Fran Whiteside
The graveside service for Fran Whiteside will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Whiteside, 53, of Central Point, died Thursday (Nov. 2, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born March 17, 1947, in Orange, Calif., a daughter of Vernon and Mary (Miller) Branson. On Sept. 2, 1984, in Reno, Nev., she married Robert S. Whiteside, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1964 from Norco, Calif.
Mrs. Whiteside was an accounting clerk for the city of Central Point since 1966.
She enjoyed tole painting, sewing and gardening.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Brian Bessey, Central Point; a daughter, Diann Britton, Coos Bay; three sisters, Barbara Frost, Jacksonville, and Loretta Pawul and Lorraine Callaghan, both Cleveland; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and a sister, Mary Ann Hurd, in 1993.

Paul Waite Steveson
The memorial service for Paul Waite Steveson will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. High Priest Leader Denise Cluff of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate.
Mr. Steveson, 91, of Ashland, died Oct. 24, 2000, at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.
He was born April 9, 1909, in Barry, Wash., a son of Harvey F. and Sarah G. Steveson. As a young man he worked in the orchards of the Wenatchee Valley with his family, and was on the crew that built the Grand Coulee Dam.
During World War II, he worked in a Seattle shipyard constructing Liberty Ships. He also helped his father build housing to meet the needs of people moving to the area.
In 1945, Mr. Steveson and his parents moved to the Rogue Valley from Seattle, and purchased a dairy farm in Phoenix. When the dairy farm sold, he opened the Maple Dairy Bar, which he operated until his retirement in the 1970s.
He was a member of the Dairymen’s Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ashland.
Mr. Steveson enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography and traveling.
Survivors include a niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Laura Smith Ellis
The memorial service for Laura Smith Ellis will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Provolt Community Church, 13480 Williams Highway, Grants Pass. The Rev. Michael A. Hale will officiate.
Mrs. Ellis, 86, of Applegate, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at a foster care home in Ruch.

She was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of James and Nina (Norman) Smith. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and her master’s degree from the University of Chicago. She moved to the Portland area from California in 1940.
On Sept. 14, 1956, in Lake Oswego, she married Benjamin Franklin Ellis, who died in 1988.
Mrs. Ellis was a social worker for children in the Portland area. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Lake Oswego.
She offered a portion of her farm, Ellis Farm, as the site for the new Applegate Public Library. She was a longtime member of the board of directors of the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy and was an enthusiastic supporter of environmental and children’s causes.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Alice Davis
The funeral for Alice Davis will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Road, Medford. Pastor Bob Mathers of Alliance Bible Chapel will officiate.
Ms. Davis, 92, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 31, 2000) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Alice Aleda Davis on Nov. 13, 1907.
On May 9, 1925, in Los Angeles, she married Robert Rosco, who died in 1983. They moved to the Rogue Valley in the 1970s from Reno, Nev.
Ms. Davis enjoyed crocheting, knitting, drawing, stamp collecting and sewing.
She is survived by her brother, Allen Bolton, Brunswick, Ga., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert, in 1989, and daughter, Ruby, in 1929.
Friends may pay their respects following the funeral.

Isabel M. Brewer
Isabel M. Brewer, 82, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private family service will be held.

Mrs. Brewer was born March 18, 1918 in Illinois, and attended schools in Decatur, Ill. On July 11, 1941, at the Grand Canyon in Arizona, she married C. Ray Brewer, who died in 1991.
The family lived in San Bernardino, Calif., from 1963 to 1974, when they moved to Moscow, Idaho. Together, the Brewers owned and operated several furniture stores in several cities until their retirement. They moved to Talent in 1978. Mrs. Brewer moved to the Fountain Plaza Retirement Community in Medford this year.
Mrs. Brewer was a member of the Presbyterian Church in San Bernardino. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, and was an avid baseball fan.
Survivors include three sons, Gary R. Brewer, Talent, Stephen C. Brewer, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Douglas K. Brewer, Lake Oswego; one daughter, Susan L. Myatt, Santa Rosa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Margaret S. Morgan
The graveside service for Margaret S. Morgan will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastors Stan Way and Mark Delladio of Cornerstone Christian Church will officiate.
Ms. Morgan, 59, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 3, 2000) at her home.

She was born Margaret Stephanie Nelson on Oct. 7, 1941, in White Plains, N.Y. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from California.
Ms. Morgan enjoyed reading, cooking and music, especially jazz and blues.
Survivors include a son, Chris Norman, Medford; three daughters, Monica Humphrey, and Dian Norman, both Medford, and Michelle Whalen, Seattle; her father, Thomas Nelson Sr., Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas Nelson Jr., North Salem, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret S. Nelson.

Nina E. Pile
The memorial Mass for Nina E. Pile will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Dunsmuir, Calif. The Rev. O’Riley will officiate.
Mrs. Pile, 81, of Castella, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 3, 2000), in Redding, Calif.

She was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Corning, Calif. She graduated from San Jose State College in 1941, and moved to a logging camp in White Horse, Calif., to teach eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse.
On May 24, 1942, in Hayward, Calif., she married Ralph A. Pile, who survives.
Mrs. Pile was a teacher for 25 years, retiring in 1972. In Medford, she and her husband owned and operated the Yogurt Grove for 10 years. They lived in the Rogue Valley from 1982 to 1992, and retired to Castella.
She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Dunsmuir and was a volunteer at Castle Crags State Park in Castella.
Mrs. Pile enjoyed hiking.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Mike, Sacramento, Calif., Tim, Salem, and Bob, Pleasanton, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Summers, Sacramento, and Catherine Straus, Salem; a sister, Lorraine Long, Salem; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
