a son, David A., Medford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Vance, and Jeffrey Noel; two brothers; and two sisters.

Lee Bray

Lee Bray, 78, of Redding, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Feb. 26, 2000, at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Medford, a son of Dr. Jouett P. and Bernice A. Bray. He graduated from Medford High School in 1937. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1946 to 1957, and moved to Shasta County from Red Bluff, Calif., in 1957.

He married Kathryn Gray, who survives.

Mr. Bray was an electrical engineering technician with the U.S. Forest Service. In Medford, he worked for Trowbridge and Flynn Electric. He moved to Redding to open a Trowbridge Electric Branch division.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Bray was a member of Fairfield Lodge No. 55 F&AM, Ben Ali Shrine in Sacramento, Calif., and the Nor Cal Shrine Club in Redding.

He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Linda Gifford, Anchorage, Alaska, Lorna Gowan, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Loreli Cahill, Belen, N.M.; four brothers, Paul, Medford, Max, Phoenix, Bill, Claremont, Calif., and Robert, Redding; two sisters, Peggy George, Ashland, and Nancy Robinson, Prospect, Conn.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Philip and Eugene; and a sister, Kathleen Lundy.

Arrangements: McDonald's Redding Chapel, Calif.

Gertrude Sadie Brown

Gertrude Sadie Brown, 98, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 22, 2000) at her home. A private service will be held in Red Bluff, Calif. The Rev. Paul Brown of Shepherd's Community Church in Canoga Park, Calif., will officiate. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Nazarene Church, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born July 20, 1901, in Topeka, Kan.

In 1919, in Topeka, Kan., she married Bryan Jennings Brown, who preceded her in death. She lived in Holtville, Calif., for more than 50 years. She lived in Watsonville, Calif., until 1968, when she moved to Medford.

In Medford, Mrs. Brown was a cook for Associated Fruits, retiring at the age of 85.

She was a member of the First Nazarene Church.

Mrs. Brown enjoyed crocheting, doll making and ceramics.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Medford; four daughters, Gertie Wilcox and Pauline Weaver, both Medford, Doris Portwood, Jacksonville, and Thelma Sudduth, Red Bluff; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children; two brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
