Mary Katherine Mete
The graveside service for Mary Katherine Mete will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Rev. Liam Cary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.
Mrs. Mete, 88, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 11, 2000) at her son's home in Medford.

She was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Portland, a daughter of Nicola and Elisabeth (Roppa) Thomas.
On Nov. 7, 1929, in Portland, she married Tony A. Mete, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Mete was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and caring for her home and family.
Survivors include a son, Ronald, Medford; a sister, Frances Federigitti, Portland, three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arthur Laverne Stevens
The memorial service for Arthur Laverne Stevens will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Roth of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Mr. Stevens, 80, of Phoenix, died Saturday (April 8, 2000) at Roseburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born March 12, 1920, in Rhinelander, Wisc. He moved to the Rogue Valley 40 years ago from Minnesota.
On Nov. 29, 1975, in Duluth, Minn., he married Harriet L. Gross, who survives.
Mr. Stevens was a bricklayer in the construction industry, retiring in the early 1970s.
He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater and was a member of the Minnesota National Guard, 125th field artillery.
Mr. Stevens enjoyed their rose bushes, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Sharon Olsen, Medford, Robin Schwietert, Eagle Point, and Stacey Gove, in Utah; four sons, Thomas Stevens, Medford; Ron Gross, Duluth, Minn., Russ Gross, Wausau, Wisc., and Al Logan, Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Richard Sanger and Jim Sanger, both Medford; a sister, Carol Clark, Phoenix; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Stevens, and Roger Gross; a daughter, Randi Gross; six brothers and two sisters.

Nellie Jean Weide
Nellie Jean Weide, 78, of Central Point, died Monday (April 10, 2000) at her home. A private service was held.
She was born March 6, 1922, in Bixby, Okla., a daughter of William and Bessie (Kimbrall) Henny. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1938 from Oklahoma.
On July 10, 1939, in Yreka, Calif., she married Henry Weide, who died in 1980.
Mrs. Weide was a Jehovah's Witness.
She enjoyed life, gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Bil, Medford; a daughter, Judy Shoemaker, Brookings; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Louis, in 1971; and a daughter, Betty Weide, in 1998.

Agnes M. Plass
The graveside service for Agnes M. Plass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Pastor David Keil will officiate.
Mrs. Plass, 85, of Medford, died Saturday (April 8, 2000) at her home.
She was born Agnes Beierwaltes on July 23, 1914, in Chicago.
On January 29, 1944, in Chicago, she married Henry C. Plass, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Plass worked at Montgomery Ward's in the Chicago area for several years. She was also involved with the American Red Cross.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Plass enjoyed reading and writing to her pen pals around the world.

Ruth L. Smith
The memorial service for Ruth L. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. The Rev. Bertram Davies will officiate.
Mrs. Smith, 77, of Gold Hill, died Saturday (April 8, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford.

She was born May 6, 1922, in Winnipeg, Canada, a daughter of Arthur and Dorthea (Thal) Bates.
On Jan. 11, 1943, in Cleveland, she married George Philip Smith, who survives. She moved to Selma in 1956, and lived in the Grants Pass and Medford areas for more than 50 years, retiring to Gold Hill in 1973.
Mrs. Smith worked for both the Josephine County Draft Board and the Department of Adult and Family Services.
During World War II, she served in the U.S. Coast Guard with the SPARS.
Mrs. Smith was a volunteer at the Gold Hill Library and was a member of the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Roy P., Gold Hill, and Lee W., San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Phyllis Gentry, Pittsburg, Calif.; two brothers, Howard Bates, Hobe Sound, Fla., and Gordon Bates, Norman, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Keith H. Butts
The memorial service for Keith H. Butts will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Presbyterian Church in Medford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.
Mr. Butts, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 11, 2000) at his home.

He was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Ashland, Neb.
On Jan. 7, 1945, in Blackwell, Okla., he married Bettie Sue Horn, who died in 1998. He moved to the Rogue Valley 40 years ago from Portland.
Mr. Butts was president of Munnell & Sherrill Inc.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Butts was a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Oregon Quarter Horse Association and the State of Jefferson Quarterhorse Association.
He was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed horses, ponies and time spent with his family.
Survivors include three sons, Larry and Jerry, both Medford, and Gary, Klamath Falls; a daughter, Carol Pagnini, Medford; two sisters, Evelyn Maxwell, Beaverton, and Ruth Tabor, Gresham; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon.
