Rex L. Fowler
The graveside service for Rex L. Fowler will be at 1 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park Garden of Honor, Medford.
Mr. Fowler, 77, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001) at Mercy Hospital in Redding, Calif.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Wilson, Okla.
Mr. Fowler was a member of the Medford Moose Lodge.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Randy L., and Rex L., both Redding, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
Marjorie H. Gates
The funeral for Marjorie H. Gates will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. A reception will follow in the Conger-Morris reception room. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Gates, 87, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) in Medford.

She was born Marjorie Helen Paulsen on Sept. 18, 1913, in Egeland, N.D. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946 from Coronado, Calif. On Feb. 23, 1946, in Medford, she married Martin J. Gates, who survives.
Mrs. Gates taught elementary school for the children of Navy officers in Hawaii and Coronado, Calif.
She enjoyed flower arranging, cooking and sewing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Rita Hyatt, Medford; a brother, Don Paulsen, Medford; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Loy and Ethlen Johnson.

Mattie D. Haworth
The funeral for Mattie D. Haworth will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trail Christian Fellowship. Pastor Christopher White will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Haworth, 64, of White City, died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Mattie Patterson on March 29, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. On Sept. 12, 1952, in Bakersfield, Calif., she married John A. Haworth, who died in 1998. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from California.
Mrs. Haworth was an inspector with Hughes Aircraft in California, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Trail Christian Fellowship.
Mrs. Haworth enjoyed crafts, fishing and camping.
Survivors include two sons, John A., Medford, and Randall, White City; a daughter, Sharon Haworth, Gold Hill; two sisters, Nelline Kellar, Bakersfield, Calif., and Margie Gifford, Portland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
Frances Faber Mitchell
Frances Faber Mitchell, 84, of Central Point, died Friday (Jan. 12, 2001) at her home. The memorial service will be announced in July.
She was born Dec. 18, 1916, at the family home in Central Point, a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Faber. She attended Central Point schools and graduated from Willamette University in Salem. In 1946, in San Francisco, she married John Mitchell, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mitchell was a school teacher in the San Francisco Bay area. She retired in 1973, and returned to the Rogue Valley from California.
She was a former member of the Rogue Valley Country Club.
Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.
Survivors include a son, Donald "Mitch, " Maui, Hawaii; and a sister, Leola Faber, Central Point.

L. Mynila Mahan Namitz
The graveside service for L. Mynila Mahan Namitz will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Namitz, 89, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) in Eagle Point.
She was born L. Mynila Mahan on Dec. 20, 1911 in Blackwell, Texas. The family moved to Arizona from Texas in 1918. On Nov. 23, 1929, in Prescott, Ariz., she married Marvil Wiley, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1943 from Arizona. On Feb. 11, 1955, in Reno, Nev., she married V.J. Namitz, who died in 1984.
Mrs. Namitz was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medford.
Mrs. Namitz enjoyed hunting, gardening, quilting and her family.
Survivors include a son, Don Wiley, Medford; two daughters, Lois G. Rettmann, Central Point, and Mary Louise Angel, Eagle Point; a foster son, Preston Hooper; a brother, Gordon Mahan, Williams, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lavitus Wimmer and Myrtis St. John; three brothers, Terrell, Elzie and Tip Merwin Mahan; and one grandson.

James Lee Smith
The graveside service for James Lee Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Associate Pastor Bob Roth of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Mr. Smith, 69, of Central Point, died Thursday (Jan. 11, 2001) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born March 20, 1931, in Dillard, Okla., a son of James and Estelle (Haggard) Smith. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Oklahoma and graduated from Medford Senior High School.
Mr. Smith worked for a short time in the fruit packing houses and timber mills before becoming disabled.
He attended the Medford Friends Church while growing up.
Mr. Smith enjoyed travel, especially driving.
Survivors include two brothers, Gary V., Boise, Idaho, and Larry D., Fullerton, Calif.; a sister, Wanda Clarkson, Central Point. A brother, Doyle, preceded him in death.
Friends may pay their respects at 10 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel, Medford.
Laura G. Baker
Laura G. Baker, 84, of Ashland, died Sunday (Jan. 14, 2001) at her daughter’s home in Ashland. The memorial service will be held later in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

She was born March 30, 1916, in Helena, Ark., a daughter of Charles and Jessie (Harkness) Curl. In 1947, in Little Rock, Ark., she married Thomas Hart Baker, who died in 1982.
Mrs. Baker came to Ashland in November of 2000 to be with her daughter. She had lived in Laguna Niguel, Calif., where she was a member of the Presbyterian Church and did volunteer work for the Braille Institute.
She enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurie Warren, Ashland; two sons, Thomas Hart Jr., Chappaqua, N.Y., and Jim, Moorpark, Calif.; two brothers, Robert S. Curl, Amarillo, Texas, and Charles Curl, Saint Simons Island, Ga.; a sister, Jess Wilson, Little Rock, Ark.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles.
