Marjorie L. Zempel

The memorial service for Marjorie L. Zempel will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Foots Creek Chapel in Rogue River. Pastor Dick Leithner will officiate.

Mrs. Zemple, 85, of Rogue River, died Nov. 6, 2000, in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Foots Creek Chapel Outreach Fund, 913 Foots Creek Road, Rogue River, OR 97537.

She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Stevens Point, Wis., the daughter of Elinar and Helen (Sherman) Peterson. On Feb. 24, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, she married Dean La Ray Zempel, who died in 1992.

Mrs. Zempel was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981.

She enjoyed church work and activities, fishing, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Michael, Rogue River; a daughter, Marlene Gordon, Saugus, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Charlotte ‘Glen’ Carlson

The graveside service for Charlotte "Glen" Carlson will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Carlson, 81, of Jacksonville, died Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Anderson, Ind., a daughter of Charles and Edna Kiger. On Dec. 31, 1964, in Marysville, Calif., she married Ralph Carlson, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Carlson owned and operated a legal and medical stenographer service, retiring in 1977.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, writing and rose gardening.

Survivors include a son, Barry Wendel, Napa, Calif.; a daughter, Sarah Glenda Adams, Central Point; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

George Carlton Webster

George C. Webster, 75, of Talent, died Nov. 3, 2000, in Orange, Calif. The memorial service was held Nov. 5 in the Evangelical Covenant Church of Mission Viejo, Calif. His sons, the Rev. Doug Webster and the Rev. Gary Webster, officiated. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, Calif.

He was born March 9, 1925, in Port Chester, N.Y. The family moved to Brooklyn, where he attended elementary school. They later moved to Old Bridge, N.J., where he graduated from South River High School in 1941. After a year at Rutgers University, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and trained as a navigator. After returning to civilian life in 1945, he returned to school and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers in 1949.

In 1952, he married Patricia Donovan. They moved to Anaheim, Calif., in 1954.

Mr. Webster was an electrical engineer with Rockwell Corp. in California.

In the U.S. Army Air Force, he was assigned to a B-17 bomber crew, the 34th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. His plane made 20 air raids on Germany, and he was forced to bail out one time. He received the Air Medal with three clusters for his service. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 as a major.

Mr. Webster played baseball with the Old Bridge Keystone Athletic Club. An expert computer operator, he organized the Lake Wildwood Computer Club.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed genealogical research and playing the piano.

Survivors include three sons, Brian, Anaheim, Gary, Fremont, Calif., and Douglas, Mission Viejo; a sister, Madeline Coats, Medford; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cypress, Calif.

Herbert ‘Herb’ Lingren

The memorial service for Herbert Stanley "Herb" Lingren will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Antioch Cemetery. Pastor Brett Garrett of Medford Friends Church will officiate.

Mr. Lingren, 85, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 11, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S. W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219-5481, or Dunn House, c/o Community Works, 900 E. Main St., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Pasadena, Calif. He moved with his family to Gold Hill in 1927 from Pasadena.

On May 6, 1937, in Medford, he married Elaine Rush, who died in 1993.

Mr. Lingren retired from Orchard Auto Parts in 1978 after 28 years of service. In the 1930s, he was a gold miner, and in the 1940s, he worked as a carpenter.

During the early part of World War II, he flew "flying boats" aircraft along the Oregon Coast for Coast Watch, scouting for enemy submarines.

Mr. Lingren was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Sams Valley Grange.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Richard "Nick, " Medford, and Ron, Fair Oaks, Calif.; a sister, Beulah Clement, Medford; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Glenn.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Robert ‘Bob’ Anderson

Robert "Bob" Yorke Anderson, 71, of Sams Valley, died Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2000) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of West and Helen Yorke Anderson. On Aug. 9, 1978, in Las Vegas, he married Mary A. Hackley, who survives.

Mr. Anderson was a mechanic foreman at Metropolitan Stevedore Co. in Long Beach, retiring in 1993. He moved to the Rogue Valley six years ago from Long Beach.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, Scottish Rite, and was a founding member of the Sportsman Club in Long Beach.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Steven L. Anderson, Seattle, Terry W. and Troy A. Anderson, both Bakersfield, Calif., Don F.S. Bogardus, Chicago, Roy E. Potter, Eagle Point, and Douglas W. Squires, Kirkland, Wash.; two daughters, Peggy L. Anderson-Moore, Rogue River, and Mary L. Conley, Portsmouth, Va.; and 18 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

John Theodore Burns

The private memorial service for John Theodore Burns was held Saturday (Nov. 11, 2000) at Hillcrest Chapel. The Rev. Rick Burns of First Baptist Church of Medford officiated.

Mr. Burns, 90, of White City, died Nov. 4, 2000, at Three Fountains Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Christian School Scholarship Fund, 649 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Townsend, Tenn. He was a resident of the Rogue Valley since 1955, living in Medford and White City.

Mr. Burns attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., and Louisville Presbyterian Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He was a Presbyterian pastor in Reedsport, Cottage Grove and Glendale. He also worked as a high school teacher and coach in Riddle and Myrtle Creek, as well as a forest products worker in Myrtle Creek and Medford. He retired from Medply in 1980.

Mr. Burns was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include three sons, David L., Tacoma, Wash., John T. Jr., Lafayette, Calif., and William F., Medford; a daughter, Margaret Jane Firestone, Portland; a brother, Herbert, Townsend, Tenn.; a sister, Inez E. Burns, Maryville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Edith O. Allen

The funeral for Edith O. Allen will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church, 2555 Corey Road, Central Point. The Rev. Robert Craig of West First Baptist Church will officiate.

Mrs. Allen, 84, of White City, died Friday (Nov. 10, 2000) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 110 E. Main St., Ashland, OR 97520, and Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice, 2825 Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born July 17, 1916, in Mule Creek, N.M., a daughter of Leonard and Henrietta Smith. She moved to Eagle Point in 1944 and retired in White City.

On Feb. 24, 1936, in Florence, Ariz., she married Porter W. Allen, who died in 1985.

Mrs. Allen owned several farms in the Eagle Point area until 1989, when she retired.

She was active with Meals on Wheels and attended Trinity Baptist Church in Central Point.

Survivors include a foster daughter, Lenita "Bunny" Swanson, Estacada, and a brother, Charley Smith, Central Point. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Neil, Jack and Burt, and three sisters, Myrtle, Aurel and Annie.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
