Dorothy E. Callaway

Dorothy Elizabeth Callaway, 73, of Medford, died Sunday (April 2, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. The memorial service was held Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. The Rev. William Dillard of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Commission for the Blind, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dorothy Harrison on Oct. 2, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 from Antioch, Calif.

Ms. Callaway was a volunteer at Fresno Community Hospital.

She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, watching figure skating on television and family gatherings.

Survivors include two sons, James Ratcliffe, in Kentucky, and Edwin J. Yahn, Bethel Island, Calif.; two daughters, Theresa Cook, Eldon, Mo., and Kathryn Whitney, Medford; two sisters, Stella Rodriques, in California, and Virginia Pritcherale, in Utah; two brothers, Dennis Reed, in Utah, and Bill Harrison, in California; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Baker.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Maurice N. Hager

The graveside service for Maurice N. Hager will be at 1 p.m. today at Glendale Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Terry Bess will officiate.

Mr. Hager, 86, of The Dalles, formerly of Glendale, died Friday (March 31, 2000) at the Veterans Home of Oregon in The Dalles.

Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Home of Oregon, 700 Veterans Drive, The Dalles, OR 97058.

He was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Belpre, Kan. He moved to Glendale in 1951 from Idaho.

In 1952, in Idaho, he married Edna Mondy, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Hager was a logger/timber faller for Georgia Pacific and Plumblee Logging Company in Medford until his retirement.

He was a member of the Traildust Saddle Club in Central Point and the Western Horsemen of Oregon.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Walker, Glendale, and Shirley Freeman, Salem; a sister, Betty Hager, Boise, Idaho; a brother, Vernon, Fruitland, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Leo Hager.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Joseph Charles Sardi

The graveside service for Joseph Charles Sardi will be at 3 p.m. today at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Medford Medical Center will officiate.

Mr. Sardi, 87, of Medford, died Saturday (April 1, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mr. Sardi was a butcher for 50 years.

He was a member of the California Butchers Association and the Meat Cutters Union. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Las Vegas.

He enjoyed dancing and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Jr., Placerville, Calif., David, Tracy, Calif., and Dan, Monument, Colo.; four daughters, Rose Miller, Medford, Judy Pierard, Redding, Calif., Patricia Sardi, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Debra Gregg, Kapaa, Hawaii; two brothers, Peter Sardina, Las Vegas, and Phil Sardi, Milwaukee; two sisters, Anna Sardina and Angie Herden, both Milwaukee; 32 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edie Sardi, in 1980.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Joseph Charles Sardi

The graveside service for Joseph Charles Sardi will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Medford Medical Center will officiate.

Mr. Sardi, 87, of Medford, died Saturday (April 1, 2000) at his home.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Ila Bess Chapman

Ila Bess Chapman, 73, of Prospect, died Saturday (April 1, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born April 7, 1926, in Ashland, a daughter of Francis Eugene and Lilah (Phelps) Warren. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

On Dec. 1, 1945, in Reno, she married S.W. Chapman, who survives.

Mrs. Chapman was a clerical staff worker with the U.S. Forest Service in Prospect for 20 years.

She enjoyed the outdoors and hiking.

Survivors include three sons, Monte D., Klamath Falls, Jerry D., Crescent, and Lonnie D., Guam; two brothers, Leonard Warren, Central Point, and Charles Warren, Oroville, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Wandell, Talent, and Ruth Wright, Yreka, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Lura May Davis

Lura May Davis, 86, of Medford, died Sunday (April 2, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Tom Sabens of Table Rock Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Washington Neurosurgery Research Fund, in memory of great-granddaughter Brittney Mallory, 1959 N.E. Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.

She was born May 21, 1913, in Springfield, Mo., a daughter of Lura Dean and Ruth (Davidson) Gordon. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Goldendale, Wash., and graduated from Medford High School. She lived here most of her life.

On Sept. 3, 1932, in Medford, she married Arthur R. Davis, who died in 1986.

Mrs. Davis worked for Pinnacle Packing Co. She was also a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening, birds, flowers and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Dale Pree, Medford; a son, Edmond, Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Gordon, and a great-granddaughter.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

James William Storey

The memorial service for James William Storey will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Ashland. Private entombment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum, Ashland.

Mr. Storey, 74, of Ashland, died Saturday (April 1, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 660 Frances Lane, Ashland, OR 97520, or the American Cancer Society, Northwest Division, Inc., Jackson County Unit, P.O. Box 3366, Portland, OR 97208-3366.

He was born June 2, 1925, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

On June 21, 1948, in Seaton, Ill., he married Rose Irene Pattison, who survives.

He received a bachelor of science degree from California Polytechnic State University in 1952.

Mr. Storey was a market news reporter for the California Department of Agriculture. He moved to Ashland in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's mate.

Mr. Storey was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for 18 years.

He belonged to the Kiwanis for more than 30 years, and served the community through numerous Kiwanis programs and activities. He was docent at the Natural History Museum and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Kiwanis' Touch a Life program.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Mark L., Guadalajara, Mexico, and Robert R., Pasadena, Calif.; and a daughter, Kristina L. Storey, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland St., Ashland.
