Richard 'Rick' Rouse
The memorial service for Richard "Rick" Rouse will be at 11 a.m. today at Calvary Church Assembly of God in Jacksonville. Pastor Terry Luttrell will officiate. Interment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery.
Mr. Rouse, 26, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday (May 2, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born March 5, 1974, in Corona, Calif., a son of Dick and Nadine (Scharpf) Rouse. He graduated from South Medford High School in 1992.
Mr. Rouse graduated from Rogue Community College as an electronic technician in 1999.
He enjoyed electronics, computers, his cats and reading.
Survivors include his parents, Dick and Nadine Rouse, Jacksonville; three brothers, Steve and Michael, both Jacksonville, and Wesley, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Katherine Graver, Rapid City, S.D.; and his grandmother, Norma H. Scharpf, Jacksonville.

Joseph F. Podvojski
Joseph F. Podvojski, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. The memorial service will be held later.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
He was born March 16, 1918, in Adah, Pa.
In 1942, in Homestead, Pa., he married Marge Koval, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970.
Mr. Podvojski retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Joan F. Bluett, Sacramento, Calif.; a sister; a brother; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Sylvia Joy Cook
The memorial service for Sylvia Joy Cook will be at 3 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mrs. Cook's son, Michael Cook of Kodiak, Alaska, will officiate.
Mrs. Cook, 65, of White City, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at her home.

She was born July 23, 1934, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Leonard and Sylvia (Machen) Bray.
On March 19, 1954, in Idaho Falls, she married Chester Cook, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California in 1965.
Mrs. Cook was an apartment manager.
She was a member and three-time past president of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA). She was Woman of the Year 2000 for the ABWA.
She enjoyed leather work, target shooting and spoiling her children and grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Lynn Cook, Shady Cove, James Booi, Portland, Terrel Cook, Mill City, and Michael Cook, Kodiak, Alaska; three daughters, Shannon Westfall, White City, Trina Cook, Phoenix, and Cheryl Miller, Riddle; 17 grandchildren; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

Daniel F. Leary Sr.
The memorial service for Daniel Francis Leary Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Life Foursquare Church in Canby. Mr. Leary's nephew, Mitchell Leary, will officiate. Private interment was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Mr. Leary, 78, of Salem, formerly of Medford, died April 26, 2000, in Salem.

He was born July 12, 1921, in Portland, a son of James F. and Helen M. (Taylor) Leary. He graduated from Franklin High School in Portland in 1939.
On June 20, 1947, in Texas, he married June E. Moss. They later divorced.
Mr. Leary worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Medford and a rural route letter carrier in Central Point, retiring in 1980.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for six years.
Mr. Leary enjoyed fishing and dancing.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel F. Jr., Springfield, and James M., Cottage Grove; a daughter, Sue Saunders, Central Point; a sister, Jeanne Sworden, Estacada; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James, who died on April 11, 2000, and Robert; a sister, Virginia Leary; and his former wife, June, in 1995.

Dorothy 'Dot' Simpson
Dorothy "Dot" Simpson, 74, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (April 20, 2000) at her home. A memorial service will be held later.

She was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Miles City, Mont., a daughter of Burton E. and Mary A. (Keene) Craven. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954.
On April 1, 1977, in Eagle Point, she married Roger Duane Simpson, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Simpson was a cook.
She enjoyed cooking, jigsaw puzzles, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Robert Haynes, Abingdon, Ill.; a daughter, Katy Lovitt, Abingdon, Ill.; a brother, Jim Craven, Albany; a sister, Jean Pech, Eagle Point; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bryon T. Craven, in 1999.

Phillip O. Blevins
The memorial service for Phillip O. Blevins will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Point Garage, 107 W. Main St. Sgt. R.E. Walker of the Eagle Point Police Department will officiate. A potluck will follow the service.
Mr. Blevins, 60, of Eagle Point, died April 11, 2000, at his home.

He was born March 12, 1940, in Superior, Mont., a son of Frank and Jennie (Terry) Blevins.
On Nov. 23, 1963, in San Jose, Calif., he married Linda L. Knowlton, who survives. He moved to Oregon in 1964, and to the Rogue Valley in 1969.
Mr. Blevins owned and operated the Eagle Point Garage and Service Station since 1986.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962.
Mr. Blevins enjoyed hunting, fishing and operating the service station and Eagle Point Garage.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Geraldine Haugen, Eagle Point; a son, Frank, Garden City, Idaho; and a sister, Verginia Aylesworth, Seattle. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry; and a sister Eleanor Herschell.

'Gerry' Mary Lininger
Geraldine "Gerry" Mary Lininger, 74, of La Verne, Calif., formerly of Ashland and Medford, died March 19, 2000, at Pomona Valley Hospital. The graveside service was held March 25 at La Verne Cemetery. The memorial service was held March 30 at La Verne
Church of the Brethren. Charles Boyer and Janet Ober Miller officiated.

She was born June 26, 1925, in Ashland, a daughter of Bruce M. and Blanche (Minear) Lininger. She attended Ashland High School for three years, and graduated from Medford High School in 1943. She received a bachelor of arts degree from La Verne College in 1948.
Ms. Lininger taught high school business education for three years in Myrtle Point. She served with the Brethren Volunteer Service in Germany and Geneva, Switzerland from 1951 to 1955. She then taught business education for 29 years at Claremont High School in California, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, the Women Educators group, the California Retired Teachers Association, and the La Verne Church of the Brethren.
Ms. Lininger enjoyed gardening and traveling. She wrote poetry and gave slide presentations set to music to numerous community groups.
Survivors include her mother, Blanche Minear Lininger, La Verne, Calif.; and two sisters, Margaret V. Lininger, La Verne, Calif., and Ruth I. Lininger, Astoria.
