Everett J. Bostwick

The memorial service for Everett J. Bostwick will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Rev. David Close of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Private family inurnment will be at the Logtown Cemetery in Ruch.

Mr. Bostwick, 72, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Winterspring Center for Living with Loss and Grief, P.O. Box 8169 Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 18, 1928 in Medford and lived in the Rogue Valley his entire life.

Mr. Bostwick was the owner of Bostwick Construction and Millwork in Medford until his retirement in 1994, when his son took over the business.

Mr. Bostwick was in the Merchant Marines in 1946 and 1947. He was a member of the Medford Rotary Club and Past President of the Home Builders Association. He was named Home Builder of the Year for Jackson County, and also recognized for building the Home of the Year for the State of Oregon.

He enjoyed mining, fishing, motorcycling and traveling the world.

He is survived by his former wife, Jimmie Fae Bostwick; his son Matt Bostwick of Medford; and his daughter, Sandra Scott of Medford; sisters Vivian Miller of Florence and Norma Lenherr of White City; and two grandsons.

Alice Jane Thoreson

The celebration of the life of Alice Jane Thoreson will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at her daughter’s home, 1248 Eureka Circle, Medford.

Mrs. Thoreson, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) in Medford.

On Nov. 30, 1935, she married Keith V. Thoreson, who died in 1989.

Among her survivors is a sister, Lois Lillebo, in Minnesota; and nine great-grandchildren.

Inaccurate information in an obituary printed Friday was provided by the funeral home.

Jeanne Emilienne Giraud

Jeanne Emilienne Giraud, 82, of Central Point, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000) at Hearthstone in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Jeanne Emilienne Signe on Aug. 8, 1918, in LeMans, France.

Mrs. Giraud was a medical bookkeeper. She moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from Las Vegas.

She enjoyed animals and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Estvold, Central Point; a son, George Giraud, Port Orange, Fla.; a brother, Paul Leroux, San Diego; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Antoine V. Giraud and Mac McMurtry; and a son, Jean-Marie "Jim."

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Betty M. Shaw

The funeral for Betty M. Shaw will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff of the First Presbyterian Church in Medford will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Shaw, 72, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Elizabeth Anwiler on Nov. 22, 1927, in Carrington, N.D. On Dec. 2, 1950, in Palmer, Alaska, she married Clifford B. Shaw, who died in 1995. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 from San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. Shaw was a registered nurse at Providence Medford Medical Center for 17 years, working as night supervisor, emergency room nurse, and in quality assurance.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.

Mrs. Shaw enjoyed making Christmas crafts, gardening, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean M. Sprinkle, Medford; a son, David C., Fort Collins, Colo.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Bellinger and Arnold Lane, Medford.

Ruby Mae Mark

The memorial service for Ruby Mae Mark will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford. Inurnment will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Medford. The memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14, in the First Presbyterian Church in North Bend.

Mrs. Mark, 91, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born July 10, 1909, in Dutch Hollow, Council Bluffs, Iowa, a daughter of James A. and Pearl I. (Matlack) Johnson. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and received additional education in teaching.

On March 7, 1928, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she married Carl Mark, who died in 1988. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1935, then to North Bend in 1950, and returned to the Rogue Valley in 1997.

Mrs. Mark taught school in Iowa, worked in the fruit industry in the Rogue Valley, and worked in a medical clinic and doctors’ offices in North Bend. She retired in 1958.

She was a member of the Order of Runeberg, North Bend Chapter, the Order of the Eastern Star, Adriel Chapter, Jacksonville, the Medford Emblem Club No. 420, and served in many positions at the North Bend Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed oil painting, letter writing and poetry.

Survivors include three sons, Carl III, West Linn, Gary J., Aloha, and Dennis V., Mission Viejo, Calif.; three daughters, Regina P. Wearne, Carlene M. Pratt, and Danielle E. Wing, all of Medford.; a sister, Martha Parrick, Yuma, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin sons, John and Albert, in 1930; and a brother, William M. Johnson, in 1987.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

John Reppy Allan

The funeral for John Reppy Allan will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Chapel. Family members will officiate.

Mr. Allan, 81, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2000) at Hearthstone.

He was born June 3, 1919, in Pasadena, Calif., a son of Bryson G. and Linda V. Allan. He attended California Institute of Technology. On May 25, 1947, in Los Angeles, he married Bobbie, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Allan was a Naval architect at Todd Shipyards Corp. in San Pedro, Calif. He moved to Medford 28 years ago from Harbor City, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Allan was a member of the Cal Tech Alumni Association and the International Wood Collectors Association.

He taught wood carving and made more than 2500 dragons from samples of exotic woods he had collected. He participated in the Children’s Festival and enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey western novels.

Survivors include two sons, Rick, Medford, and Bob, Junction City; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Dick Cogdell

Dick Cogdell, 83, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 2, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Memory Gardens Mortuary. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born June 15, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo. On Oct. 9, 1938, in Douglas, Wyo., he married Georgia McCoubrey, who survives.

Mr. Cogdell was a stock controller for the Federal Aviation Agency in Anchorage, Alaska for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Anchorage.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Cogdell was a member of the Methodist church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and dancing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Nancy Halverson, Medford; two sons, Richard F. Cogdell, Eagle River, Alaska, and George Halverson, Medford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
