Joseph Everett Jones
Joseph Everett Jones, 85, of Ashland, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at his home. The memorial service will be held later. Interment was at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Oquawka, Ill. On June 24, 1954, in Galesburg, Ill., he married Lola Wilda Shepard, who survives.
Mr. Jones was a electrician for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Illinois. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 from Springfield, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Jones was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 533 in Chicago.
He enjoyed broom making, pottery and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Ruth Painter, Ashland, and Barbara Olic-Hamilton, Boise, Idaho; two sons, Ron, Elgin, Ill., and Richard, Springfield, Ill.; a brother, Donald, in Arizona; and six grandchildren.

Chestine Rose
Chestine Rose, 80, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at her home. Private cremation was at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
She was born April 1, 1920, in Stoneham, Mass., a daughter of Harold and Viola Grover. She moved to Grants Pass in 1962 from Buena Park, Calif. Her husband, Robert Rose, died in 1995.
Mrs. Rose was an avid gardener and enjoyed dogs.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Linda Rose, Medford, and Theresa Bardsley, Seattle; a sister, Lee Brown, Lincoln, Mass.; two brothers, Fred Grover, Natick, Mass., and George Grover, Wayne, Pa.; and one granddaughter.

Walter ‘Tex’ Ramsey
The graveside service for Walter "Tex" Ramsey will be at 11 a.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Ramsey, 99, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at his home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1901, in Malvern, Ark., the son of Jackson and Julia Ramsey. In Kilgore, Texas, he married Jean, who survives. They moved to Southern Oregon from California in 1947.
Mr. Ramsey was a member of the Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma for many years.
He enjoyed people, hunting and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, John, Ralph and Robert, all in Texas; a daughter, Merilee Rappalo, in Texas; and several grandchildren.

Lloyd E. Stinton
The funeral for Lloyd E. Stinton will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. Pastors Kevin Gowland and Craig Rench will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Stinton, 84, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) in Medford.
He was born May 24, 1916, in Plymouth County, Iowa. On Feb. 23, 1939, in Akron, Iowa, he married Sareva L. Peck, who died in November 2000.
Mr. Stinton was a welder in Michigan and Illinois during World War II. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 from Ashland, Neb. Locally, he was a welder for Plumley Logging for 18 years. He and his wife also worked as custodians for the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.
Mr. Stinton enjoyed reading.
Survivors include five sons, Linden and Gary, both Medford, Robin, Eagle Point, Lenton, Omaha, Neb., and Larry, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Colleen Josephson, Medford; a sister, Marjorie Rozell, LeMars, Iowa; a brother, Cletus, Sioux City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford.
Ruby Bernice Garrett
Ruby Bernice Garrett, 77, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Medford, a daughter of Louis and Mary Caulkins. On Dec. 25, 1944, in Medford, she married Marvin Garrett, who survives.
Mrs. Garrett was a homemaker. She lived in Medford all her life
She was a member of Roxy Ann Grange.
Mrs. Garrett enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and sewing.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Norman, Medford; two sisters, Ileana, and Gladys Lewis, both Bend; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ruth E. Nelson Anderson
The memorial service for Ruth E. Nelson Anderson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Conger Morris Funeral Home, Medford.
Mrs. Anderson, 87, of Salem, formerly of Medford, died Jan. 11, 2001, in Salem, of congestive heart failure.
She lived in the Rogue Valley from 1920 until 1996, when she moved to Salem.

Clarence M. Ewell
The memorial service for Clarence McCatherine Ewell will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Ewell, 73, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born March 31, 1927, in Paducah, Ky., the son of David and Alline Ewell. The family moved to Indianapolis, where he attended public schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. He then attended the Arthur Jordan School of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. He married Joanna Holland, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Ewell worked at Ford Motor Company for several years.
He served in the U.S. Army in the occupation forces in Japan following World War II.
Mr. Ewell was a member of the Martin Luther King Jr./Marcus Garvey Square Cooperative in San Francisco, and was a self-taught motivational speaker for more than 40 years. Most recently, he was a volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program in Medford and with ARC (Addictions Recovery Center).
He received several volunteer awards in Jackson County.
Mr. Ewell was known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed counseling people, and trips to Reno, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas.
Survivors include a son, Neville David; and a daughter, Johnetta Ewell; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence McCatherine Ewell Jr.

Donald M. Knapp
Donald M. Knapp, 82, of Phoenix, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at Ashland Community Hospital. A private graveside service will be held at Scenic Hills Memorial Park.

He was born June 30, 1918, in Minneapolis, a son of Lou Conley and Mabel Edna (Perkins) Knapp. He attended high school in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz, Calif., college at Coeur d’Alene Junior College in Idaho, and Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, and Diesel School in the U.S. Navy.
On April 26, 1945, in N. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he married Joan Freeman, who survives. They moved to the Ashland-Phoenix area in 1980.
Mr. Knapp and his wife owned Industrial Consultants, Inc., a construction business where they designed and built houses. Mr. Knapp also designed and built several sawmills in Oregon and Northern California. He also did some gold mining in Grass Valley, Calif., and in British Columbia.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as chief petty officer on a PC614 boat in the Caribbean. He was recalled during the Korean War and was leading chief petty officer on Agana Naval Base on Guam for two years.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, horse racing and coaching his sons’ little league teams.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Richard, Ashland, and Donald Jr., Main Beach, Australia; a daughter, Susan Hollandsworth, Ashland; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
