Etna E. Ragsdale
The funeral service for Etna E. (Chamberlain) Ragsdale will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Private interment will be Trail Cemetery.
Mrs. Ragsdale, 94, of Hermiston, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) in Hermiston.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
She was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Medford, the daughter of Lyman and Jane (Ross) Chamberlain. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1938 from Hermiston. On April 11, 1941, in Reno, Nev., she married Wesley B. Ragsdale, who died in 1956.
Mrs. Ragsdale was a homemaker. She returned to Hermiston in 1996.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
Survivors include a sister, Esther Ritch, Hermiston. She was preceded in death by seven brothers.

Verdella Clare Nelsen
The funeral service for Verdella Clare Nelsen will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. The Rev. Jack Cornell of Upper Rogue Methodist Church will officiate. Committal will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
Mrs. Nelsen, 96, of White City, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at her home.
She was born Verdella Harder on May 18, 1904, in Minnesota. On Aug. 28, 1935, in Sauk Centre, Minn., she married Ronald C. Nelsen, who died in 1988. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1942 from Minnesota.
Mrs. Nelsen was a schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Minnesota for 10 years. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Upper Rogue Methodist Church and an honorary member of the TOPS Club (Take Off Pounds Sensibly).
Mrs. Nelsen enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include a son, Ron, White City; two daughters, Carole Moore, Eagle Point, and Marvena Wallace, Keizer; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers.

Florence Diane Auerbach
Florence Diane Auerbach, 83, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at Count Your Blessings Adult Foster Home, Medford. Private inurnment will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

She was born Jan. 12, 1918, in New York, a daughter of Louis and Jennie (Buckner) Fogelson. On May 30, 1939, in New York, she married Jack Solomon Auerbach, who died in 1993.
Mrs. Auerbach graduated from City College of New York in 1968, and received a master’s of library science from Hunter College in New York in 1972.
She supported various cultural and political organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Yiddish Book Center and Amnesty International. She moved to Ashland from Forest Hills, N.Y., in 1997, and to Medford in May 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen D., Jacksonville; and Lewis E., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; three sisters, Gertrude Freedman and Estelle Friedman, both Miami, and Shirley Baum, North Hampton, Mass.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Parkes, Eleanor Fogelson and Dorothy Kalom.

Clark Roy Springer
The memorial service for Clark Roy Springer will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rogue Regency Inn in Medford. A second memorial service will be held later in Homer, Alaska.
Mr. Springer, 68, of Medford, and Homer, Alaska, died Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at his Medford home where he had been under the care of hospice services since the end of December. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July, and received chemotherapy in Medford. He had homes in Homer, Alaska, Lahaina, Hawaii and Medford.

He was born May 13, 1932, in Seattle, the son of Frank and Agnes Springer. On July 15, 1954, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, he married Barbara J. Meacham, who survives.
Mr. Springer worked for Standard Oil for 21 years and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1972 to become an oil distributor. He retired from Petroleum Sales in 1985.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
At the time of his death, Mr. Springer was the senior vice president of Ducks Unlimited overseeing the volunteers of five western states and was serving on the Board of Directors of Duck Unlimited Canada. He was a benefactor member of Ducks Unlimited Incorporated, a heritage member of Ducks Unlimited Mexico, and a life member of Ducks Unlimited New Zealand and Canada. He was also a life member of the Safari Club and the National Rifle Association. In addition, he was a member of the Fairbanks Elks, Kachemak Bay Lions, Hospice of Homer and Pratt Museum of Homer.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and volunteer work.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Kathy Meyer, Medford, and Karen Lane, North Pole, Alaska; a son, Dale, Fairbanks, Alaska; five grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.

Artis V. Harrison
Artis V. Harrison, 95, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at her home. No local service is planned. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.
She was born Artis Jenkin on May 14, 1905, in Trinity Center, Calif. On June 4, 1927, in San Francisco, she married James Albert Harrison, who died in 1980. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1930.
The Harrisons were Grade A dairy farmers in Eagle Point before moving to Medford.
She was a member of the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Society.
Mrs. Harrison enjoyed gardening, fishing and rock hunting.
Survivors include three daughters, Audry Kantor and Bertha Harrison, both Medford, and Ethel Menscer, Poulsbo, Wash.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Fred Lyle Brown
The graveside service for Fred Lyle Brown will be at 1 p.m. today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. James Brown, a family member, will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the family home.
Mr. Brown, 72, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at his home.

He was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Richfield, Idaho. The family moved to Grants Pass in 1945 from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. On Sept. 24, 1950, in Reno, Nev., he married Ann Tavis, who survives.
Mr. Brown worked for Pacific Power and Light for 33 years, retiring as construction inspector.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1952.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Grants Pass Golf Club.
He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing, camping and bowling with family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Timothy Fred, Grants Pass; a daughter, Tamara Ann Spann, Rock Springs, Wyo.; a brother, Myron, Grants Pass; a sister, Norma Kilburn, Tunas, Mo.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph E. Brown and Elwood Thompson.

Morris C. Risinger
Morris C. Risinger, 84, of Morgan Hill, Calif., formerly of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, Calif. The graveside service was held Monday at the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister, Calif. The Rev. Ardyss Golden of the United Methodist Church in Hollister, Calif., officiated.

He was born in Terry Prairie, Mont. He and his wife, Fay, lived in Eagle Point for 15 years.
Mr. Risinger worked in lumber mills. He moved to Morgan Hill from Eagle Point in 1999.
Survivors include a son, Richard, Gilroy, Calif.; four daughters, Jodie Large, in Oregon, Nancy Casto, Auburn, Calif., Dixie Booher, San Juan Bautista, Calif., and Linda Gonzalez, Gilroy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fay, in 1999; and a son, Max.
