Gertrude Alice Earnest
The funeral for Gertrude Alice Earnest will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Pastor Bob Wood of the Redwood Christian Church of Grants Pass will officiate.
Mrs. Earnest, 90, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000), at Royale Gardens Health & Retirement Center in Grants Pass.
She was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Benwood, W.Va., a daughter of Clement and Mable Givens. On July 4, 1928, in Benwood, she married Grover Earnest, who preceded her in death in 1976. She moved to Oregon in 1972 from West Virginia.
Mrs. Earnest was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grants Pass.
She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, singing, and yodeling with her friends at Royale Gardens.
Survivors include; five daughters, Jean Oberdick, and Jeannette Hiltbrenner, both of Grants Pass, Sheila Hyatt, Hacienda Heights, Calif., Maureen Kelly, Fontana, Calif., and Brenda Hill, Mulino; two sons, Donald, Tip City, Ohio, and Gerald, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; a sister, Lucille Allison, West Farmington, Ohio; a brother, Charles Givens, Sturgess, Mich.; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Grover Jr. in 1931, Genoa in 1946, and Aston in 1977; a daughter, Susan in 1974; a sister, Audrey in 1994; and a brother, Edgar, in 1999.

Irene R. Clason
The memorial service for Irene R. Clason will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at Horton Plaza, in Medford.
Mrs. Clason, 91, of Medford, died Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000) at her home.

She was born Irene Ruth Brown, on Nov. 5, 1908, in Lebanon, Mo., a daughter of Patrick and Tillie (Law) Brown, In 1929 in Kansas City, Kan., she married William "Hank" Henry Clason, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Pollock Pines, Calif.
Mrs. Clason worked as a secretary.
She enjoyed reading, music, parades and Octoberfest.
Survivors include two sons, Pat, Medford, and Don, Sarasota Fla.; a sister Agnes Brydges, Cape Cod, Mass.; a brother, Jimmy Brown, Reno; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Bruce Brown.

Gene Allen Stewart
The memorial service for Gene Allen Stewart will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart, 81, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Medford.

He was born June 14, 1919, in Holden, Mo., a son of Robert and Lula Stewart. He moved to Medford in 1960.
Mr. Stewart served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Engineers during World War II. He was part of the occupied forces in Hiroshima, Japan.
He built race cars and flathead racing motors in the 1940s and 1950s. He managed Parnelli Jones Racing Tire Stores in Southern California, and was a loan manager for Crocker-Anglo Bank in Merced, Calif. He worked for the Medford Post Office until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, he lived in Newport and Dallas, Ore., returning to Medford in 1995.
Mr. Stewart was a past president of the Merced Jaycees and was involved in the post office labor union.
He enjoyed racing, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Allen, " Jacksonville; a daughter, Tonya Soule, Sparks, Nev.; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry, a daughter, Penny Stewart, a sister, Mary Margaret Stapp, and two brothers, Bob and George.

Martha M. Alner
The memorial service for Martha M. Alner, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Alner, 84, of Longview, Wash., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Sept. 10, 2000, at a care center.

She was born Martha Konn on Oct. 26, 1915, in Sisseton, S.D. On Aug. 31, 1940, in Sisseton, she married Henry Alner, who died in 1995. She lived in the Rogue Valley for more than 50 years, moving to Longview two years ago.
Mrs. Alner was a member of the Methodist church in Ashland.
She enjoyed traveling, canning and fishing in the ocean.
Survivors include a son, Bill, Longview; two daughters, Sharon Anderson, Brookings, and Debra Hudson, Springfield; a sister, Olga Howell, Annandale, Minn; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Konn.

Ethel Marie Gay Leber
The funeral for Ethel Marie Gay Leber will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Chapel. Pastor Jim Burlund of the Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Leber, 83, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at her home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Lane County, a daughter of John and Nancy Gay. On June 30, 1934, in Sacramento, Calif., she married Lawrence L. Leber, who died in 1965.
Mrs. Leber was a foreman at Santa Cruz Canning Co., retiring after 35 years of service. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Moss Landing, Calif., 12 years ago.
She was a member of the Grange in Central Point and in Watsonville, Calif. She was also a member of the Rosicrucians.
Mrs. Leber enjoyed crafts, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Lonnie Wyatt and Idrya Owens, both Medford; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph, in 1957, and Paul, in 1983; and one grandchild.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.
Addie B. Hisaw
Addie B. Hisaw, 86, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Oct. 12, 2000) at her home in Grants Pass. A private graveside service will be held Monday at Granite Hill Cemetery, Grants Pass.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hisaw, Grants Pass, and Jennie Thompson, Eugene; a brother, Tip Richardson, Redding, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Lee Malone
James Lee Malone, 93, of Gold Hill, died Friday (Oct. 13, 200) at a local foster care home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Rock Point Odd Fellows Cemetery.
He was born May 7, 1907, in Klamath Falls, a son of Robert and Eva (Cotton) Malone. He moved to the Rogue Valley when he was seven years old and spent most of his life in the Gold Hill area. On March 9, 1946, he married Edith Jones, who survives.
Mr. Malone was a farmer. He also worked for Del Rio Orchards for many years.
He was a member of IOOF Lodge No. 129, the Rebekah Lodge, and Gold Hill Christian Church.
Mr. Malone enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Larry, Rogue River; two daughters, Sylvia L. Morgan, Medford, and Lavon Saxbury, Central Point; a brother, John W. Childers, White City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, June Calhoun and Martha Cromwell.

Doris Violet Hughes
The graveside service for Doris Violet Hughes will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Mark Burton of Medford Friends Church will officiate.
Mrs. Hughes, 82, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Doris Violet Johnson on Jan. 28, 1918, in Post Falls, Idaho. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1926 from Washington. On Aug. 20, 1940, in Everett, Wash., she married Charles L. Hughes, who survives.
Mrs. Hughes taught Sunday school for 30 years. She was a member of the Medford Friends Church.
She enjoyed church and child evangelism, gardening, sewing and writing poetry.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Sam, Medford, and Jim, Central Point; a brother, Burl Johnson, Medford; two sisters, Lois Simmons and Ruth Hooker, both Medford; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clair Johnson; and one grandchild.
