Vernon "Elmer" Allen

The funeral for Vernon "Elmer" Allen will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mr. Allen, 82, of Ashland, died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at his home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Armada, Ark. On June 20, 1946, in Van Buren, Ark., He married the former Bernice Keck, who died in 1989.

They came to Ashland in 1948 after living in Susanville, Calif. for two years.

Mr. Allen was an independent timber faller until his retirement in 1980. He personally designed, hand-excavated, and constructed the family home.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, reading, and researching lost mines and treasures.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna M. Allen, Ashland, and Verna L. Hayes, Redding, Calif.; a son, Larry E., Kelseyville, Calif.; two brothers, Fines Allen, Cedarville, Ark. and Glen Allen, Grants Pass; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and David; and a sister, Hazel Lucas.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home.

Velma L. Colwell

The funeral for Velma L. Colwell will be at noon Monday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Colwell, 83, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 11, 2001) at her home.

She was born March 16, 1917, in Carnegie, Okla., the daughter of George and Addie May Newlun. On April 5, 1941, in Medford, she married Lowell Colwell, who died in 1993. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Colwell was a homemaker.

She enjoyed crocheting and caring for her family.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell Colwell Jr., Medford, and Michael Newlun, Eagle Point; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Carl M. Wormington

Carl M. Wormington, 74, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gold Hill Grange Candlelighters, 2471 Saylor St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., a son of Herbert and Cleola Mae Wormington. On March 24, 1958, in Carson City, Nev., he married Dixie Lee Ficus, who survives.

Mr. Wormington worked for Aerojet General in Sacramento, Calif., retiring in 1986. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Shingle Springs, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Wormington was a member of the Gold Hill Grange, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Carl Edward, Placerville, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Karen DeClusin, McCloud, Calif.; two brothers, Melvin, Sacramento, Calif., and Francis, Rancho Cordova, Calif.; two sisters, Joann Cole, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Marge Gray, Moscow, Idaho; two step-granddaughters; and four step-great-granddaughters.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Clarence ‘Ed’ Hiser

Clarence "Ed" Hiser, 74, of Sams Valley, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Watts, Calif., a son of William and Lillian Hiser. He moved to Williams in 1976 from Calif., and lived there until 1981.

Mr. Hiser had a distinguished military career serving in the U.S. Army and with the U.S. Navy Seabees for 27 years. He then worked for the Veterans Administration as a federal police officer at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary, retiring after 10 years.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Hiser enjoyed customizing cars, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include four sons, Randy, Applegate, Rory, Grants Pass, Eric, Central Point, and William, Williams; two daughters, Kimberly Hiser, Grants Pass, and Georgina Freeborn, Burns; two brothers, William, Anaheim, Calif., and Richard, Meiners Oaks, Calif.; a sister, Nancy Lafferty, Ventura, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Alexander Glen Punches

The funeral for Alexander Glen Punches will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. Bishop Douglas Williams of the Ashland First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Private interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Alexander, infant son of Sean and Sharon (Winner) Punches of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandparents, Glen and Georgia Winner, Phoenix, and Al and Jessie Punches, Ashland; and his great-grandparents Royce and Patsy Winner, Ashland, and Marvin and Harriet Wray, Ashland.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Katherine Mauldin

Katherine Mauldin, 55, of Grants Pass, died Jan. 5, 2001, at her home. The private graveside service will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Merlin.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Vallejo, Calif., a daughter of Robert and Alice Bethel. On Dec. 31, 1964, in Oroville, Calif., she married James Mauldin, who preceded her in death. They moved to Grants Pass in 1965.

Mrs. Mauldin was a member of The Pinwheels at the Caveman Bowl and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

She attended Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Medford.

Mrs. Mauldin was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. She enjoyed bowling and puzzles.

Survivors include three sons, John, Medford, Nick, Grants Pass, and Mike, Skagway, Alaska; her mother, Alice Bethel, Pacific Grove, Calif.; a sister, Ann Bethel, Oakland, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Marian Agnes Crank

The memorial service for Marian Agnes Crank will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Crank, 92, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity, or to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Aurora, Ill., a daughter of Warren and Myrtle Patterson. She moved to Central Point from Klamath Falls in 1925. She graduated from Central Point High School in 1927, and attended Medford Business College. In 1950, she married Wallace Crank, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Crank was a bookkeeper for a local Chevrolet garage and later worked as a bookkeeper for a local packing and cold storage company for 20 years. In Shady Cove, she and her husband ran the Shady Cove Market, which was much more than a market, for 15 years.

She was a longtime member of the Central Point Grange.

Mrs. Crank enjoyed gardening, traveling and writing.

Survivors include a brother, Donald Patterson, Central Point.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
