Kenneth Beach
Kenneth Beach, 95, of Mount Angel, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001). No service is planned. The inurnment will be private.
He was born Dec. 4, 1905, in Corvallis. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1929 and a master’s degree in 1936, both from Oregon State University. He competed on the first rowing crew while at OSU, and the school named a women’s rowing shell in his honor. He received a doctoral degree in 1946 from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. On June 10, 1930, he married Mildred Marley, who survives. They had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Beach was a professor of industrial education at Cornell University for seven years. In 1953, he began working for Arabian American Oil Co. as a training coordinator. He traveled to and lived in Saudi Arabia for several years. He then went to work for American Standard Oil, which later became Exxon Oil. He returned to the West Coast, living in Medford, but working briefly at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. He then worked for Norris Industries, retiring in 1991. He moved to Salem and then to Mount Angel three years ago.
He is listed in the 1960-1961 "Who’s Who in America." He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Pi, Kappa Delta Pi and Epsilon Pi Tau.
Mr. Beach was a member of the Episcopal Church.
He made a model replica of an English fighting ship and was a silver jewelry craftsman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Neil J. Murphy
The funeral Mass for Neil J. Murphy will be at 3:30 p.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. A celebration of his life will follow at St. Anne Parish Center.
Mr. Murphy, 72, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at his home.

He was born June 20, 1928, in Lakeview. He began his schooling in Lakeview and continued at St. Mary’s in Medford, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1948. He graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University in 1956, and received his master’s degree in 1959. On June 6, 1959, at Sacred Heart Church in Medford, he married Nancy Conroy, who survives.
Mr. Murphy taught at St. Mary’s Grade School from 1953 to 1960. In 1960, he and his wife moved to Grants Pass, where he became a teacher for School District No. 7. He became the principal of Washington School in 1964 and was then principal of Allen Dale Elementary School from its opening until his retirement in 1990.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force, attached to the U.S. Army as a forward air control-weather observer.
Mr. Murphy was president of the local Habitat for Humanity for the past several years. He was a member of the State School Administrators and the Oregon State Teachers Union. He was also an American Association of Retired Persons safe driving instructor in the Illinois Valley.
He enjoyed painting, drawing, golfing and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Dan, Chandler, Ariz., and Tim, San Francisco; a daughter, Julianne Barclay, Hockinson, Wash.; a sister, Anna Marie Walsh, Hayward, Calif.; two brothers, John and Francis, both Medford; and six grandchildren.

Codee Rose Schaeffer
The memorial service for Codee Rose Schaeffer will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Central Point Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Sams Valley.
Codee, 13, of Sams Valley, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

She was born April 2, 1987, in Hayward, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Fremont, Calif., in 1991.
Codee was an eighth-grade student at Hanby Middle School.
Her interests included 4-H dogs, horseback riding, sports and collecting Beanie Babies.
Survivors include her parents, Norman Schaeffer of Rogue River and Nina Schaeffer of Sams Valley; two brothers, Robbie and Clay Schaeffer, Sams Valley; her grandparents, Hurff and Betty Taylor, Sams Valley, and John and Treva Schaeffer, Rogue River; and her great-grandparents, John Edwards of Visalia, Calif., and Edith Kelly of Rogue River.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel, Medford.
Aldo Corleone Nelli
The graveside service for Aldo Corleone Nelli will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose, Calif.
Mr. Nelli, 74, of Williams, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Los Gatos, Calif., and was raised and attended school in Los Gatos. On June 4, 1966, he married V. Ophelia, who survives.
Mr. Nelli served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years. He was an electrician in San Jose, Calif., retiring in 1969. He moved to Williams from Los Gatos, Calif., in 1986.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 50, Williams, and the USS San Francisco Association.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Fred, La Selva Beach, Calif., and Stephen, Centralia, Wash.; a daughter, Rebecca King, Williams; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Ann Murray, Wilderville; a sister, Annie Marsh, Oroville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rickey.

George ‘Red’ E. Moore
George "Red" Edison Moore, 69, of Gold Hill, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Medford, a son of John and Rose Moore. On Dec. 2, 1964, in Ashland, he married Ethel Bresland, who survives. He lived in Rogue Valley all his life.
Mr. Moore was a track layer for the railroad and had been a shoveler in the lumber mills.
He enjoyed making knives, cowboy boots and saddles. He also enjoyed guns.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Marie Harbison, Central Point; a son, Tracy Moore, Central Point; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orland McGowan, Clyde McGowan, and Marvin Hamilton.

Dudley Dan Solomon
Dudley Dan Solomon, 63, of Jacksonville, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at his home. No service is planned.
He was born April 16, 1937, in Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. Solomon moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy and was employed for many years with Southwest Fir Plywood Plant in White City.
Mr. Solomon enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Alta Knauber, Jacksonville; three daughters, Stacy Macy, Gold Hill, Michelle Lane, Springfield, and Becky Hayes, Butte Falls; two brothers, Larry Otis Solomon, Sacramento and Frank Solomon, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; a sister, Carol Waggoner, Phoenix; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Vita F. Howard
A graveside memorial service for Vita F. Howard will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland.
Mrs. Howard, 79, of Ashland, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at her home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Emilia (Cuifo) Fusco. On Dec. 23, 1944, in Klamath Falls, she married Berl Howard, who preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1977.
The couple moved to Ashland in 1975.
Mrs. Howard was an avid gardener.
Survivors include a son, Berl Howard Jr., Prescott, Ariz.; a sister, Josephine Pelusi, Sedona, Ariz.; and one granddaughter.
