Alvy L. Bowman
The memorial service for Alvy L. Bowman will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Medford Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Charles Todd will officiate.
Mr. Bowman, 84, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at his home.
He was born May 4, 1916, in Worley, Idaho. On Oct. 16, 1942, in Dallas, he married Helen Parsons, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 47 years ago and lived in Prospect for many years before moving to Medford.
Mr. Bowman was a sales manager for Eugene F. Burrill Lumber Company for many years, retiring in 1981.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Bowman was a member of the West Coast Lumbermen Bureau.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Sharon Lynn Fellows, Spokane, Wash., and Rita Ann Wohlers, Collegedale, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Albert R. VanHoogten
Albert Rosalio VanHoogten, 50, of Ruch, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Oct. 11, 1949, in Antwart, Belguim, a son of Joannes and Frederica (Tummers) VanHoogten.
Mr. VanHoogten was a ranch hand and a fence builder. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Big Bear, Calif.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to records and life.
Survivors include his companion, Michelle Cook, Ruch; two sons, Jason, Saugus, Calif., and Ryan, Chatsworth, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Robert Mathis Davis
Robert Mathis Davis, 84, of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at Farmington Square. No service is planned.
He was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Chicago. In 1940, in Santa Barbara, Calif., he married Isabell Rachel Young, who survives.
Mr. Davis was an accountant for the Los Angeles County Library until his retirement. He moved to the Rogue Valley two years ago from Los Angeles.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Methodist Church.
He enjoyed sports and travel.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, John Frederic, San Ramon, Calif., and Robert Mathis, Chatsworth, Calif.; a daughter, Leslie Caren-Joy Davis, Ashland; two grandsons, and one granddaughter.

Thelma M. McCauley
Thelma M. McCauley, 88, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. The memorial service will be held later.

She was born Thelma Overcash on Nov. 26, 1911, in Post Falls, Idaho. On Aug. 2, 1930, in West Los Angeles, she married Samuel Dewey McCauley, who died in 1998.
Mrs. McCauley worked in a defense plant in Los Angeles during World War II. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1974.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix.
Mrs. McCauley enjoyed fishing, crocheting and playing card games.
Survivors include a son, Samuel D. Jr., Medford; a sister, Verdie Robinson, Seal Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Maryfred Cool.

Marvin Edwin Peterson
The memorial service for Marvin Edwin Peterson will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Smith-Lund-Mills Chapel in Cottage Grove. Private interment will be in Drain Cemetery.
Mr. Peterson, 64, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000) of Hodgkin’s Disease.
He was born May 8, 1936, in Drew, a son of Oscar and Gwendolyn (Redmond) Peterson. He received an associate’s degree in metallurgy.
On Sept. 19, 1959, in Medford, he married Ione Cratty, who survives.
Mr. Peterson was a millwright in Medford, and a steel fabricator in Eugene.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Peterson was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Cottage Grove.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Murphy, woodworking, traveling and reading and studying history.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Julie Peterson, Eugene, Monica Alford, Cottage Grove, and Michelle Jacobs, Pleasant Hill; three brothers, Du Wayne, Medford, Dudley, Talent, and John, in California; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements: Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Cottage Grove.
Craig Donald Sillivan
Craig Donald Sillivan, 70, of Gold Hill, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Rockvale Cemetery, south of Laurel, Mont.
He was born July 9, 1930, in Ryegate, Mont., a son of Alva and Lydia (Oard) Sillivan.
Mr. Sillivan was the deputy sheriff for Gold Valley County, Mont. during the early 1950s. From 1954 to 1960, he ranched, then worked as a heavy equipment operator in Eastern Montana He also worked as a mechanic in Quartzite, Ariz., for many years. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, music, competition shooting and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Delores Tibbels of Quartzite, Ariz.; and a brother, Warren, Ryegate, Mont. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Jellison Piety, in 1995; and a brother, Wayne Sillivan, in 1997.

Edna Hoffman
Edna Hoffman, 78, of Ashland, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) in Bend. A private celebration of life will be held for her and her late husband, Walter Hoffman.
She was born Edna Mae Wright on Oct. 17, 1921, in Miami, Okla. She attended San Jose State College in California.
On April 25, 1945, on Mare Island, Calif., she married Walter Hoffman, who preceded her in death by 28 days. As the wife of a Naval officer, she traveled extensively, living in Norway and Germany. They moved to the Rogue Valley 37 years ago from Newport, R.I.
Mrs. Hoffman was a self-employed artist. She won many awards for her paintings and had numerous art shows in the Pacific Northwest. Her art is on display throughout the United States.
She was active in the Ashland Christian Science Church and was a lifetime member of the Ashland Study Book Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Lise Hoffman-McCabe, Bend, and Paula Wulff, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Avery, Sacramento, Calif., and Louise Lucas, Calistoga, Calif.; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Wright Hoffman; and a brother, Joe Wright.
