William J. Colson III
The memorial service for William J. Colson III will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Roxy Ann Grange in Medford. The Rev. Jeanane Fornier of the Center for Spiritual Living will officiate.
Mr. Colson, 82, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at his home.
He was born March 15, 1918, in Cicero, Ill. He graduated from high school in Fort Collins, Colo., in 1936. On June 6, 1940, in Annapolis, Md., he married Una Bowman, who survives. He received a degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1940, and a doctor of philosophy degree in human resources management from Pacific Western University in 1983.
Mr. Colson worked in the aerospace industry for 18 years, with 14 major troubleshooting assignments. His last position was as manager of the Manned Flight Awareness Program for the Saturn-Apollo Mission to the Moon. He retired from the aerospace industry at age 50 and then worked as president and chief executive officer of a nonprofit organization from 1979-1981. He was also self-employed and participated in many human potential seminars and trainings. He moved to the Rogue Valley from San Pedro, Calif., in 1984.
He was a member of the Center for Spiritual Living in Medford. He served as the president of the United Church of Religious Science from 1981-1982 and was a licensed practitioner within the church.
He enjoyed world travel, sailing, hiking and reading.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Karen Lee, Kodiak, Alaska; a son, Bill, Lehi, Utah; a brother, Stan, Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Johnston, Nipomo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen N. Richings
The funeral service for Helen Nancy Richings, 82, of Central Point, will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. A graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
She died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001).
Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford.

Mary Margaret Schwieger
Mary Margaret Schwieger, 80, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 19, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born July 14, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sara Holland. On Oct. 19, 1939, in Los Angeles, she married George "Bill" Schwieger, who died in 1994. They moved to the Rogue Valley 47 years ago from Los Angeles.
Mrs. Schwieger was the manager at Western Carriage Estates in Medford. She portrayed "Nana Claus" at Christmas time in Jacksonville.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Anderson, Butte Falls; a son, Jerry Schwieger, Medford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen E. Green.

Roy Ellis Brenkman
The memorial service for Roy Ellis Brenkman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Applegate Community Church. Senior Pastor Kurt Krowel will officiate.
Mr. Brenkman, 82, of Applegate, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001) at his home. Inurnment will be at Logtown Cemetery in Jacksonville.

He was born July 3, 1918, in Detroit, the son of Clarence and Vera Brenkman. On July 25, 1941, in Glendale, Calif., he married N. Bernice Wheeler, who died in 1999. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967 from Riverside, Calif.
Mr. Brenkman was a salesman for Ramsey Realty, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he worked in sales for Capp Homes and was also self-employed as a remodeler and handyman. He was a partner in Corona Lumber in Corona, Calif.
During World War II, he served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. He was the commanding officer of a mine sweeper and saw action during the campaign in Okinawa.
Mr. Brenkman was a member of Rotary International, the Applegate Community Church and Ruch Community Church.
He enjoyed fishing, carpentry and travel.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill Brenkman, Jacksonville.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Finley
Charles Leroy "Chuck" Finley, 38, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001) at his home. For service information, contact his brother, David Myers at 245-4371.
He was born May 14, 1962, in Medford. He moved to Grants Pass eight years ago from Medford.
Mr. Finley enjoyed football games, listening to music and writing.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Myers, Shady Cove; his father, Ken Finley, Sams Valley; two brothers, David Myers, Medford, and Jim Myers, Portland; and a sister, Edith Dillon, Green Bay, Wis.

Margaret Akana Sword
The memorial service for Margaret Akana Sword will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Applegate River Ranch House, 15100 Highway 238, Applegate. Pastor Web Staunton of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.
Ms. Sword, 49, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001) at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1951, in Kingsville, Mo., the daughter of Albert Lynn and Lillian Fortney. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995 from Southern California.
Ms. Sword enjoyed sports, the outdoors, traveling and her family.
Survivors include two sons, Jesse Sword, Jacksonville, and Jason Akana, Los Angeles; a daughter, Maggie Sword, Jacksonville; her mother, Lillian Fortney, Greenwood, Ark.; and a brother, Gary Fortney, Sacramento, Calif.

Alma Skov
The memorial service for Alma Skov will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Skov, 91, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001) at her home.
She was born Alma Lopus on March 9, 1909, in Cotati, Calif. She graduated from Petaluma High School and attended beauty college in San Francisco. On Dec. 5, 1937, in Carson City, Nev., she married Herman Skov, who died in 1976. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Petaluma, Calif.
Mrs. Skov owned and operated a beauty shop in California. After moving to Oregon, she was a department manager at Newberry’s, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Bennett, Medford; two sons, Buzz, Central Point, and Leighton, Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Adelbert Lopus.

Mary Alta Walker Barbier
The memorial service for Mary Alta Walker Barbier will be at noon today at Tice Valley United Methodist Church, Walnut Creek, Calif. Interment will be in Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma, Calif.
Mrs. Barbier, 90, of Yreka, formerly of Walnut Creek, Calif., died Jan. 12, 2001, at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka.
She was born Sept. 22, 1910, near Barstow, Texas, a daughter of James Royal and Alta (Fuller) Walker. She attended high school in Chandler, Ariz., and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. On April 14, 1957, she married John Fredrick Barbier, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Barbier was an elementary school teacher in Hebbronville, Texas, West Springfield, Mass., Kenwood, Santa Cruz, and San Carlos, Calif.
She was a member of Tice Valley United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Barbier was known for her sense of humor. She enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, bird watching and drawing and painting.
Survivors include two stepsons, John F. Barbier, La Jolla, Calif., and James R. Barbier, San Diego; three brothers, Willard R. Walker, Esparto, Calif., John W. Walker, Midland, Texas, and Wallace H. Walker, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
