Virginia Roles
1928-2003
Former Cottage Grove resident Virginia Fay Roles of Springfield died July 18 of emphysema. She was 75.
Roles was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Claypool, Ariz., to James "Ed" and Josephine Lazear Pyeatt.
She married Fred Roles Jr. in Stevenson, Wash., in December of 1956. He died in May 1998.
She attended schools in Arizona, Nevada and Oregon, and lived in Cottage Grove during the early 1980s.
She worked for a wide variety of offices and retired as office manager in the adult education section of Lane Community College after 19 years of service.
She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed growing flowers, working crossword puzzles and playing card games.
In her younger years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, RV camping and tending to her large yard and garden.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Daphna Pyeatt of Sublimity; three daughters, Stacey Willis of Troutdale, Barbara Roselip of Springfield and Noreen Newell of Eugene; a son, Jeff Clearwater of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, James Pyeatt Jr., of Wickenburg, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
At her request, no service was held. Inurnment is at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
June Todd
1915-2003
The graveside service will be Saturday for June C. Todd of Cottage Grove, who died July 26, 2003, of age-related causes. She was 88.
She was born June 1, 1915, in Fletcher, Okla., to Charl and Jennie Hallum.
She married Norman Todd in Lacey, Wash., on May 2, 1992.
He died May 14, 1996. She was also preceded in death by husbands George Campbell, Donald Gard and Vernon Warner, and several siblings.
She moved to Drain in 1968 and to Cottage Grove in 1993.
She belonged to the Yoncalla Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed traveling, her church, and especially time spent with her family.
She is survived by three sons, Howard Campbell of Lacey, Michael Warner of Clarksville, Tenn., and James Warner of Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Donna West of Crystal River, Fla., Charla Currier of Lacey and Verna Dey of Creswell; a sister, Louise Harwell of Culver City, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Saturday's service will be at 10 a.m. at the Yoncalla Masonic Cemetery.
Wallace "Chick" Ciochetti
1921-2003
Wallace "Chick" Ciochetti, a 60-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Sept. 26 at the age of 82 from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. A memorial service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove.
He was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Tombstone, Ariz., Anton and Mary Ciochetti.
He joined the military and served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1941 until 1946.
He married Phylis Carlisle Nov. 21, 1943, in Eugene.
He received a master's degree in Education from the University of Oregon in 1947.
He was a well-known teacher and coach at Cottage Grove High School from 1948 to 1986.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove.
He was an avid runner and enjoyed traveling with his family.
He actively supervised the Water Safety Program for the Lane County Red Cross and served as the first manager, instructor and coach at the Cottage Grove Swimming Pool.
Chick enjoyed a long involvement with track and field and was employed by the Mexican Sport Federation to oversee the coach training program for the 1968 Olympics. He was an official for the Olympic Trials in 1972 and 1988, as well as a manager for the U.S. Team in the Pan Am Games of 1971, 1983 and 1987.
He officiated at many of the University of Oregon track meets.
Survivors include his wife Phylis Ciochetti; daughter Candi Ciochetti of Kirkland, Wash., and sons David Ciochetti of Portland and Tony Ciochetti of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Chick was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
A private cremation was under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

Irene Smith
1918-2003
Irene Mae Smith, 85, of Cottage Grove, died Sept. 20 of age-related causes.
Smith was born May 9, 1918, in Girard, Kan., to Ralph and Barbara Mattox Clutter.
She married Earl Smith in Girard on April 3, 1938. She grew up and attended schools in Girard.
She moved to Cottage Grove from Girard in 1951.
She was a homemaker and a very active member of the Church of Christ at Sixth Street and Gibbs Avenue in Cottage Grove.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her family.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Barbara Violette of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Rua of Pittsburg, Kan.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, Donald, died previously.
The funeral was held Sept. 26 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
Burial was at Fir Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ at Sixth Street and Gibbs Avenue in Cottage Grove.
Stanley Jeremiah Jr.
1927-2003
A graveside service was held Sept. 23 for Standley Watie Jeremiah Jr., of La Pine, formerly of Cottage Grove, who died Sept. 21 of age-related causes. He was 76.
Jeremiah was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Muldrow, Okla., to Standley Jeremiah Sr., and Willie Vaughan Jeremiah.
He married Alphild Hayes in Reno, Nev., on May 17, 1988.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He lived in Cottage Grove from the late 1940s until 1988, when he settled in La Pine.
He worked as a crane operator for Weyerhaeuser for many years.
He was a past president of the Springfield Eagles Lodge and a member of the Cottage Grove Elks, the La Pine Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post in La Pine. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ted of Payette, Idaho; a daughter, Karen Jeremiah of Ontario; three stepsons, Guy McKay of Burns and Jay and Raymond McKay, both of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Janet Brown of Salem; a brother, Clinton of La Pine; several grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. A son, Bob, died previously.
A service was held at the La Pine Community Cemetery.
