Herbert C. Froeschle

Herbert C. Froeschle, 91, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 2000) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Care of complications arising from Alzheimer’s. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc. 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611.

He was born Dec. 31, 1908, in Jamestown, Mo. The family later moved to Granite City, Ill. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, graduating with honors from the University of Illinois in 1934.. He was a member of Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma, and was the university handball champion. He married Marjorie Kottmeier, who survives.

Mr. Froeschle moved to Chicago in 1934 and began his accounting career with Pure Oil Company. He was later named assistant manager of the income tax department, manager of the tax department, and co-jointly assistant secretary and assistant treasurer of the company.

The Froeschles lived in Wilmette, Ill., from 1939 to 1967, where Mr. Froeschle served as financial secretary of the Trinity Church of the North Shore and sang in the church choir. When Pure Oil merged with the California-based company now known as Unocal, he and his wife moved to Pasadena where he was treasurer of Unocal and manager of the tax department. They retired to Laguna Hills, Calif., where he was active in the United Methodist Church of Laguna Hills and served as financial secretary. They moved to Medford in 1987.

Mr. Froeschle was a 13-year resident of Rogue Valley Manor, where he was active on the Residents’ Council and participated in many Manor activities, including the Employee’s Christmas Fund, bid sales, the bowling team and Olympic competitions. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Medford.

An avid sports fan and spectator, he enjoyed fencing, handball, tennis and bowling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Diane Schroeder, Deerfield, Ill.; a son, Tom, Southborough, Mass.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dawn M. Wiegand

Dawn M. Wiegand, 52, of Winchester, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. The memorial service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Way of Jackson County, P.O. Box 4664, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Wenatchee, Wash., a daughter of Donald and Lucille Keniston. She graduated from McNary High School in Salem, and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oregon State University in Corvallis. She also received senior professional human resources certification. She lived in the Rogue Valley on and off, most recently from 1987 to 2000.

Ms. Wiegand was the director of human resources at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

She was a member of the Rotary Club of Central Point and served on the board of directors. She also served on the board of Crisis Intervention Services in Medford. She was involved with the Medford Jazz Jubilee from its inception, serving as vice president for 10 years, chaired the personnel committee for Jackson County United Way, and was a past member of the Jackson County Fair Board.

Ms. Wiegand enjoyed conservation, women’s rights, her dog, Bergie, and fishing.

Survivors include her companion, Hank Surles, Winchester; her mother, Lucille Keniston, Salem; two brothers, Donald Keniston Jr., Salem, and Keith Donaldson, Portland; and a sister, Judith Keniston, Spokane, Wash. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Keniston.

Arrangements: Autumn Cremation Service, Portland.

Edgar Blodgett

The funeral for Edgar James Blodgett will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Klamath Memorial Park Chapel in Klamath Falls. Interment will be in Klamath Memorial Park.

Mr. Blodgett, 81, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of Oregon, 3330 N.W. Yeon, Portland, OR 97210.

He was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Honolulu, a son of James and Josephine Blodgett. On Feb. 2, 2000, in Medford, he married Vera Schweizer, who survives.

Mr. Blodgett lived in Klamath Falls from 1957 to 1997, where he owned and operated a ranch, and was in the real estate business. He moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Bryan, Medford, Keith, Grants Pass, and Ron, Klamath Falls; three sisters, Dorothy Trevans and Elle Smith, both Sunnyvale, Calif., and Millie Frietas, Reno, Nev.; a brother, Stan, San Jose, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; and a brother, Arthur.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Klamath Memorial Park Chapel, Klamath Falls.

Ruby Christine Marshall

The funeral for Ruby Christine Marshall will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Richard Kirk, former associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Medford, will officiate.

Mrs. Marshall, 91, of Medford, died Dec. 6, 2000, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, 125 W. Jackson St., Medford, OR 97501, or the Salvation Army, 922 N. Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born June 19, 1909, in Ada, Okla., the daughter of Richard and Sara (White) Harrison. On June 16, 1928, in Colorado Springs, Colo., she married Kenneth L. Marshall, who died in 1998.

Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from Nebraska.

She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting bedspreads and table cloths, reading, and church activities, especially singing in the church choir and playing the organ and piano.

Survivors include a daughter, Norma Jean Schnider, Grove, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirly Ruffner and Annette Brumley.

Betsy L. Stockton

Betsy L. Stockton, 75, of Medford, died Friday (Dec. 8, 2000) at Rogue Valley Manor. No local service is planned.

She was born July 12, 1925, in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of Julius and Norma (Elmendorf) Lovington. She graduated from Boston University in Massachusetts. On March 26, 1996, in Medford, she married Lloyd Stockton.

Mrs. Stockton was a home economist for the state of Maryland in the 4-H Extension Service. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995 from Monterey, Calif.

She was a member of St. Andrew Anglican Church in Jacksonville, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Guild in Monterey, Calif.

Mrs. Stockton enjoyed travel and volunteer work.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Stockton, Medford. She was preceded in death by a brother in 1996.

Eddie B. Tozer

The memorial service for Eddie B. Tozer will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. The Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 416, will officiate.

Mr. Tozer, 80, of Rogue River, died Nov. 13, at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Yakima, Wash. In 1940, in Santa Rosa, Calif., he married Virginia Bales. They later divorced. She died in 1996. On July 13, 1969, in Carson City, Nev., he married Ada Minne, who died in 1995.

Mr. Tozer was a truck driver for more than 50 years. He moved to Grants Pass from Puyallup, Wash., in 1983, and to Rogue River in 1996.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Tozer was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles and the Elks.

His collection of golf balls numbered more than 7, 000, all different.

Survivors include his companion, Doris Claus, Rogue River; three sons, Cary, Napa, Calif., Ira Pierce II, Brookings, and Eddie B. Jr., Auburn, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mardel Hugo, Portland; a stepson, Darrell Minne, Puyallup, Wash.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley, Grants Pass.

Malinda F. Payne

The funeral for Malinda F. Payne will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Wood of Redwood Christian Church in Grants Pass will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.

Mrs. Payne, 96, formerly of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Dec. 12, 2000) in Eugene.

She was born May 30, 1904, in Grants Pass, a daughter of A.C. and Nellie Ford. In 1927, in Washington, she married Charles S. Payne Sr., who died in 1971.

Mrs. Payne was a seamstress and bookkeeper.

During World War II, she worked in the Oregon shipyards.

Mrs. Payne was a member of the Friendly Street Church of God in Eugene.

She enjoyed making quilts, gardening and wildflowers.

Survivors include three sons, William, Medford, Charles Jr., Modesto, Calif., and Sydney, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Myrtle Neeley and Bertha Lowd, both Grants Pass; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
