Maria DeJesus Coggins

The funeral service for Maria DeJesus Coggins will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Conger Morris Chapel in Medford.

Mrs. Coggins, 79, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 231 S.E. 12th Ave., Portland, OR 97214.

She was born Maria DeJesus Calvillo on Aug. 1, 1921, in Michoacan, Mexico, the daughter of Jesus and Virginia Calvillo. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from California. In 1982, in Medford, she married Rex M. Coggins, who survives.

Mrs. Coggins was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Jose Rivera, Medford; four daughters, Sara Chavez and Maria L. Salazar, both Medford, Rosa Avalos, Sanger, Calif., and Elidia Valadez, Pomona, Calif.; a stepson, Stanley Kramer, Eugene; a stepdaughter, Collette Coggins, Seattle; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford.

Elizabeth Irma Schmidt

The memorial service for Elizabeth Irma Schmidt will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Pastor David Keil will officiate. Interment will be in Valhalla Cemetery in North Hollywood, Calif.

Mrs. Schmidt, 98, of Central Point, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001), at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Fund, 745 N. 10th St., Central Point, OR 97502, or the Medford Gospel Mission, 534 N. Bartlett, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dec. 8, 1902, in Philadelphia, a daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Ripka. On July 7, 1925, in Salt Lake City, she married August H. Schmidt, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Schmidt was a homemaker.

She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed gardening and Bible study.

Survivors include a son, David, Medford; a brother, Henry "Bill" Ripka, Bellflower, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Carl; two brothers, Charles and Paul Ripka; and a sister, Katherine.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Charles R. Allen

Charles R. Allen, 90, of White City, died Friday (Jan. 5, 2001) at Hearthstone. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary, c/o Disabled American Veterans, 8495 Crater Lake Highway, White City, OR 97503.

He was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Alameda, Calif., a son of Peter and Margot Allen.

Mr. Allen was a lumber exporter for J.J. Moore Co., San Francisco, and Georgia Pacific Lumber, Portland. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from California.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Allen was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the International Union of Security Officers.

He enjoyed reading, writing and music.

Survivors include two daughters, Patti Ann Allen, Forest Grove, and Judy Anne Specht, San Jose, Calif.; and a brother Milton Allen, San Lorenzo, Calif. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Walter; and a sister, Margaret Edison.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

David H. Ragsdale

The memorial service for David H. Ragsdale will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cave Junction.

Mr. Ragsdale, 51, of Cave Junction, died Jan. 4, 2001, at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus, Grants Pass.

He was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Kingman, Ariz. He grew up in Salinas, Calif., and graduated from Salinas High School. On March 19, 1986, in San Jose, Calif., he married Cheri Black, who survives. They moved to Cave Junction from San Jose, Calif., in 1991.

Mr. Ragsdale worked in the iron industry and also as a truck driver.

He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his father, Delbert, Cave Junction.

June Arlene Peleaux

The funeral for June Arlene Peleaux will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Peleaux, 84, of Trail, died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) in Northwood, N.D.

She was born June McMurray on June 23, 1916, in Austin, Minn. On April 3, 1943, in Newport News, Va., she married Wilbur Francis Peleaux, who died in 1995.

Mrs. Peleaux was a dental assistant in Virginia during World War II. She then moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., where she was a dental assistant for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

She did community service volunteer work and was an active member of Shady Point Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Peleaux enjoyed gardening, baking and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Pfeifle, Northwood, N.D.; a brother, Earl McMurray, Stockton, Calif.; two sisters, Ethel Schultz, Bakersfield, Calif., and Patricia Larsen, Fairfield, Calif.; and three grandsons.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Stephen Edward Hall

The memorial service for Stephen Edward Hall will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

Mr. Hall, 60, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, 405 E. California St., Jacksonville, OR 97530.

He was born May 4, 1940, in Medford, a son of Melvin and Dorothy Hall. He attended Jacksonville schools. He returned to the Rogue Valley from Salem in 1991.

Mr. Hall was a landscaper with Alternative Services, retiring in 1996.

He enjoyed watching television, and going to McDonald’s and the mall.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jo Hall, Jacksonville, and Judy Huck, Eugene; and a brother, Bill, Medford.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

George Buchanan

George Buchanan, 83, of Phoenix, formerly of Lake Oswego, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) in Eagle Point. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sarah Corson Childcare Center, First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Toronto. On Feb. 17, 1979, in Medford, he married Vera Wilson, who survives.

Mr. Buchanan was executive vice president at U.S. Bank in Portland, retiring in 1974. In the Rogue Valley, he was an associate with Realestators from 1979-1997.

He was a member of the Multnomah Club in Portland, and the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Robert; three daughters, Mary Beth Buchanan, Kathlyn Steele, and Chris Magel; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willena Fox; two brothers and a sister.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
