Florence E. Newman

The memorial service for Florence E. Newman will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Baptist Church in Medford. Pastor Bob Huntoon will officiate.

Ms. Newman, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at her home.

She was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Klamath Falls. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since infancy.

Ms. Newman was a secretary for ACCESS Loaves and Fishes.

She was very active in her church.

Ms. Newman enjoyed Tole painting, gardening and spending time with her cat.

Survivors include a son, John W., Medford; a daughter, Judith A. Newman, San Diego; and one grandson.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

William Webster Walden

The graveside service for William Webster Walden will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stearns Cemetery, Anderson Creek Road, Talent. Family members will officiate.

Mr. Walden, 50, of Talent, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Seligman, Mo.

Mr. Walden worked as a computer programmer/analyst at Mare Island Shipyard and Concord Naval Weapons Station. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972.

He was a member of the Titanic Historical Society.

Mr. Walden enjoyed computers, building model ships, tending his garden and raising cats.

He was a founding member of the California Eagles Motorcycle Club and served as president in 1987, 1992 and 1993. He had been an honorary member since 1994.

Survivors include a brother, Dale, Portland; and a sister, Sandra Walden, Phoenix.

Among his survivors is his mother, Zuella (Mershon) Walden, Talent. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett H. Walden.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

James Michael Marinak

The funeral Mass for James Michael Marinak will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The Revs. Jim Clifford and Andrew Marinak will officiate.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Hall at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church.

Mr. Marinak, 57, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) in an auto accident in Butte Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1172, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 22, 1943, in Steelton, Pa., a son of Andrew and Josephine Marinak. On Dec. 29, 1976, in Colfax, Calif., he married Jeanne Mackay, who survives. They moved to Rogue Valley in 1996 from Novato, Calif.

Mr. Marinak owned and operated American Leak Detection, a specialty plumbing company.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1965.

Mr. Marinak was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point.

He enjoyed golf and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jedediah, Medford; a daughter, Jamie Marinak, Redding, Calif.; four brothers, Charles, Robert and Edward, all in Florida, and Father Andrew Marinak, Cornwall, Pa.; four sisters, Maryanne Muretic, Steelton, Pa., Fran Donato, Oberlin, Pa., Rita Salimbeni, Las Vegas, and Josephine Malovic, Fairfax Station, Va.; and one grandson.

Friends may pay their respects at 7 p.m. today in the Hall at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church.

William Carl Smith

William Carl Smith, 88, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at his home. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born July 31, 1912, in Tishomingo, Okla. He graduated from Oklahoma School for the Deaf in 1931. On Nov. 16, 1935, in Tishomingo, he married Faye Pauline Greer, who died in 1999. They moved to the Rogue Valley 63 years ago from Tishomingo.

Mr. Smith worked for Boise Cascade for 28 years, retiring in 1965.

He was a registered member of the Chickasaw Nation.

Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseshoes and bowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Morris, Central Point; a son, Dennis C.W., Eagle Point; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Harry Newton Hunsley

The graveside service for Harry Newton Hunsley will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church. Winifred Rains, formerly of Prospect, will officiate.

Mr. Hunsley, 70, of Prospect, died Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at his daughter’s home in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Sams Valley, the son of Richard and Esther (Chase) Hunsley. On Aug. 17, 1957, in Medford, he married RoseMarie Legler, who died in 2000.

Mr. Hunsley was a timber faller in Oregon, California, Washington and Alaska, retiring in 1994.

He was a volunteer and supporter of Prospect athletics, and was an official timekeeper for 17 years.

Mr. Hunsley enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching stock car races.

Survivors include four sons, Bill, Prospect, Larry, Eagle Point, Rick, Central Point, and David, Hoonah, Alaska; two daughters, Amy Spliethof, Grants Pass, and Rhonda Russell, Portland; a sister, Rebecca Martin, Talent; 19 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Jane S. Green

Jane S. Green, 82, of Phoenix, died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) in Phoenix. No service is planned.

She was born June 30, 1918, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Ms. Green worked for Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif., retiring in 1982. She lived in Phoenix for the past 15 years.

She was an active volunteer at the Medford Visitor’s Information Center.

Survivors include a son, Dennis, Saugus, Calif.; two daughters, Joan Tinder, Oxnard, Calif., and Nancy Kilcoyne, Germantown, Md.; a brother, Jack Schmidt, Torrance, Calif.; a sister, Mary C. Schmidt, Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Michael Wayne Sorsby

The funeral service for Michael Wayne Sorsby will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford. Pastor Lee Korner of the Central Point Christian Fellowship will officiate. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Sorsby, 46, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, 409 N. Front St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born July 11, 1954, in Kerrville, Texas, a son of Cecil A. and Betty J. (Harper) Sorsby. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1987 from San Antonio, Texas. He married Kim Hooey in 1987. They later divorced.

Mr. Sorsby studied karate. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include two sons, Shane and Nolan, both Grants Pass; a brother, Cecil, San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Leeza Sorsby, Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother.

Friends may pay their respects at 10 a.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Christian Church.
