Eugene 'Gene' E. Chase
Eugene "Gene" E. Chase passed away at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, CA, on Thursday, September 2, 2004, from complications following heart transplant surgery.

He was 69.

He is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 28 years; daughter, Kimberly O'Mahoney of Dover NH; sons, Eugene "Geno" A. Chase of San Diego, CA; Derek E., Chase and Christian J. Chase, of Novato, CA; six grandchildren and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Gene was born December 26, 1934 in Randolph, Vermont to Mary (Downing) and Raymond E. Chase, the oldest of seven children.

He was raised on the family farm until graduation from high school.

He served 3 years in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers attaining the rank of Sergeant with final service at the Presidio in San Francisco.

Upon discharge in 1955, he began a 37-year career in the printing industry in San Francisco while attending night school at San Francisco State University.

He worked for Schmidt Lithograph for 8 years, Pacific Lithograph for 26 years where, as one of its first employees, he helped the company grow from a tiny printer to the largest commercial printing company in Northern California, retiring from there in 1989 as Executive Vice President.

He worked 3 more years at Advanced Lithograph before moving to Southern Oregon in 1993.

There, he and his wife, Jean, owned and operated two used bookstores, Jacksonville Books, in Jacksonville, OR, and later, Shakespeare & Company Books in Ashland, OR for a total of 9 years. He last resided in Medford, OR.

A private memorial gathering will be held in California and interment is planned for the spring of 2005 at the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT that is adjacent to the old family farm now held in the National Land Trust.

Contributions in Gene's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Southern Oregon at 10 Crater Lake Ave., Medford OR 97504.

Mary Louise Mayberry
Mary Louise Mayberry, 84, died September 5, 2004. She was born in Mesa Arizona on October 13, 1919.

She was the fourth child and third daughter of Charles Edward and Pearl (MacKenzie) Roberson. The family moved to Oregon, eventually settling in Ashland.

The Roberson children eventually came to number 10, with nine living to adulthood.

While in grade school, Mary began playing violin and exhibited a truly remarkable talent.

As a teenager, she was asked to play in the Orchestra for the first Oregon Shakespearean Festival.

She graduated from Ashland High School and on June 29, 1937 she married Howard H. Mayberry, who died in 1983.

In 1946 Mary and Howard moved to Portland; they later moved to Eugene in 1958 where Howard was chief dispatcher for the S. P. Railroad until his retirement.

In 1959 Mary attended business school and subsequently went to work for Farmer's Insurance, where she remained until her retirement. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Eugene for more than 40-yrs.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Martin Croney, of Bend, son Howard Lynn and son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Carrolle, all of Springfield, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Venita and Tom Frey, brother and sister-in-law, Winfield and Pat Roberson, sister-in-law Wanda Davis, brothers-in-law Joe Burdic and Bill Burdic, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 777 Coburg Rd, Eugene, OR 97401. Remembrances may be sent to the youth ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church, at the above address.

Major Family Funeral Home, of Springfield, will be handling the arrangements.

Ned W. Barraclough

Private family services will be held for Ned William Barraclough, 79, of Ashland, who died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the Ashland Community Hospital.

He was born September 8, 1924 at Beaver, Utah the son of Nancy and Ambrose Barraclough. He moved as a child to Ashland where he graduated from Ashland High School.

During World War II he served in the United States Army.

On February 14, 1946 at Medford, He married the former Shirley Mae Harden who preceded him in death. He worked in the construction trade and owned Barraclough Construction for many years. He retired in 1994. Mr. Barraclough was also a representative for Lodge Logs.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to read.

Surviving are: two sons, Terry Barraclough of San Diego, CA and Randy Barraclough of Ashland; one brother Nile G. Barraclough of Santa Clara, CA; and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Riley Barraclough of Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels Inc., 110 East Main Street, Ashland, Oregon 97520.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Vona Lee Nyjordet

The gravesite service for Vona Lee Nyjordet will be at 12:30 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 16, at Jacksonville Cemetery. Lama Pema Clark will officiate.

Ms. Nyjordet, 55, died Sept. 9, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to, the KSC Buddist Meditation Ctr, 147 Granite St., Ashland, OR, or a charity of your choice.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1949 in Ashland, OR, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Addy. She lived in the Rogue Valley since May 1997.

Ms. Nyjordet worked at Medford Disability Office as a Case Manager.

She enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing, camping, music, reading and writing.

Survivors include her former husband, Barry Nyjordet of Pensacola, FL; her mother, Connie Mortenson of Chico, CA; one son, Philip Nyjordet of AR; two sisters, Val McClung of Fortuna, CA, Vicki Bullene of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Rick Addy of Fortuna, CA. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Addy, and brother Mickey Addy.

A gathering immediately following the service will be at the Bella Union, 170 W. Calif, St., Jacksonville.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Dorothy Jane Galante
A memorial service for Dorothy Jane Galante will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at the Eagle Point Assembly of God Church. Private inurnment will be Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Galante, 85, of Medford (formerly of Ashland) died Sept. 4, 2004 at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Oregon Kidney Association, P.O. Box 222, Portland, OR.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1918 in Morehouse, MO to Edward and Ella (Harp) Mocabee. She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Tigard, OR.

Mrs. Galante was a homemaker.

She enjoyed oil painting, cooking bowling, and watching the San Francisco 49'era and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Survivors include her dauaghter, Kate Galante of Costa Rica; her son, Wayne Galante of Hawaii; her brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Goldie Mocabee of North Bend, OR; and her brother, Robert Mocabee of Sparks, NV.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
