Harold A. Handschug
Harold Arthur Handschug, 81, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Home. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Herman, Minn., a son of William and Lydia (Schwortz) Handschug. On June 6, 1942, in Cedar, Minn., he married Lorraine Paulson, who survives.
Mr. Handschug was a farmer in Minnesota until 1942. He then moved to Orange County, Calif., where he worked at the Naval blimp base and at Santa Ana Air Base during World War II. He later worked for Kwickset Lock Co. in Anaheim, Calif. After he moved to the Rogue Valley in 1965, he worked for Medco.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Larry, White City, and Gary, Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Donald, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrtle, Joan, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Evelyn; and two brothers, Bud and Bill.

Charles A. White
The memorial service for Charles A. White will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Ashland Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. White, 79, of Sublimity, formerly of Ashland, died Oct. 6, 2000 in Sublimity.

He was born March 3, 1921, in Cleburne, Texas.
In 1940, he enlisted in the Army and was transferred to Camp White, Ore. After serving in Italy and earning a Bronze Star, he returned to Ashland and lived there until 1996.
In 1942, he married Ida Belle Davis, who survives.
Mr. White was a logger and a truck driver throughout Southern Oregon. He later returned to school to become a computer operator. He retired as computer manager from Rogue Valley Data Processing in 1982. He moved to the Salem/Sublimity area four years ago.
He was the local regional commander for the American Legion. In retirement, he served many hours as the American Legion volunteer coordinator at the White City Domiciliary. Before moving to a care center in Sublimity for his wife’s health, he helped found the military museum now located at the domiciliary.
He enjoyed playing guitar and singing at the domiciliary.
Survivors; in addition to his wife, include three sons, David, Salem, Richard, Portland, and Howard, Ashland; two brothers; a sister; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Claude Nichols
Robert Claude Nichols, 67, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born June 17, 1933, in Gordon, Neb. On June 30, 1957 in Springfield, he married Velda Moon, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1983 from Drain.
Mr. Nichols owned and operated a barber shop in the Cascade Shopping Center in White City for nine years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Nichols was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and North Douglas Grange No. 936.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Wendie Nichols, Phoenix; a brother, George, in Idaho; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill Nichols; and a sister, Nellie Nichols.

Viola May Dishman
The graveside service for Viola May Dishman will be at 2 p.m. today at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.
Ms. Dishman, 86, formerly of Talent and Medford, died Monday (Oct. 9, 2000) at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Huntington, W. Va., where she had been visiting her sister.
She was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Huntington, W. Va., a daughter of Elmer and Leona (Smith) Chandler.
Ms. Dishman lived in California from 1952 to 1989, when she moved to Talent. In 1996, she moved to Medford and then to Louisiana in 1999 to be near her daughter.
Survivors include a son, Dallas Bruce, Gold Hill; a daughter, Iona Jones, Kenner, La.; a sister, Isabelle Stewart, Huntington, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Bruce; a daughter, Wanda Hamer; a brother, Orie Chandler; and two sisters, Evelyn Friley and Luella Ross.

Dorothy Piercy
Dorothy Piercy, 94, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Dec. 6, 1905, in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Frank and Maida (Severn) Miller. On Aug. 8, 1936, in Sacramento, Calif., she married Eric Piercy, who survives.
Mrs. Piercy was a secretary for Standard Oil. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from Sonoma, Calif.
She was past president of the Hand Weavers Guild of Medford and a member for 18 years. She was an experienced handweaver and won many awards for her weaving at crafts shows.
Mrs. Piercy enjoyed arts and crafts.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a sister, Elizabeth Tanner, Eugene.

Bulah J. McArthur
The funeral for Bulah J. McArthur will be at 1 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cypress in Cypress, Calif.
Mrs. McArthur, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) in Medford.

She was born Bulah Jeniel Cash on May 17, 1918, in Grangeville, Idaho. On Feb. 2, 1934, in Grangeville, she married Angus McArthur, who died in 1974. She moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from North Long Beach, Calif.
Mrs. McArthur enjoyed traveling, music and dancing.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Duarte, Medford, Jeniel St. Germain, Carlsbad, Calif., and Phyllis Snyder, North Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Archie, Central Point; a sister, Evelyn Reiner, Grangeville, Idaho; two brothers, David and Gordon Cash, both Grangeville, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gene; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; four brothers; and three sisters.

Ann Mary Gaskill
The graveside service for Ann Mary Gaskill will be at 1 p.m. today at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. A reception will follow in Memory Gardens Reception Room.
Ms. Gaskill, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Ann Mary Roich on Feb. 20, 1922, in Superior, Wyo.
Ms. Gaskill worked for Thrifty Drug in Southern California, retiring after 30 years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Wyoming.
She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union, and the Eagles Lodge in California and Wyoming.
Ms. Gaskill enjoyed dancing and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a brother, George Roich, Eagle Point. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to noon today at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
