Carol Sylvia Santamaria
The graveside service for Carol Sylvia Santamaria will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Liam Cary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate.
Mrs. Santamaria, 47, of Medford, died Monday, (Jan. 1, 2001) at her home.
She was born Carol Sylvia Williams on Dec. 23, 1953, in Escondido, Calif., a daughter of Oscar and Lois Williams. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 from Crescent City, Calif.
In March 1997, in Reno, she married Edward Santamaria, who survives.
Mrs. Santamaria was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She enjoyed sewing and crafts.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Amber Bigham, Medford, and Angela Ziegler, Grants Pass; her mother, Lois Williams; three brothers, Curt and Walt, both of Albany, and Danny, Anchorage; and one sister, Lorena Hammons, Crescent City, Calif.

Edward William Bowman
The memorial service for Edward William Bowman will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at his home. Friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Bowman, 83, of Jacksonville, died Sunday (Dec. 31, 2000) at Three Fountains, Medford.
Survivors include his wife, four sons, one daughter, a brother; a sister and eight grandchildren.

Roberta Elma Emerson
Roberta Elma Emerson, 89, of Ashland, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) at the Medford Rehabilitation Center in Medford. No service is planned.

Mrs. Emerson was born Roberta Elma Kirtley on April 8, 1911, in Roseburg, a daughter of George C. Yule and Maude Kirtley. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1942 from Myrtle Creek. She moved to Ashland eight years ago.
She was a bookkeeper in California and Oregon. She retired in 1968 from a job in food service.
Survivors include two daughters, Nona Hoadley, Ashland, and Dorine DeVall, New Paris, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands.

Elmer Fred Hanks
Elmer Fred Hanks, 78, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) at his home. A private family service was held. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1922, in Cortez, Colo. On Oct. 24, 1940, in Castle Rock, Colo. h married Vera Catherine McCarty, who preceded him in death in 1982. He moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from El Segundo, Calif.
Mr. Hanks served in the US Navy during World War II.
He worked for the Postal Service in Englewood, Calif., retiring as superintendent.
Mr. Hanks was a member of the American Postal Workers Union.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include; a son, Russell L., Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Joyce R. Carbonati, Placentia, Calif., and Sharon K. Dickinson, Simi Valley, Calif.; a brother, Howard L. Hanks, Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mable Marie Smith
The graveside service for Mable Marie Smith will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2001) at her home.

She was born on June 18, 1918, in Aberdeen, Wash., a daughter of John and Marie Summerville. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1960 from Idaho.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She was a member of the LDS Church.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed horses, embroidery work, card games and sharing time with family.
Survivors include a daughter, June Kranenburg, Medford; a son, Leroy A., Grants Pass; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.
Mary Beth Horton
A celebration of life gathering for Mary Beth (Cuozzo) Horton will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the family home.
Mrs. Horton, 75, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) at her home.
She was born on March 18, 1925, in Eugene. She moved to the Rogue Valley 45 years ago from Klamath Falls.
Mrs. Horton worked for the VA Domiciliary.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, camping and family gatherings.
Survivors include two daughters, Beth Cuozzo and Tina Honeycutt, both of Medford; four sons, Rikki Cuozzo, Medford, Alfred, Eagle Point, Joseph, Salem, and Mario, Chererville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Ernest E. VonWytrzen
The memorial service for Ernest E. VonWytrzen will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at First Presbyterian Church, Medford. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. VonWyrtzen, 85, of Medford died Wednesday (Jan. 3, 2001) at his home.

He was born Dec. 24, 1915, in New York City.
On March 27, 1977, in New York, he married Mamie Ostrowsa, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from New York.
Mr. VonWyrtzen was an insurance executive, retiring in 1980 from Commercial Union Insurance Co.
He volunteered for more than 18 years at the Medford Library. He also volunteered at the Rogue Art Gallery, as well as for individuals.
The VonWyrtzens traveled widely, including visiting New York City annually. Especially interested in the arts and music, they attended opera in the major cities of Europe and the United States. He had heard about 107 operas.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was an ordained deacon.
