Jean Elaine Broyles
The memorial service for Jean Elaine Broyles will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. The Rev. Colleen Graham of Christ Unity Church in Medford will officiate. Entombment was in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Broyles, 75, of Medford, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Jean Gleason on Dec. 10, 1925, in Omaha, Neb. She attended the University of Washington. On Aug. 23, 1954, in Tacoma, Wash., she married James N. Broyles, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Broyles was a secretary in the insurance industry in Seattle. She lived in the Rogue Valley for the past 26 years.
She was active in drama and the theater in Seattle.
Mrs. Broyles was a member of Christ Unity Church.
She enjoyed traveling worldwide, sports and bike riding.

Frank B. Silva
The memorial service for Frank B. Silva will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Faith Bible Church in Medford. Pastor William Kezer will officiate.
Mr. Silva, 87, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born March 2, 1913, in Montague, Calif., the son of Frank and Mary Silva. On May 19, 1947, in Grants Pass, he married Mildred E. Silva, who died in 1999. He lived in Eagle Point for 80 years.
Mr. Silva worked as a saw filer for Timber Products in Medford for 17 years, as a dairy rancher in Eagle Point for more than 20 years, and spent 12 years working for Jack James Construction.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and attended Reese Creek Church in Eagle Point.
Mr. Silva enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three daughters, Irene Kruggel, Medford, Barbara Christopherson, Sacramento, Calif., and Betty Prather, Seattle; a stepson, William Gilman, Eagle Point; a stepdaughter, Susan Muir, Concord, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Avis Kezer and Florence Gross.

Margaret Day Walker
A memorial service for Margaret Day Walker is planned for 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at the First Presbyterian Church, Medford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff and the Rev. John Braund will officiate.
Mrs. Walker, 86, of Medford, died Dec. 24, 2000, in Portland.

Mrs. Walker was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Kiev, Ukraine, a daughter of Ruth and George Day. On June 20, 1942, in Pasadena, Calif., she married Charles Kenney Walker, who survives. The family had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1988.
Mrs. Walker was a 1936 graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles. In 1996, she earned a master’s degree from California State College, Los Angeles. She was a kindergarten teacher in San Gabriel, Calif., retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Alpha Theta, the American Association of University Women and a deacon and volunteer at her church. She enjoyed photography, stained glass work, writing and travel.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Carroll Walker Hirsch of Sebastopol, Calif., Ruth Walker Rose of Lexington, Mass., Katherine Walker Parker of Portland and Nancy Walker of North Haven, Conn.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Carroll Day Locke in 1998.

Donald W. Coltrane
The funeral service for Donald Wayne Coltrane will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2001) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Medford.
Mr. Coltrane, 82, died Saturday (Dec. 30, 2000) of heart failure at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 22, 1918 in Peatz, Colo., a son of Lloyd and Pearl Coltrane. On Jan. 12, 1944, in Medford, he married Pauline M. Varner, who died in 1999.
The couple lived in Roseburg for five years before moving to Medford, where they lived for 24 years. After retiring to Brookings in 1980, Mr. Coltrane returned to Medford after his wife’s death last year.
Mr. Coltrane joined the U.S. Army in January of 1941, and was discharged as a sergeant in December 1945. While in the Army, he was a ward master of a hospital, specializing in caring for paralyzed soldiers.
Mr. Coltrane worked at Pacific Northwest Bell for 35 years, and was foreman of a plow train that buried the original coaxial cable from California to Eugene. When he retired, he was a safety training supervisor.
Mr. Coltrane was also a member of the LDS church and served as a ward clerk and a scout master.
During his retirement, Mr. Coltrane enjoyed camping, fishing, travel and building model airplanes with his son-in-law.
Survivors include two daughters, Beckie Rabbe, Medford, and Jill Sanders, Meridian, ID.; a son, Donald L., Houston; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Coltrane, and a sister, Verleen Stockhen.

Homer Baird Kidwell
Homer Baird Kidwell, 89, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Maricopa, Calif. On Jan. 4, 1940, in Honolulu, he married Margaret Greenwell, who survives.
Mr. Kidwell was a corporate attorney. He began his career in Los Angeles in 1935 with Omelveney and Meyers. In 1937, he moved to Honolulu and joined the firm of Anderson, Wrenn and Jenks. After his retirement, he served on the bench of the Supreme Court of Hawaii from 1975 to 1979. He then served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii Law School.
He was a member of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Kidwell was an avid reader and outdoorsman. He enjoyed chamber music and hiking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Alan, Honolulu; a daughter, Frances Findley, Tasmania, Australia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Freada H. Peterson
Freada H. Peterson, 79, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 28, 2000) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings, Mont.
She was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. On May 3, 1939, in Hardin, Mont., she married Melvin Carl Peterson, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker. She had recently moved to the Rogue Valley from Whitefish, Mont.
She enjoyed hand-quilting, gardening, camping and fishing.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Gorman, Medford; two brothers, Harry and George Hankel, both Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Buck, in 1998; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Betty J. Bauman
The memorial service for Betty J. Bauman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chaplain John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.
Mrs. Bauman, 72, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 2000) at her home.

She was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Medford, a daughter of William and Christina (Lewis) Catey. She graduated from Medford Senior High School. On Nov. 2, 1951, in Medford, she married Robert H. Bauman, who survives.
Mrs. Bauman was the receptionist for Goodwill Industries.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, John, Medford, and William Vancouver, Wash; a daughter, Virginia Malone, San Diego; a brother, Bob Verbick, Medford; a sister, Patricia Brinson, Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
