Opal Launa Donahoo
Opal Laune Donahoo, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (April 26, 2000) at her home. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
She was born Opal Launa Newell on April 3, 1918, in Simon, Okla.
On Feb. 8, 1941, in Lawton, Okla., she married Elmer Wilson Donahoo, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1943 from Durant, Okla.
Mrs. Donahoo was a telephone operator for Pacific Northwest Bell for 48 years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Jim, Central Point; two daughters, Barbara Donahoo, Phoenix, and Shirley Donahoo, Medford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Walter Lund
Funeral for Walter Andrew Lund, 100, of Medford, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian Church of Ashland, 318 B St. His grandson, Pastor Bob Friend, will officiate.
He will be buried in Phoenix Cemetery.
Mr. Lund died Friday (April 28, 2000) at his home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1900, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
On June 20, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif., he married Lillian E. Galloway, who died in 1994.
The couple lived in the Rogue Valley since 1986, moving from South Gate, Calif.
Mr. Lund owned and operated Lund Machine Co. in Compton, Calif., until retiring in 1965.
He served in the U.S. Calvary in 1917 and 1918.
He was a member of the Phoenix Church of Christ.
Mr. Lund was a ham radio operator until 1994, and played saxophone and clarinet in several bands in California. He also enjoyed bowling and wood working. He was known to be quite a tinkerer.
Survivors include: daughters Sally A. Salazar, Talent, Marjorie I. Russell, Gold Hill, Clara R. Vlieland, Salem; a son, Walter, Lebanon; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Frances Ruth Johnson
The funeral for Frances Ruth Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Tabernacle, 840 Faith Avenue in Ashland. Private interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland.
Mrs. Johnson, 79, of Ashland, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in Lowell, Ore.

Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Idaho Fall, Idaho, a daughter to Horres and Pearl (Mortensen) Johnston.
On July 13, 1950, in Crescent City, Calif., she married Harold "Swede" Johnson, who died in 1987.
Mrs. Johnson was a lifetime member of the Faith Tabernacle in Ashland and was employed by Wiley & Reinholdt Insurance for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, baking, reading and church activities.
Survivors include her father, Horres Johnston of Idaho Falls; a son, Ronald Johnson of Lowell; a daughter, Judy Luker of Castro Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Horace Johnston of Anacortes, Wash., and Jerry Johnston of Houston, Texas; two half-sisters, Sandra Magnus of Mt. View, Calif., and Martha Miller of American Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Johnston; a brother, Dale Johnston; and a sister, Jean Page.

Benjamin Henry Leese
Benjamin Henry Leese, 78, of Medford, died Monday (May 1, 2000) at his home. A private service will be held. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born July 21, 1921, in Phoenix, Ariz. He graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, Calif., and attended the College of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. He moved to Medford in 1966.
Mr. Leese built the San Rogue Trailer Park in South Medford.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Leese was a past member of the Medford Board of Realtors, a member of Warren Masonic Lodge No. 10 in Jacksonville, the Scottish Rite and the Hillah Shrine Temple in Medford.
He enjoyed hunting, flying airplanes, horses and traveling.
Mr. Leese was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, Medford; five daughters, Dianne Harper, Kathy Morris, Teri Martin, all in Medford, Betty Ann Howard and Pam Murray, in California; and three grandchildren.

Tom A. Saunders
The funeral for Tom A. Saunders will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Medford. Pastor Dan Ferrell of the Greater Rogue Valley Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Saunders, 70, of Medford, died Friday (April 28, 2000) in Medford.

He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Oklahoma City, a son of John and Luella Saunders.
On Nov. 17, 1951, in Stillwater, Okla., he married Eula Bea Miller, who died in 1997.
Mr. Saunders was an area manager for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Denver and Missouri. He moved to the Rogue Valley 17 years ago from Kansas City, Mo. In the Rogue Valley, he worked for Harry and David for several years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant during the Korean War.
Mr. Saunders was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he spent many hours in fellowship with friends and members of the church. He was also a member of the Gideons Bible Society.
Survivors include three sons, Tom Jr. and Andrew M., both Kansas City, Mo., and Daniel T., Golden, Colo.; a daughter, Melinda Waide, Littleton, Colo.; and 11 grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Home in Medford.
Julia Maxine Nylund
Julia Maxine Nylund, 88, of Gold Hill, died Thursday (April 27, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Greeley, Colo.
She married Arvo Nylund, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Nylund was a homemaker. She lived in the Rogue Valley for more than 35 years. She enjoyed her cats and dogs and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Ted Varady, Grants Pass; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie, in 1980; and a son, Jim, in 1999.

Les Hulstein
Les Hulstein, 52, of Fountain Valley, Calif., formerly of Ashland, died April 22, 2000, in Torrance, Calif. The memorial service was held on April 26 at the Church of Our Fathers, Forest Lawn, Cypress, Calif. Chaplain Sherlyn Faulk officiated.
He was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Artesia, Calif., a son of Gerrit and Annette Hulstein. He attended Cypress Junior College from 1967 to 1968.
On July 5, 1975, in Fullerton, Calif., he married Michelle Cunningham, who survives.
Mr. Hulstein was a lineman for Southern California Edison. He lived in Ashland from 1982 to 1998.
He was a member of the Raiders Athletic Association and IBEW No. 47.
Mr. Hulstein enjoyed golf, softball and spending time with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Josh; a daughter, Carly; and two brothers, Garry and Jeff Hulstein. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerrit.
