Marilyn Olson Sweeney
Marilyn Olson Sweeney, 62, of Teacapan, Mexico, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 2000) while visiting her brother in Medford.
She was born on June 16, 1938, in Medford, a daughter of Warren E. and Louise (Fluhrer) Olson. In September 1969 she married Hollis Sweeney who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sweeney was a 1956 graduate of Medford Senior High. She received a bachelor of arts degree in 1960 from Stanford University.
She worked as a research chemist for Shell Development. After her retirement, she worked with various businesses in Olympia, Wash.
Mrs. Sweeney enjoyed reading and traveling.
Survivors include; a brother, Dr. Henry W. Olson, Medford; and four stepchildren.

Thomas Joseph Donahue
Thomas Joseph Donahue, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2000) at his home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1916, in San Francisco. On Sept. 2, 1970, he married Helen M. Reminger, who died in 1997. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945 from San Francisco.
Mr. Donahue worked as a ship builder for Bethlehem Steel in San Francisco. He was part of the construction crew that built the first theater for the Shakespeare festival in Ashland. He also worked for Pacific Power for 29 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Lions Club and Elks Lodge in Medford.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Scott, Portland; a daughter, Anne Gaier, Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Villa Bauer and Elva Allen, both San Joaquin Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Cyrus Alan Richards
The graveside service for Cyrus Alan Richards will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Rev. J.C. Holden of the Salvation Army will officiate.
Mr. Richards, 47, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1952, in Memphis, Tenn. On Nov. 6, 1973, in Federal Way, Wash., he married Joy S. Grimsley, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 11 years ago from Longview, Wash.
Mr. Richards served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He enjoyed collecting movies and "Star Trek" paraphernalia. He was mechanically inclined, and could fix anything.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Rudy, and one grandchild.

Charles Bertram Bratton
Charles Bertram Bratton, 79, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Medford, died Oct. 8, 2000, at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.
He was born on March 5, 1921, in Duncan, Okla.
Mr. Duncan served in the U.S. Army for six years.
He worked as an electrician until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth J.; eight sons, John, Michael and Robert, all Eagle Point, Warren, Wilsonville, Donald, Hermiston, Steven, Ontario, Charles Jr., Dallesport, Wash., and Joseph, Longview, Wash.; two daughters, Linda Liebe, Umatilla, and Merilyn McDaniel, Medford; a stepson, Dave Rott; a brother, Donald, LaMesa, Calif.; a sister, Midge Green, Santee, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Orville Leon "Lee" Scott
Orville Leon "Lee" Scott, of Sun City Hilton Head, S. C., died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000) at his home. A memorial service was held in South Carolina on Sunday.
Mr. Scott, 65, lived for 23 years in Oregon.
He worked at 3M Corp. in White City until he retired in 1991, and moved to South Carolina in 1998.

He was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Nettleton, Miss., the son of Charley Washington Scott and Beulah Crystelle Monaghan.
On March 27, 1972, in Idyllwild, Calif., he married Paula Jean Trout, who survives.
He enjoyed his church, family, friends and his companion pets.
Survivors, in addition to his spouse, include two sons, William Curtis Smith, Amity, and Gregory Allen Scott, Sugar Grove, Ohio; a daughter, Brenda Lois Bartell, Amity; a sister, Nita Byrne, Chesterfield, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.
Winifred Caton
Winifred A. Caton, 97, of Florence, formerly of Ashland, died Oct. 1, 2000, of age-related causes. No service is planned.

She was born Oct. 17, 1902, in Talent, a daughter of Margaret and Daniel Hanscam. She attended schools in Agate and Medford. On June 2, 1918, in Medford, she married Clyde N. Caton, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Caton and her husband owned a car dealership and auto repair service in Ashland. She lived in Ashland from 1928-1987, when she moved to Coos Bay, and then to Florence. She was a resident of Spruce Point Assisted Living Community.
During World War II, she was a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps and a volunteer spotter for the U.S. Army Air Forces IV Fighter Command.
She was Past Matron of Alpha Chapter No. 1 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Mary E. McCall Past Matrons Club, Zuleima Temple No. 13, Daughters of the Nile, Royal Arch Widows, Lady Elks of Ashland, and the Order of White Shrine of Oregon, Coos Bay. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Ashland. She and her husband were members of the Jackson county Riding Association, and enjoyed horseback riding on Oregon trails.
Mrs. Caton enjoyed cooking, traveling, sewing and designing and color-inking cards and stationery.
Survivors include a son, Donald, North Bend; a daughter, Phyllis Williams, Florence; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, in 1963; and two brothers, Elmer and Albert Hanscam.
Arrangements: Burns Riverside Chapel, Florence.
Ryan Elliott Thompson
The memorial service for Ryan Elliott Thompson will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford.
Mr. Thompson, 21, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000) in Medford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society.
He was born Oct. 5, 1979 in Ashland to David and Kathleen Thompson.
He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life. He graduated from Waslatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah in 1998.
He enjoyed photography, mountain climbing, the outdoors and animals of all kinds.
He is survived by his parents, who live in Medford; his sister Nicole Thompson, Medford.
